I am delighted to publish Vol-II, Issue 5, 6 and Vol-III Issue 1, 2 of IQAC

Newsletter. At the outset I am to appreciate the programme initiated by

the government to activate all the activities of an institution through

introduction of IQAC in the Higher Educational Institutions all over the

State/Nation. To back up all systems and to make more activate and keep

up the chief objectives of an educational institution which are seem to be

died down in the contemporary period. To achieve this end, now the higher educational

institutions are playing vital role in the process of activation and trying their best to bear out

the same and assure transparency through the Newsletter. This programme is entirely

dedicated for overall good in the era of good governance for all. Our motto is to make stand

our premier institution i.e. Government College(Autonomous), Bhawanipatna as the model for

all the higher educational institutions in the State and country through ensuring quality

assurance. In fact, the HEIs have already undertaken such programmes to prompt natural

ACCOUNTS & FINANCE

The college received a Laboratory Development Grant of Rs.40 Lakhs for infrastructure development of Laboratory.

Sealed quotations were called from Registered Firms / Suppliers having valid PAN / TIN / VAT clearance certificate from the competent authority for supply of different items. Advertisement in this regard was made in leading Odia and English Newspaper for wide publicity.

A Purchase committee was constituted for the said purpose with Dr. Dinesh Chandra Dash, Accounts Bursar as the Convener and all HODs of different departments having practical component as Members.

Dr. Dinesh Chandra Dash took all initiative to follow the due procedures and guidelines issued by the Finance Department for procurement of the items. All members of the committee extended their support to Dr. Dash whole heartedly for carrying out the task.

HODs were very meticulous and careful while selecting a firm, sending purchase order, receiving of items, entering in stock register and certifying the amount to be paid. They all ensured that all procurements have been made without any deviation to the financial norms/guidelines of Finance Department Memorandum No. 4939, Dt.13-02-2012

A separate Stock Register is being maintained by all concerned HODs for the items procured under Laboratory Development Grant.

The said grant has definitely help the institution in improving the existing infrastructure of the Laboratories.

Return of Matriculates of +2 and +3 are sent to CHSE and Sambalpur University respectively.

Provided compiled data of students to the Auto. examination section for preparation of examinations.

HEALTH AND SANITATION

A blood donation camp was organized.

Monitoring activities are continuously taken to maintain the drinking water and toilet facilities.

Frequent campus cleaning campaign by students and employees in college premises.

INFRASTRUCTURE CCTV Cameras were installed in all classrooms.

Construction of Dispensary Hall and Career Counselling Hall has started.

The college received Rs.40 Lakh towards Laboratory Development Grant. Different Lab. Equipments, chemicals, etc were procured out of the grant.

Restoration of botanical garden was done.

Rewiring by the GED Department for smooth functioning of electrical equipments was done.

Aluminum Gate has already been installed.

DEPT. OF ANTHROPOLOGY

Different seminars were conducted.

Unit test conducted in the department in every two weeks.

The department procured different items under Laboratory Development Grant.

Parents-teacher meeting was organized.

Students of the department participated in different competitions organized by Students’ Union and sister associations.

DEPT. OF BOTANY

A total of 45 members (6 Staff and 39 Students) went to Amritsar, Shimla, Chandigarh, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur on a student’s exposure tour.

Students celebrated Goddess Sarawsati Puja with lots of joy and enthusiasm.

A massive plantation programme was organised by the students in Botanical Garden. A total of 25 exotic and medicinal plants were planted by the students.

On the theme Biodiversity, a total of 4 students delivered seminar on Friday and Saturday at 11.30 AM to 1.15 PM.

The Parents Teacher meeting was organized with participation of both students and their Parent/Guardian.

DEPT.OF CHEMISTRY

Seminars were conducted. Students and staff actively participated in the seminars.

Wall magazine published with many new topics.

Fare-well meeting was organized.

Students celebrated Goddess Sarawsati Puja with lots of joy and enthusiasm.

DEPT. OF COMMERCE

Orientation class for second semester students was orgainsed.

One seminar was conducted on the topic “Role of Small Scale Industries for Development of Rural Areas”. Students and staff participated in the seminar.

A welcome ceremony was organized in the department for +3 1st year students.

Unit tests were conducted in the department in every two weeks.

DEPT. OF ECONOMICS

Departmental seminar was conducted on “Rural Migration: A boon or curse”. Seven students presented papers in this seminar.

Departmental seminar on “Social sector development: Need of the hour” was also conducted. Two PG students and four UG students presented paper on the said topic.

An introduction session on conducting field study and preparation of field study report was held. Only PG students were participated and the HOD had given the timeline for final submission of field study report to department.

