    Presidents Message___________________________________________

Greetings, chapter members! Its that time of year again! As we transition into the summer months, its time to get ready for the annual 50th State Fair. With the sweet smellof cotton candy, buttery popcorn and the loco moco frying on the grill, you

know HCJs Food Booth will be in full swing. The Chapter will be managing a food booth and overseeing the

manpower over the course of five straight weeks.Come on down and help the chapter with their biggest fundraiser of the

year. Well need help with the booth setup, food preparation, cooking, cashier-ing and supervisorymanagement in general. This is a good chance for Jaycee members to work on their leadership skills inupervising the manpower during the event.

You will also get FREE admission to the fair, FREE meals and most importantlyFREEdom to have fu

nteracting with your fellow Jaycees in a busy, fast-paced environment. You will also learn valuablecooking skills as we prepare the plethora of offerings to the general public: learn the secret to TerrencesSignature Shoyu Chicken or Pauls Thrice-Fried Pork Cutlet.

In addition to cooking up creative culinary delights, the chapter will also be participating in the Dragon

Boat Races & Festival from June 19-20 at Ala Moana Beach Park. HCJ is looking for some strong paddle

______________________________________________________MDA SoireeBy Ramy So, Girl Reporter

Birds are singing and flowers are blooming. Ind

spring is here and its time for the Muscular Dystro

    Associations 11th Annual Spring Soiree.

It was held on Saturday, April 24th, at the Royal HawaHotel. As always for a worthy cause, the Honolulu Chin

Jaycees donated their time to help with the fundrais

    event.

Muscular dystrophy is a group of disorders that invo

muscle weaknesses and loss of muscle tissue that get wo

over time. Becker muscular dystrophy is the most comm

    form of the disorder.

It occurs in about 1 in 30,000 male births and causes progressive muscle weakness that usually beginhe legs. The Muscular Dystrophy Association helps fight against the disorder by providing applied scien

nvestigation, medical services and clinical care, and widespread public health education.

    The Soiree Food & Fun

The MDA Soiree was an evening that included signature

dishes from Hawaii top restaurants, refreshing elixirs, and

ively music & dancing. The Honolulu Chinese Jaycees were

ed by John Cummings and provided security for the event.

We ensured ticket holders enjoy the festivities without the

disturbance of drunken party crashers. We also directed lost

guests and guarded the auction items.

At the end of the night, HCJers were able to take off their

ecurity badge and let loose. As a reward for our assistance

o the event, we were able to enjoy the myriad of dishes and

    beverage offering.

Ultimately, HCJ was pleased to donate their services to a worthy cause and look forward to next yeMDA Soiree.

In my spare time I love being outdoors, doing activities such as hiking, kayaking, and camping. Overaenjoy both watching and playing sports, especially volleyball and basketball. Im really excited about theupcoming World Cup soccer tourney in South Africa, GOUSA! When not outdoors, I also enjoy playingMahjong, poker, and video games.

I feel that organizations like HCJ are a good avenue to give back and support the community. Events

he Healthy Baby Contest and Adopt-a-School are excellent programs to plug into to ( talk to Sarah Youngand Krystal Lee for more info).

I look forward to participating in community events such as these and others throughout the years tocome. I am also a member of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Commerce of Hawa

    and the Young Business Council.

In the Japanese Chamber of Commerce I am a member of the Art Committee, which plans one of themost prestigious art shows in Hawaii. These shows typically feature a well-known artist and have entries

rom hundreds of other local artists. If you are interested in the arts and would like to volunteer or helpsponsor the show, let me know.

Currently in my second year as a Chinese Junior Chamber member and one of the acting Vice

Its an excitinopportunity that allows me to participate in A LOT of activities and meet a lot of great people along the walook forward to the rest of my time as Vice President and hope to contribute significantly to the chamber
