Dear Friends and Family of Green House Living for Sheridan,

Fall is in the air! The leaves are changing to beautiful shades of yellow and orange as our

staff and elders anxiously await the activities of fall . They have already enjoyed a great trip

out to the Koltiska Pumpkin Patch and brought back a variety of colorful pumpkins! As you

can see, we had a marvelous summer visiting many local attractions throughout Sheridan and engaging in activities with our families and friends. One of our favorite outings was to

see the hummingbirds which brought back so many childhood memories for our elders.

Many thanks to Roseanne Gentry for hosting this event in her back yard! The County Fair is always a pleasure with the amazing entries of so many talented Sheridan residents, including

our own elder, Jerry. A unique treat was a visit by historical legend Buffalo Bill followed by

learning the history of Smokey Bear (remember: Only you can prevent forest fires)! Several

trips to the Kendrick Park and Ice Cream Stand always remain a favorite, especially the Huckleberry Ice Cream in a dish! The annual carnival brought many laughs and smiles from

our elders and has become a highly anticipated yearly event.

We continue to work with the Dementia Friendly Community sponsored through the Center

for a Vital Community. Green House Living is working with the health care continuum

group that is focusing on retaining enough well-trained CNA’s in our community to take care of our aging population. In particular, we want to make sure that these employees are

adequately prepared to care for those with dementia. Please check out the latest at

http://www.sheridancvc.org/dementia-friendly-communities/.

Just released is our new video tour of our community. Please check it out on Facebook! Our

upcoming activities and our featured volunteer, Pastor Kane are on Pg. 7. Finally, some of

the best times at Green House Living are those moments that we can enjoy with our families. See Pg. 5 for pictures!

Enjoy your fall and our newsletter!

Sincerely,

Chris Szymanski, Administrator

Congratulations to Julie Norris! Julie just com-

pleted a two year course of study to become an

Activity Director Certified! Julie has been with

Green House Living since December 2011,

however the first cottage did not open until

January 2012. Initially, Julie was hired as a

Shahbaz, however Julie also held the certification

of COTA/L “Certified Occupational Therapist

Assistant Licensed.” Therefore, Julie quickly

moved to the role of Activities Director due to her

education and experience in the field. In Julie’s

words, “I am very proud of the activities program

that I have helped develop at Green House

Living.” Through her newly earned certification,

Julie states, “I have a feeling of achievement and

personal growth.” Congratulations Julie!

Coordinator Roles at Green House Living

Empowered staff is one of Green House’s three core values. One way we empower some of the staff here is to utilize coordinator roles within the cottages. A coordinator is responsi-ble for coordinating, organizing and overseeing one particular facet of the life in the cottage. This fall, we’d like to recognize the four Scheduling Coordinators for the Shahbazim teams. They worked exceptionally hard the past few months making sure the houses were well-staffed as we went though a transitional season, ending the summer and beginning this fall. Though special thanks goes out especially to the Scheduling Coordinators, all staff at GHLS deserve a big thank you for coming together to make things work best for our elders.

Thank you so much! Left to right: JaLynn Gonzales (Scott), April

Garcia (Whitney), Nicole LaFond (Watt) and

Marsha Fort (Founders)
