DUBAISME 100 Rankings

The Department of Economic Development (DED) yesterday

recognized the Emirate’s top 100 small and medium enterprises

at a ceremony at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Dubai SMEs

today represent 95 per cent of all firms registered in Dubai,

More than 3,000 SME’s applied for the award, which were

evaluated on innovation, human capital development,

international orientation and corporate governance. The Dubai

Economic Department first initiated this by a ranking of SME’s

in 2011, It was decided then that the ranking will be done every 2

years. The Ranking in 2013 had 3 times the number of SME’s

applying for the prestigious honor.

PPG and its members are extremely proud to advise that Triple

Crown shipping and Logistics LLC, on behalf of all their loyal

and long-standing customers, agents, partners, vendors and well-

wishers that TCSL was ranked 79th in the 2011 ranking and even

with more SME’s applying in 2013. TCSL improved their

ranking to 73rd. This no doubt makes us all very proud of

TCSL’s achievement but this could not have been possible

without the full support of all customers.

PPG Successfully Completes its 4th

Annual ISO Audit

PPG has successfully completed its fourth annual surveillance audit of its international quality management standard. The audit was conducted by SAI Global and zero non-conformances were identified. With this audit and the ISO 9001:2008 certification is continued for another three years under PPG's reviewed tri-annual audit scheme.

TransProject Successfully Pass 4th ISO

Audit With Zero Non-Comformities

TransProject LLC, USA, has successfully passed their fourth annual ISO audit with zero exceptions. This is the second consecutive audit where zero non-conformities were found, which is a wonderful achievement. TransProject first achieved Quality Certification to ISO 9001:2008 standard in 2009. The Scope of Certification covers the Management of the Distribution, Handling and Shipping of Project Cargo Worldwide. Within their ISO policy, TransProject are also compliant with 14001 environmental standards. PPG congratulates Susan St Germain and her team on this wonderful achievement, in particular John Timmins for his hard work in maintaining the ongoing audit of their ISO program and for these extraordinary results.

Royal Cargo Transports Modular Pontoons for

Singapore Oil Rig

On June 27, 2013, Royal Cargo Combined Logistics, Inc.

(RCCLI) began the move of 16 pieces of modular pontoons weighing from 260 Tonnes to 337 Tonnes to the installment

area in Keppel Port in Batangas, Philippines. RCCLI is the industry leader in the Philippines and their Project and

Heavy Lift division completed the move on August 27 -

exactly two months from the commencement of the move, on time and on budget. Approximately 4,500 MT in

collective weight with dimensions that ranged from

L8.500m X W16.000m X H 9.500m to L11.500m x W16.000m x H9.500m. The over dimensional cargoes will

be the base of the Oil Rig in Keppel Batangas Shipyard which will be transported to Singapore.

Exceptional Project Performance Shin-Jo

Logitech Korea

Shin-Jo Logitech Co., Ltd. have successfully concluded a

major project from Onsan, Korea to Paradip, India. Shin-Jo’s scope of services included transportation from ex

Shipper’s factory in Onsan to arrival at Ro-Ro Jetty in Paradip port, including provision of technical engineering

data for inland & sea transportation procedures and bedding

& sea-fastening procedures.

Their scope also included vessel chartering, loading by Roll-On/Roll-Off method, sea-fastening, sea transportation to

Paradip port and port agency at both ends. Cargo

comprised two Settler units and two Reactors for Paradip Refinery project from IOCL. Overall dimensions for each

Settle were 47.00m(L) x 8.80m(W) x 8.50m(H) x

470tonnes. Each Reactor was 47.00m(L) x 8.80m(W) x 7.81m(H) x 303ton. Shin-Jo arranged total 96 Axles SPMT

for inland transportation in Korea and self-propelled deck vessel for sea transportation.

PPG Saudi Arabia First Private Company

in Guinness Book of World Records

On 25th September, 2012 The President of Almajdouie Group, Mr.

Abdullah Almajdouie, and Vice President Logistics Mr. S. I. Mustafa,

received the certificate as Guinness World Record Holder for “Heaviest

Item Moved by Road Freight” from the Managing Director of Guinness

World Records, Mr. Alistair Richards in Dammam. The Gala ceremony

was arranged in Sheraton Hotel to celebrate the historic achievement, which

was attended by more than 500 distinguished guests from within the

logistics industry.

The award is based on the transportation of eight (8) evaporator units each

weighing over 4,891 tonnes from the manufacturer in South Korea,

delivered project site in Saudi Arabia. The combined weight for all the units

will exceed 41,000 tonnes.

As a sheer feat of engineering, the ambition and execution of the plant was

breath taking. Observing the whole process from construction and assembly

in Korea to its installation 4,700 miles away in Saudi Arabia is a visually

powerful story that will capture the viewers’ imagination and create a sense

of awe.

The engineering miracle of Ras Al Khair desalination plant Inspired by the

desert, funded by the Saudi’s at $1.5bn, built in Korea, shipped in one

piece, turning saltwater into 228 million gallons of drinking water per day,

enough to provide the drinking water needs of 3.5m people.

