2 April 2015

Earlier this year, your Board of Directors, Past President’s Council, Committee Chairpersons and management team completed a planning retreat that crafted a vision for the club, strategic priorities for this year, and short term action plan to implement in the next 6 months. I am pleased that your Board of Directors adopted and approved the following at our meeting March 18, 2015:

Our vision for Meridian Hills Country Club is to be widely recognized as a premier family country club in the Midwest, whose tradition of distinguished membership provides exceptional social opportunities, facilities, amenities, and grounds as a gathering place for the whole family to enjoy year round.

Strategic Priorities for 2015#1 - Continually improve Club facilities to exceed member expectations. #2 - Strengthen marketing & communication efforts to increase and retain Club membership. #3 - Increase and diversify revenue to support capital improvements for the Club.

Short-term Action plan for 2015 fiscal year:1) Increase parking by approximately 60 spots by demolishing the golf equipment storage shed, and building a new storage barn in the “dump area”, and paving and striping the lot. 2) Replace the aged cardio equipment in the fitness room with new treadmills, elliptical, bikes, and a rowing machine.3) Improve the pool facility by gaining new lounge chairs, starting blocks for the swim team, and tables and chairs in the pool dining area with a new bar.4) Create a new outdoor gathering space on the deck near the Pro shop with a fire pit and all weather bar station.5) Implement Jonas Software allowing an updated website infrastructure which enables reservations for golf, dining, special events messaging, member account information and a social networking platform.6) Add new golf tee boxes allowing for 5 separate areas designed to allow players of all abilities to play at an appropriate distance, resulting in faster rounds.

No Cost to Membership:With appreciation of the hard work of previous boards and our management team, we are able to make these improvements within our current financial means. Now that is exciting!

Now is a perfect time to invite a friend to join Meridian Hills: Our membership committee has reintroduced an incentive program which reduces the cost of membership, and provides a credit for sponsors, which is further detailed in the membership section of the Newsette. This program helped to bring in 47 members a few years ago, and our goal is to have that same type of success. Now is a great time to be a member of Meridian Hills.Sincerely,Jim Dodson

Jim Dodson Club President

Membership UpdateMembership Chairman Update

It has been a long winter but, spring is upon us and the club is looking forward to a successful season. The golf course and tennis courts have finally dried out and now is a great time to get out and enjoy a round of golf and/or a great game of tennis.

Remember to make reservations now for Breakfast with the Bunny (April 4th) and our fabulous Easter Sunday brunch on April 5th. Chef Joe always has a fabulous Easter buffet and I am sure he will be excited to see you enjoying his wonderful food creations.

The Membership Committee had a very productive meeting in March, one of the items we discussed was our fabulous Jr. Golf Program. MHCC has one of the best programs in the Midwest, the details on the program are on the following page. As always you can reach out to Megan Christman for more details or to suggestion a potential Jr. Member.

Thanks for your continued support!Pat Schaefer

New Swim Team Coach, Ed AhlbrandThere's nothing more important than investing in our future except perhaps, making sure to take the time to enjoy the current moment. I think children do this piece best...they have an infectious zest for having a good time and if you know how to solicit it properly...they have an insatiable desire to learn and improve. For me, working with children is about igniting a passion to get better. It's showing them how to shine with self confidence, learn by doing, and gain valuable life long social skills through personal achievement, teamwork and healthy competition.

I myself, am a voracious reader. I value personal growth and a spirit to serve above all else and I find myself extraordinarily blessed to do all of the above within the confines of an illustrious, dedicated and fulfilling 21+ year career teaching youngsters to swim and compete.

Continuing my love affair with water, my passions round out with surfing (a task I have fallen far short of mastering yet) and Scuba Diving (I recently became a fully certified PADI instructor).

I had the great privilege of leading the Cathedral High School Boys and Girls swim team to a city championship, and in addition to my many wonderful years as head of Aquatics at the Riviera Club, I hold a few other titles and certifications but I'm far less compelled to spell them all out in an effort to impress than I am compelled to share with you my genuine excitement and joy to start a new chapter here at Meridian Hills among all you wonderful families.

I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you over time and I want you to know that all of you and your children already have a ferocious fan and humble servant leader at your disposal.

Thank you,Ed Ahlbrand

Pool Manager, Ashley GilchristMy name is Ashley Gilchrist and I graduated from Indiana University in May 2014 and I am currently the K-2 special education teacher at Nora Elementary School in Washington Township. I am so excited to be back at Meridian Hills for my 7th summer. Throughout my time at MHCC I have been a lifeguard, swim coach and pool manager. I was unable to work at the club last summer due to my time teaching in New Zealand, but I am so excited to be back!