Departmental exposure visit was conducted. Twenty one students from both PG and UG along with faculties of the department were participated and exposure visit was to “Delhi-Jaipur-Agra”.

Unit test were conducted for PG students and UG students.

The parents-teacher meetings were organized. Parents gave valuable suggestions.

DEPT. OF ENGLISH Annual departmental picnic was organized.

Parents-teacher meeting was organized.

Seminar on the topic Linguistics as Scientific Study of Language was organized among PG 2nd Year students.

Seminars on the topics “WB Yeats as Last Romantic” and “Competence in Mother Tongue helps Second Language Learning” were held among PG 1st Year students

Study tour to Sambalpur was organised.

Students and faculty members attended national seminar at GM University, Sambalpur.

Different competitions such as Literary essay competition , Poetry composition, extempore speech, literary quiz, general awareness, song competition, dance competitions were organized.

Annual Day cum Bes wishes ceremony was organized.

DEPT. OF EDUCATION

Organised seminars on different topics such “Observation Method”, “Growth and Development”, “Principles of Development”, “Educational Psychology”, etc. Students presented papers in the seminar.

Students celebrated Goddess Sarawsati Puja with lots of joy and enthusiasm.

DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY

Seminars on the topic “Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger”, “Sustainable Development” and “Global partnership for developmet” were organised.

A socio-economic survey was conducted at Nuagaon village under Bhawanipatna block.

Debate competition on different topics from Geography was held.

PG students were encouraged to take UG Sem-I (Geography) classes so as to develop their command over content and teaching skill.

Sarawsati Puja was celebrated by the students.

DEPT. OF HISTORY

Departmental seminars were conducted for U.G. and P.G. students.

Parents-teacher meeting was organized.

Head of the Department of History Dr. B. Mishra with the help of M.phil Students and Faculties of the department conducted the archaeological excavation at Buddhiganh located on the left Bank of the Rahul river of M.Rampur Block. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) provided License and Dept. of Culture & Tourism Govt. of Odisha funded the project.

The findings of the excavation like ancient potteries, Iron tools, terracotta, tiles, semi-precious stone beads and pendants and bones etc will throw light on the early history of this area.

Students of the department participated in different competitions organized by the students union.

DEPT. OF MATHEMATICS

Different seminars were organized. Students and staff participated

actively and presented papers.

Class test were conducted.

Discussion session on JAM questions was held.

Parents-teacher meeting was organised.

DEPT. OF ODIA

The students and faculties participated in Swachha Bharat Abhijan

organized by the college.

Conducted seminar of M.Phil students.

Conducted M.Phil internal examination.

Conducted M.Phil field study programme.

Conducted viva voce text of +3 Semester-I Hons. students.

One student of the Department qualified for JRF, and two qualified in

NET.

Some students have been selected in the written examination of State

Selection Board.

Organized the Extramural Lecture i.e. “Manikeswari series of Lecture”

Field study of PG Sem. IV Students was undertaken to study the

Socioeconomic & Cultural life style of Bhatra Community of Ampani

Area and study the wooden craft of Khairpadar village of Dharamgarh.

A Seminar of PG Sem. IV students was held

A special session was held for PG Sem IV & M.phil students of the dept

to inspire them for NET Examination Conducted by CBSE. Previous

questions were solved and Dr. J. N Pradhan H.O.D discussed on types of

anticipated questions and pattern of questions.

A Seminar of PG Sem. II Students was held.

NET & JRF result was published by CBSE, two students of M.phil

(Odia) have qualified for JRF and one Student of M.phil has qualified

NET.

DEPT. OF PHYSICS The time table of the department and the syllabus distribution among the faculties was done.

Classes of +3 IIIrd year +3 IInd year students of Honours Pass and Major was started.

First seminar session of the department was held and Miss Rosy Goud of class 9th of Rupra road high school, given a talk on (Harnessing of light possibilities and challenges along with our guest faculty Sri Imran Ahemed Khan on topic “Effect of Cellular radiation on Human body”

In the second seminar Mr.Subhampriyadarshi Behera delivered a talk on “Black Hole” and Mr.Bikram Keshari Parida delivered a talk on “Hydraulic Machines

On the eve of teachers day a seminar was organized where Miss Smita Manjari Panda delivered a talk on topic“ Super conductivity” and miss Swagatika Pradhan delivered a talk on “Megleve Train”.

The students and faculty members celebrated the teacher’s day

More than 60% syllabus of +3 IIIrd year and +3IInd year students was completed and the students were prepared to appear the First inter nal exam.

A board of studies meeting was also conducted for new CBCS system where the new syllabus was approved and classes of +3 Ist year core was started as per time table and new syllabus.