The Ras Al Khair desalination plant made headlines recently when one of

its 8 condenser units became the biggest load ever transported by road. The

record was broken as the unit (larger than a football field) was rolled

off from the ship that had transported it from the assembly plant in Korea at

the tailor made port in Saudi Arabia and then driven 2 km along desert

roads for installation at the plant.

When it becomes operational in early 2013, the plant will be biggest

desalination plant in the world. It’s the story of cutting edge engineering,

technology and logistics coming together to deliver the single most precious

commodity on earth – fresh water – on a game changing scale. It is a

glimpse of a brave new future happening now; the wherewithal to quench

the thirst of millions and turn deserts green.

But the story is bigger than that. As the world’s population tops 7 billion

and the control and access to water is predicted to become a greater source

of conflict than oil, desalination on this scale is a man-made solution to a

man-made problem.

It begins with an almost incomprehensible engineering challenge – the

mastery of new technologies on an unprecedented scale – and ends with one

of the most emotive sights on earth – crystal clear, drinking water gushing

from a tap, into a glass and raised to be consumed.

Since the beginning of 2012, Almajdouie has moved five (5) of these units

of same size and are in the process of moving the last three (3) Evaporators

by the end of this year.

Nailesh Gandhi Appointed Trustee on

the Board of Mumbai Port Trust

Mr. Nailesh Gandhi, Director of M/s Express Global Logistics Pvt. Ltd., has been appointed as Trustee on the Board of

Mumbai Port Trust (MBPT) for the period of 2012-14. Mr.

Gandhi is already on the Board of Trustee of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust for the year 2011-13; president of BCHAA

(The Bombay Custom House Agent Association); and also the Vice-Chairman of Federation of Freight Forwarders

Association in India known as FFFAI, an apex body of All

India Custom House Agents Associations. Mr. Gandhi was awarded the WCO Certificate of Merit by World Custom

Organization in February 2012 for providing valuable input on the subject of Customs Self Assessment and budgetary

proposals, changes required in policies and procedures and

Macro policy issues.

Stakeholder Working Group - “LaRue

will Represent the Texas Ports”

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) selected John P. LaRue, Port Corpus Christi (POCCA), Executive

Director to represent the Texas Ports in the newly formed

Panama Canal Stakeholder Working Group. LaRue joins representatives from other organizations in the

transportation field interested in the expansion of the Panama Canal. The group will provide TxDOT with

promotion of port activities related to the state

transportation planning to better handle the foreseen increase of cargo (especially exports) through the Texas

Ports, rail and highways.

POCCA’s Executive Director will join representatives from

other sectors such as maritime, trucking, rail, government, agriculture, manufacturing, and oil and gas industries. “I

am honored to be part of the group. Port Corpus Christi is

one of the Texas ports with projects underway to position itself for the opportunities the expansion of the Panama

Canal will bring to South Texas.” said John LaRue.

Australia's shipping, ports and maritime industry gathered at the Lloyd's List DCN Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards to celebrate excellence and achievement. Held at the Sofitel Ballroom in Melbourne, more than 400 senior industry executives attended, making this one of the most premier events in the Shipping calendar with representation from every state making this one of the must attend events. Delegates came from across the nation to learn the nominees and winners in 16 categories determined by the judging panel and two awards selected by Lloyd's List DCN.

Corpus Christi, TX – On September 14, 1926, the State of Texas had an official "statewide" celebration of the opening of the Port. The Port of Corpus Christi is a PPG Project Support Member. Eighty five years later, the Port will kick-off its celebration with a community event honoring friendship and commerce, signing an Memorandum of Understanding with the Panama Canal Authority. The week-long schedule of events honoring “85 years Building South Texas” was attended by PPG Founder/Chairman, Kevin Stephens and Susan St Germain President of TransProject LLC and Head of the PPG Advisory Board.

Susan St. Germain Named "Woman Business

Owner of the Year"

All PPG members congratulate Susan St. Germain of TransProject LLC, USA, on the announcement that she has won the NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) Houston Award. This follows her nomination in 2010. Ten Area Women Business Owners were nominated as Finalists.

NAWBO Houston provides this award to a local woman business owner who has demonstrated excellence as a business owner, shown initiative and creativity in overcoming obstacles in her business, has civic and community involvement and professional accomplishments and contributions. This award is not about the size of the business, but passion of the woman running the business. NAWBO Houston takes pride in the fact that this is the only award given to women business owners by women business owners.

National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO®) is the only dues-based national organization representing the interests of all women entrepreneurs in all industries. The winner was selected by the NAWBO Houston Board of Directors and Susan received her award at the Woman Business Owner of the Year Gala held at The Houston Club.

The shipment was arranged from Israel to Kansas

City, Missouri U.S.A. Individual engine dimensions/weight were 524 x 244 x 295 cm/7,600

kgs.

Quality Freight swings

into action to help £500

million power station

take shape

Quality Freight UK is playing a key role in the development of a £500 million gas-fired power station. Quality Freight has been transporting some of the giant parts being used in the construction of Alstom’s new power station in Trafford.

