DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD EXPEDITION TO THE WARRUMBUNGLES On Friday 4th of November a group of hardy adventurers headed off from Molong Central School bound for the rugged Warrumbungles National Park on the first of their Bronze Level Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions. Pausing on-route at Gilgandra (to clean bugs from the windscreen) and Coonabarabran (to fill up our bellies), we arrived at the park on sunset, as the kangaroos and mozzies were becoming active. Packs were loaded, filled with everything needed for the next four days, and we headed off into the dark to our first night’s camp. Over the following days the group climbed high mountains, traversed mighty ridge-lines, forded trickling streams, viewed incredible views and tested out their camping and bush cooking skills in some stunning locations. All members of the party performed admirably, pushing on with steely determination when the going got tough or the hills got steep, completing the journey around a full traverse of the park, taking in the Grand High Tops and Mount Exmouth (the highest peak in the park). The park was an incredible mass of green and wildflowers, after recent rains and warm weather, following the bushfires of a couple of years ago. Congratulations to Josh, Pedro, Angel, Tahleia, Tristan, Lauren, Maddie, Piper, Leigh and Amber on completing this challenging trek in such an incredibly positive way – they should all be very proud of themselves. This group now works at completing their Skill, Physical Recreation and Community Service Components of the program, before completing their final Assessment Expedition during Term 1 of next year. ROTARY YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS FOR YR 9 STUDENTS Program one 25-27th November 2016 at Wagga, students will undertake workshops with presenters from business, sport and entertainment, designed to improve their team work and leadership skills. Cost is $330 and food and accommodation is provided. Molong Rotary will cover 1/3rd of cost. Program two, 11-16 December 2016, Molong Rotary and the Honeywell Engineering School, for students interested in Aeronautic, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Environmental Electrical, Computer, Mechanical or Mining engineering. Hosted by the University of New South Wales and Honeywell Engineering. Students interact with engineers from the Government, private companies, university researchers and academics and discuss career opportunities. Students stay for 6 days at Dunmore Lang College. Cost is $750. Molong Rotary will cover 1/3rd of the cost. Please see Mrs Clark if interested in either of the above programs. AURORA I spent my week 4 in Canberra at the Aurora College Residential Camp. For those of you who don’t know, Aurora is an online high school that offers selective Maths, Science and English classes for Years 7 – 10 and a range of senior subjects for students in Years 11 and 12. I take both Chemistry and Physics through Aurora, as we were unable to run a class at Molong due to numbers. The residential camps are run in Terms 1 and 4 each year and give the students the opportunity to meet and spend time with their classmates and teachers. For my two Science subjects, the camps also give us the chance to complete a range of practicals at a specialised lab with our teachers. Over the course of the week we did a lot of cool things including visiting Parliament House where we met Minister Fiona Nash and had a tour, and attending an interview skills workshop at Price Waterhouse Coopers where we got to practice interview techniques and talk to people who were very experience e in interviewing. We also had a poet come in on two nights to perform some SLAM poetry and run a poetry workshop, we got to play with virtual reality technology, and best of all we got to play laser tag! Overall, the week was extremely fun and I made so many new friends! I am very much looking forward to the next one in Term 1 next year. Tieke Thomas, Year 12 student

TeeBall Gala Day On Friday 4th November 20 students from Years 2-4 travelled to Orange to participate in a TeeBall Gala Day. The students were split into 2 teams on the day and played 3 non-competitive games against other Orange schools. The day was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn new skills about the game. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and we look forward to next years Gala Day. A big thankyou to Mr Dario Vardanega for driving the bus to orange and also to Mr David Ball, Orange District Primary School Sports Association Coordinator, for organising a fantastic event. .

Victorious at Primary Touch Gala Day On Thursday 10th November, four MCS touch football teams travelled into Orange to attend the Primary Schools Gala Day at Waratahs Sportsground. This was a fantastic day that focussed on developing touch football skills and knowledge, as well as participation and sportsmanship in team games. Each team played at least four games and although this was not a competitive event, we were so very proud that all four MCS teams remained undefeated all day, with some very convincing wins. We were especially proud of our Junior Boys and Junior Girls teams who had never played together as a team before this event, with some members who had never actually played touch football before either! A fantastic effort was displayed by all members of our teams on the day. Mrs Thornhill and I were also incredibly proud of the way our students conducted themselves both on and off the field. We saw high levels of positive sportsmanship and encouragement from our students, both towards their own team mates, and towards the members of others teams. The way the students conducted themselves on the day made for such an enjoyable and pleasant experience and I thank the students who attended this event for being so amazing!!!! Of course attending these events is made possible by the wonderful and supportive community we have at MCS. Thank you to Mrs Thornhill for her hard work in helping to co-ordinate this event, and to Mr Oxley who assisted with managing the teams on the day. Thank you to Mr Dario Vardanega who volunteered his time to transport children on the school bus to this event, and to Mrs Kirby, Mrs Bohringer, Mrs Peschka and Mr Cundy who also assisted in transporting students on the day. A collaborative effort allowed our students to participate in an excellent event and we hope the students had a very enjoyable day! Mrs Smith

Hi Everyone,

At this time of year, younger students are getting very excited

about the upcoming festive season. The Christmas titles from the

Library collection are now in a special box and students may

borrow these during their Library lessons over the next few weeks.

There have been many new titles purchased recently so, as usual,

students are encouraged to take great care of them. There will be

Christmas activities in the Library during Lunch time from Week 7.

Presently there are many students with overdue loans. I would

appreciate if students and their families could have a look at home.

There may be books lurking under beds or in bookcases. Thank

you to those students who have recently returned books.

The last issue of Scholastic Book Club has arrived and will be

distributed to students very soon. Orders will have to be back at

school on the specified date so items may be delivered before the

end of the school year.

The Molong Central School eBook Platform is at:

https://molongcentralschool.wheelers.co. Please be vigilant with

your Primary children when they are using the Platform and

supervise what ebooks they are borrowing.

Share a Christmas story with your children this week!
