Rakhshi has been the owner of Whitefi eld Dental Practice since 2002. Originally trained in London Guys Hospital, Rakhshi qualifi ed as a dentist in 1994, after which she returned to the North West. Her patient experience was gained in Halifax, West Yorkshire, followed by Bolton and then in a city centre practice in Manchester.Having gained a wealth of experience and knowledge Rakhshi got the bug to have her own dental practice. So in 2001 after the birth of her fi rst son Bilal she decided to take the plunge and buy her fi rst dental practice and became the proud owner of Whitefi eld Dental Practice in 2002.

“I decided that I wanted to be a dentist from a very young age – I think I was only 11 years old! When I got a place at Dental School I was so pleased, but I think I underestimated how hard I would have to work to pass my exams” says Rakhshi.

Rakhshi worked alongside the previous owner Mr.Simon until his retirement in 2005, when she became the sole dentist in the practice. Over the last seven years Rakhshi has worked very hard to build up the practice and introduce new technology to improve patient care.

Says Rakhshi “I am lucky to have a job I enjoy and everyday brings fresh challenges. I am also privileged to work with such experienced and hard working staff that also know when to have a laugh”

As a busy working mother of two boys Bilal and Zain (born in 2004) and a wife to Nadeem. Rakhshi is fully aware of a good work life balance and works hard to get the balance right between family and business.

“It’s the simple things and times which count for me, during the winter months I enjoyed going into Heaton Park as a family taking advantage of the hills when the snow arrived, giving me a chance to act like a child again and go sledging!”

other things I enjoy doing outside work:

• I am a member of a local gym (it’s not something I enjoy but know I have to go!)

• Turning the phone off and settling down to watch Desperate Housewives!

Favourite Holiday: Florida aged 18 (No kids, no husband and no stress)

memorable moment: Meeting Steve Davies snooker legend and had my picture taken with him

Favourite Food: My mums lamb pilau rice and chicken tikka – (nobody cooks as well as your mum!)

If I was not a dentist what would I be:A Pharmacist – that was my second career choice

What does the future hold: I would like to bring in more specialists into the practice so we don’t have to keep referring patients. For example for braces and implants.

At Whitefield Dental Practice we believe that good homecare habits are essential for long term health of the heart and other organs as well as in order to prevent dental problems.

Hygienists work with patients on the skills and habits they need to stay healthy, stay filling free and keep their teeth for life. Our experienced hygienists Teresa and Laura will assess your gums and homecare habits, remove any hard plaque and work with you to give you the skills, tools and techniques you need to remove plaque from every surface of every tooth every day.

It’s not all about cleaning...90% of the work we do as dentists is totally and utterly preventable, and if we can get our patients working with our hygienist Teresa and Laura, we can help to prevent so much disease.

We know that a lot of people dread going to the dentist (It’s more common than you think). At Whitefield Dental Practice we can offer different forms of sedation that can help patients overcome their fear.

We can offer oral sedation in the form of Diazepam tablets that really help patients relax, or for those that are really scared we can offer an intravenous sedation. This is when a valium type substance is injected into the back of the hand which will really relax the patient enabling us to carry out the dentistry and the patient does not remember anything about the visit.

Componeers are used to improve the colour, shape, size and texture of teeth to make them more attractive. They can be used to fi x minor chips and cracks in teeth. They are different from porcelain veneers in that they require little if any tooth reduction (drilling) and the treatment can be completed in a single visit.

Componeers can be used for treating a wide range of cosmetic dental problems in the same way as porcelain veneers are used. Common problems include:

• Crooked teeth• Stained teeth• Damaged teeth• Closing gaps between teeth

A woman and her husband interrupted their holiday to go to the dentist. “I want a tooth pulled, and I don’t want a needle to numb the pain because I’m in a big hurry,” the woman said. “Just extract the tooth as quickly as possible, and we’ll be on our way.” The dentist was quite impressed. “You’re certainly a courageous woman,” he said. “Which tooth is it?” The woman turned to her husband and said, “Show him your tooth, dear.”