In the fourth session Miss Ranjanasingh had delivered a talk on “Micro Oven” and Miss Swagatika Sahu delivered a talk on “Birth and dearth of stars’.

Welcome ceremony was organsied where +3 IIrd year and +3 IIIrd year physics honours students welcomed the new members of the family that is +3 Ist year honours students to the department.

In the fifth seminar Miss Prgyan Rani Thakur delivered a talk on “Rainbow”, Mr.Sumanta Kumar sahu delivered a talk on topic “Wireless electricity” and MR. Subhendusekhar Sahu delivered a talk on topic ”Crystallography”.

In the sixth session of seminar Miss Pramita Khamari delivered a talk on ”Fiber optics” and Mr. Amit Kumar Sahu had delivered a Talk on “Physics Behind earth Quake”.

More than 80% syllabus of +3IIIrd year and +3IInd year was completed and the students were prepared for second internal as well as for the odd semesters. More than 60% syllabus of +3Ist year core was done and the students were prepared for Mid-Term exam.

The seventh session of seminar Mr.Abhijit Sen an ex-student of the department make understand students about IITs and how to pursue higher studies in IITs

100% syllabus of +3IIIrd year and +3IInd year students was completed along with some revision and remedial classes and the students were ready to appear the semester exams.

Two students of the department, Miss PragyanRani Thakur and Mr. Samir Kumar Meher have selected in Tcs campus drive at Bhawanipatna.

The eighth seminar Miss Jyotika Nanda and Miss Swati Sathpathy delivered a seminar on topic “Equation of Ellipse on polar co-ordinates.

Classes of +3 IIIrd year and +3 IInd year students for even semesters was started

100% syllabus of +3 Ist year core was completed and the students were ready to appear the first semester exam.

The department had conducted the National graduate level Physics Exam (NGPE) organised by Indian Association Of Physics Teachers (IAPT), on 24.01.2016 where 126 students that is all honours and some pass and major students have participated.

Three students of the department Miss Smita Manjari Panda, Mr.T. Bikash and Mr. Asutosh Labla have selected in the campus drive by Wipro technology in Rayagada.

Among the 126 students 20 students have qualified the NGPE exam.

Again the department added a feather in its cap when one of the Ist year physics honours student Miss Sonali Panda is found to be among top 21 students in national level and got a chance to pursue a short term course in IIT Kanpur.

Many students of the department have appeared the IIT Jam exam in which many students have crossed the cut off mark and two of the expected to enter the IITs. Mr.Sumanta Kumar Sahu and Mr.Simanchal Bag are those two students who brought the respect for the department as well as for the college.

The Department had organized annual get together cum best wishes ceremony to felicitate the outgoing family member

DEPT. OF POL. SCIENCE

Some class tests were conducted in Different periods among the students from time to time.

Different seminars were conducted.

Parents-teacher meeting was organized. Parents gave valuable suggestions.

Students of the department participated in different competitions and cultural events organized by the Students’ Union and Dramatic Society.

Sarawsati Puja was celebrated by the students.

DEPT. OF SANSKRIT

The department organized a paper reading seminar.

Seminars were organized in the department. Students and staff actively participated in these seminars.

Parents-teacher meeting was organized.

Students of the department participated in different competitions organized by the college.

DEPT. OF ZOOLOGY

Seminars were held in on “Future prospect of Bio-technology”

GK competitions were held on “Biology in life” and that was followed by debate competition on the same topic.

The parents-teacher meetings were organized. Parents gave valuable suggestions.

Free coaching on Biology for +2 students concluded. More than 35 +2 2nd Year students of the college and neighboring colleges were benefited.

Bacterial culture had successfully done in Research Laboratory of the department.

Department of MSW & MJMC

The department celebrated the birth day of Mahatma Gandhi and organized a departmental campus cleaning programme with respect to Swachha Bharat Mission by our Prime Minister of India. The programme was initiated by Captain J.D.Sahoo, staff and students.

The department successfully conducted different seminars.

The department conducted a sample survey to provide practical knowledge to the students of MSW. The survey was conducted in the village of Upper Katabanji, GP-Medinipur, Dist-Kalahandi.

EAST HOSTEL Boarders went on a study tour to one of the famous Saibapitha “Kapilas”

and Temple city of Bhubaneswar.

The Boarders Celebrated the 39th Annual Day of the Hostel with Capt. Dibyasankar Mishra, Hon’ble MLA Junagarh as Chief Guest, Sri Jogabyas Bhoi, Mountaineer, as Guest Of Honour, Sri Umesh Satapathy as Chief Speaker.
