Yojana & Research Paper

the judge Mr. Diwakar Kaiwar
Yojana marks a significant milestone in the academic journey of
IBMR. Yojana is a much awaited event and is IBMR’s pride - the
annual business plan and research paper presentation competitions.
Fondly called as ‘the battle of ideas’, it is a prestigious inter college
event where teams compete for the coveted prizes sponsored by
corporate in the categories of ‘best business plan’, ‘the winning idea’
and the ‘most creative presentation’. This year the prizes were
sponsored by Mr. Sreedhar of Asha Health Care, Mr. R.P Shetty of
Centrum, Ms. Manju Bhatia of Manjusha Infotech, Federal Bank.
AVIVA Insurance and MINT sponsored the rolling trophy for the
event.
Yojana is a platform which provides immense learning experience to
the participants, provided by industry experts who grace the eminent
judging panel. This year, we had Chief Guests Mr. Diwakar Kaiwar,
Founder & Director, Pravaa Info System and Mr. Ravindra
Krinshnappa, Angel Investor and Product Startup.
A significant part of Yojana is the research paper presentations by
the IBMR students. The best papers are chosen after stages of
screening and tough competition in which the students take part
diligently and enthusiastically at every stage. This year saw some
noteworthy papers covering a wide spectrum from strategic
management to real estate and exploring ideas like ‘Can the Mumbai
Taxiwallahs learn best practices from its dabbawallahs ?’ to ‘ How
can Mass Customization be used to promote inexpensive brands?’.
My gratitude to my colleagues and my students for their contributions towards bringing out a newsletter with a
difference. Garnering the resources, compiling them and presenting it to you in its present form needs a lot of effort.
We congratulate our editorial team of faculty and students for their tireless effort. While accepting it with all its
strengths, do let us know where we lack, so that next time we come back bigger and stronger.
Happy reading and reminiscing! Good luck to News@IBMR!

IBMR organizes real life learning through the regular industry visits. In the last year, we had several visits to
industries which play a major role in putting the theories learnt in the classroom in the right perspective, through the
hands-on experience that these visits provide. Some of the noteworthy industry visits were:
Visit to Hindustan Coca-Cola Bottling Plant, Bidadi: This visit gave the students ample opportunity to see how
the plant manages the processing, packaging, & bottling of its products - Coca Cola, Maaza and Thums Up. The
students were taken through a complete channel of stations on the filling station with the supervisor explaining each
of the processes.
Visit to Infosys: The full-day visit at Infosys took students to a new world of ‘services sector’, taking a break from
usual factory visits with manufacturing sector companies. Students were shown the history of Infosys, how it
expanded globally and gave a world-class organization to India in the IT industry.
Visit to BPL Technovision Pvt. Ltd: The Visit to BPL, Bangalore gave an opportunity to the IBMR students to
understand the various stages of production involved, from procuring raw materials to quality control. Students also
got an insight into the various aspects of production especially, the factory layout, product demarcation and safety
measures.

Sports Day Students at IBMR will definitely agree
that sports are an integral part of IBMR.
Indoor games like Table tennis, Carom
& Chess are a permanent fixture in our
cafeteria and they are ideal stress busters
for our students. IBMR also organizes
intra-college events & we had a gala
sports meet in April with a day of sports
events like football, cricket & athletics.
Staff & students enthusiastically took
part and cheered the participants.
‘Ready, Steady, ...’

International Study Tour
Students (above) & IBMR Dean
Dr. Chandra Niranjan (below)
To meet the dynamic and diverse demands on business and
industry in the age of globalization, our MBA students need to
be prepared and equipped to lead in a global, cross cultural
world.
IBMR gears up to these real world demands through the
international study tours. We have had batches of our students
visiting countries like Singapore, Malaysia and the UAE. The
students got immense opportunity to observe first-hand global
business by meeting the business leaders and learn how to
develop and execute their strategy and manage international
business.
The students also experienced and understood the culture and
lifestyle of these countries which are valuable lessons in future
cross- cultural communication that their jobs would demand.
The noteworthy places visited in the UAE, Singapore and
Malaysia were:
Dubai-Skyline University College (SUC)
Sharjah-CONMIX Ltd.
Ajman Free Trade Zone
China Mall
Singapore New Water Treatment Plant
Sentosa Island
Hi-Fi Bread factory
University of Malaya
Genting Island
Experiential Learning
The workshop on Experiential Learning was meant to give
students the experience of real life crisis scenarios and ways to
deal with it. The dynamic facilitator Edward Lawrence gave a
CRISIS situation of an earthquake and asked to optimally
allocate the resources. Three simple rules were to be practiced:
(1) Whatever happens in CRISIS stays in CRISIS, (2) In order
to make learning happen, everybody has to participate & (3)
Create a whole lot of experience, break it and discuss it so that
others can also learn. The students enjoyed stepping out of
their comfort zones and learning the elements of conflict
management, time management & effective communication.

CSR Activities IBMR believes strongly in the need to integrate academics
with social outreach and awareness activities which will
mould our students into responsible citizens. IBMR
students participated in the activities of the not-for-profit
organization Janaagraha’s campaigns to enable citizen
participation in public governance. The ‘I paid a bribe
campaign’ was meant to convey the message of not paying
bribes to the general public and the IBMR students took
part, spreading the message verbally and through posters in
the areas of Koramangala, Jaya Nagar, JP Nagar etc.
The IBMR students’ group, during the visit to National
Association of the Blind, was acquainted with the training
centres for imparting mobility and vocational training to
the visually challenged. The students handed over the
supply of grocery to the Association and some sweet
packets as a token of their appreciation for the NGO. They
also promised to visit again and extend any volunteer
service in future.
IBMR also arranged a Blood-Donation Camp and large
number of students became a part of this noble act.
Faculty Meet The IBMR Faculty met for a detailed
exchange of ideas, presided by
Dr. Chandra Niranjan, Dean – IBMR, on
the upcoming events and newer
methodologies of delivering various
subjects in the coming academic session.
Each faculty shared his/her professional
achievements, research accomplishments
and the faculty were applauded for their
contribution towards shaping IBMR.

Cultural Events IBMR, as is the tradition, is always enthusiastic in celebrating
festivals like Navratri, Dusshera and Ganesh Puja with the gaiety
and fervour befitting the occasion. Navratri and Dusshera began with
the traditional ceremony where the staff and students invoked the
blessings of Goddess Durga. The auditorium then transformed into a
dandiya floor, with the IBMR family dancing away to the rhythm of
traditional music and songs. On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh
Chaturthi, we sought the blessings of Ganesha in all our endeavours.
The ensemble for the occasion was ethnic and everybody had
refreshments which included traditional cuisines. We had an early
Christmas celebration to usher in the spirit and good cheer of the
season and the joy of the New Year.
IBMR always thinks ‘out of the box’ and one such event was the
‘Cook without Fire’ which brought out the creative and culinary
skills of our students.
IBMR had a gala Annual Day function at Unnati Hall which saw a
dazzling display of talent, fun and frolic. Students mesmerized the
audience with a fashion show and a wide array of dances from retro to
fusion. The grand finale was the alluring performance by a popular
fusion band ‘Aghor’.