The modules are shipped into the docks at Ellesmere Port before being carefully discharged using specialist heavy lift gear. The components are then transferred to barges for onward delivery on the Manchester Ship Canal to the site at Carrington, near Sale.

The power station is scheduled for completion in early 2016 and will generate sufficient electricity to be able to supply the needs of around one million homes. The new site will replace the former coal plant but only occupy half as much space.

The 880MW facility is being built using the latest natural gas combined cycle technology to ensure maximum energy efficiency and minimal impact to the environment.

Mr. Sebastian Gardiner, Managing Director of Quality Freight, said: “The Carrington project is the result of detailed planning and is a high profile example of our specialised heavy lift facility at Ellesmere Port in action.

“It has been particularly pleasing for ourselves and Alstom to have been able to use the Manchester Ship Canal to transport parts to the Carrington site. The canal offers a fantastic solution on a project of this nature as the alternative would have been to transport by road with the resulting delays to traffic.”

Quality Freight Group will be handling a number of further shipments over the coming weeks, including the power station’s giant turbines.

Quality Freight is part of the Quality Freight Group. In addition to the base in Ellesmere Port, the Group has bases in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Knock, Hull, Grangemouth, Chatham and Rotterdam.

Seven Seas Shipping Safely Deliver Huge

Transformers

Seven Seas Shipping, PPG Member for Jordan and Iraq, have successfully concluded the delivery of 5 huge transformers and ancillary equipment from Masan Port, Korea, to Basra District, Iraq. Each transformer weighed 233 tonnes. The overall shipment comprised 1,898.690 tonnes – 4,331.340 cbm.

Final Destination was at the new Shat Basra Gas power plant located 175 klms north of Port Umm-Qasser. 5 low loaders and 75 trailers were utilised during inclement weather conditions, with final delivery completed on 12 December 2013 on time, safely and on budget to the complete satisfaction of the Client.

The transformers were offloaded at the Job Site utilising hydraulic jacks on steel stands. Seven Seas Shipping thank all their personnel at Basra who fulfilled the job professionally and once again proved “sky is the limit”

Vantage Logistics Safely Conclude Absorption Tower to

an Ammonium Nitrate Plant

Vantage Logistics Corp (VLC), has successfully concluded the safe and timely delivery of a 130.7 tonne Absorption Tower to an Ammonium Nitrate Project Job Site in Thai Thuy Village, Thai Tho district, Thai Binh Province, Vietnam.

VLC’s scope of services included Survey the river ways including tide, wind, water flow and bridge height clearance to determine the best way for water transportation from Hai Phong port; Design, calculate budget, apply for construction license and construct the temporary jetty for roll-off operations; Receive cargo from vessel hook in Ha Long Anchorage direct to VLC’s barge; Barge voyage of 325 km on river ways to temporary jetty; Roll-off at jetty and delivery to installation position;

Cargo particulars: Absorption Tower for Ammonium Nitrate Plant, L41.5m x W5.0m x H4.80m x 130.7 tonne.

Successfully Load 284

Mt Cable Reels from

U.K. to Abu Dhabi

Express Global Logistics Pvt. Ltd. (formerly known as Express Transport), recently arranged for the safe and timely loading of 284 tonne x 2 Cable Reels on m.v. “Carolina” from Port Hartlepool U.K to Mina Zayed Port, Abu Dhabi. The vessel commendably stowed 1,065 cbm on board both in the hatch & under deck. The reels weighed up to 284 tonnes each & measurements of up to 9.380m x 5.910m x 9.200m.

The Cable Reels were destined for the 3 Well Head Platform Project in the Abu Dhabi and considering the urgency of the shipment, a senior team member of the EXG project team personally visited UK to supervise loading and ensure the safe loading and stowage of the shipment.

According to Mr Nailesh Gandhi “the challenge was to arrange Gearless vessel matching Cargo laycan at Hartlepool. Another challenge was to load the cargo during very Cold & Windy weather. However due to excellent Loading, Stowing, Sea Fastening and Planning the cargo loading process, the operation was completed well in time (6 Hours) at Port Hartlepool.”

A word from the founder-chairman. As we are all aware, there are no foreseeable

weaknesses expected in project-breakbulk trades

in the near to middle term and the impending

retirement of some is not helped by the exodus of

skilled recruits from our industry.

Seven years ago, our members suggested that

PPG lead the way and establish its own

International “Certificate of Achievement in

Project Forwarding” Education Program and we

are proud of the fact that PPG made good with its

promise to fulfil these member expectations and

requirements.

The full list of previous courses can be reviewed

on page 2 of this newsletter.

The aim of PPG is to develop personnel in all

aspects within the specialised field of project

forwarding. In order to develop, course

participants we collaborate across sectors and

cultures to seek the most appropriate solutions

for specific projects.

The ISO Accredited PPG Program has at its

disposal all the knowledge and human resources

of all members of the organisation, which

includes some of the most experienced project

forwarders in the world.

PPG conferences are the single-most important

benefit of your membership and should be

considered part of your overall education facility.

PPG is building on its solid foundations forged

over the past seven years and has never received

an adverse comment or complaint from any
