SGPP Program Fees

School of Government and Public Policy

Program Fees

Please note that Criminal Justice Studies, Political Science

and Public Management and Policy majors in junior and

senior standing, 60 Units, in SGPP a $450 program fee

will be assessed each fall and spring semester until grad-

uation. SGPP Law majors in junior and senior standing

are charged a $900 program fee each fall and spring se-

mester until graduation.

Program fees are used for programs that provide student

resources and experiences, including but not limited to:

academic advising, scholarships, professional skill devel-

opment, expanded internship opportunities, career net-

working, speaker series, and seminars. All program fee

activities are reviewed and approved by our Student

Governance Board.

Dear Juniors and Seniors,

We have partnered with Career Services to give

our junior and senior majors access to Wildcat Joblink. Wildcat JobLink is a

state-of-the-art career management tool, offering UA students access to

jobs, internships, and a range of other services including campus interview-

ing and resume referrals.

To access JobLink, please visit the Career Services website at https://

www.career.arizona.edu/joblink. All you need is your NETID and password

to login and take advantage of these great services.

Why is SGPP only funding juniors and seniors to have access to JobLink?

The funding comes from SGPP Program Fees, which only our junior and sen-

ior majors pay. If you are a freshman or sophomore, you are welcome to

register and pay the annual $5 fee out of pocket. Visit https://

www.career.arizona.edu/joblink to register.

I will be a junior at the end of the current semester. When can I have ac-

cess?

SGPP will be requesting access for any students who have reached 60+ cred-

its each semester after the census date (the 21st day of the semester). So, if

you will have 60+ completed credits at the end of this semester, you will be

granted access next semester after the census date.

Pretrial Services UNPAID Internships Spring 2016

These internships are for the Spring 2016 semester covering Janu-ary through May 2016. If a previous application was submitted (for the Fall 2015 semester or paid internships) students must submit a new application for the new semester. The students may upload or use the same letter(s) of recommendation(s) as when applying for the Fall 2015 semester. Students are invited to supplement their academic curriculum by in-terning in the Pima County Superior Court’s Pretrial Services Re-lease Assessment Division located at the Pima County Adult Deten-tion Center OR in the Pretrial Release Services Division located at 150 W. Congress. The general focus of the internship is to provide students with the opportunity to work in a structured criminal justice setting and de-velop professional-caliber skills related to conducting interviews, as-sessing information and writing reports. Interns interview defend-ants, conduct background investigations and assist in preparation of reports for the Court. POL/GWS 461: FEMINIST AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS THEORIES

This course will

explore what it means to theorize and how power operates in knowledge production processes

survey contemporary theories of International Relations and how they shape practices of world politics

examine how theories of IR matter for understanding and responding to structural inequalities of gender/sex, race/ethnicity, class and nationality

familiarize students with feminist perspectives on, and feminist contributions to, theories of IR and Global Politi-cal Economy, emphasizing how gender shapes, and is shaped by, processes of globalization

Gender is understood here not as a synonym for ‘woman’ but as a hierarchical coding of masculinity and femi-ninity that pervades social relations and institutional practices, with systemic (though not deterministic) effects on inequalities. Gender meanings and practices permeate our lives, and a closer look at these processes is more illuminating than many anticipate, with relevance and implications for who we are, how we think, and how we act – as individuals, groups, communities and nation-states.

Designed to empower stu-dents through self-assessment and professional development workshops, the Edge Program will provide students with a proactive action plan. Targeting sophomores and juniors, Edge is offered in three sessions: Tuesdays from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm from September 8th to November 3rd (all

majors) Tuesdays from 5 pm – 6 pm from September 8th to November 3rd (STEM* ma-

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Workshop The Graduate College encourages students to prepare for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) through

formal or informal instruction and study, as appropriate to the individual. For those students seeking profes-

sional assistance, one option to consider is a workshop led by Michael Flynn, Executive Director of Grad Pros

Educational Consulting. Mr. Flynn has facilitated GRE workshops on the UA campus since 2000 and has re-

ceived consistently positive feedback.

There are three components to this workshop.

1. Practice tests: The course begins with a GRE practice test administered under simulated test conditions.

Scores will be analyzed to determine areas of strength and weakness for each participant. One additional prac-

tice test will be taken in class, and another will be taken at home to familiarize students with the GRE's com-

puter format.

2. Group instruction: Test-taking strategies for the quantitative, verbal and writing sections of the GRE will

be covered along with time management, stress/anxiety and other topics relating to test performance. Timed

sections will be administered to assess individual strengths/weaknesses and to improve pacing.

3. Extra help from the instructor: The instructor, Michael Flynn, is Executive Director of Grad Pros Educational

Consulting and former admissions committee member at Harvard University and the UCSD School of Medicine.

Extra help will be available during and after the workshop.

Dates

The Fall 2015 workshop is designed to be completed over 4 days, as noted below. As new material is present-

ed in each class, students need to commit to attending all four days of the workshop. The workshop is held on

the UA campus.

· Saturday, September 19, 9am - 5pm

· Sunday, September 20, 9am - 1pm

· Saturday, October 17, 9am - 5pm

· Sunday, October 18, 9am - 1pm

Cost

The cost of the workshop is $300, which includes all instruction, a GRE practice book and extra help both dur-

ing and after the workshop.

and phone number, please include the following information about your affiliation with UA and your plans to

take the GRE:

· Current UA students: indicate your year in school (junior, senior, graduate student, etc) and expected

GRE test date. Note: you may be asked to show your UA Cat Card at the first workshop.

· UA alumni: indicate your graduation date and expected GRE test date.

· UA staff: indicate your title, department, and expected GRE test date.

· Community members: indicate your expected GRE test date.

Class size is limited and registration is prioritized in the order indicated above.
