Presidents Message___________________________________________
Greetings, chapter members!
On the 4th of this month we celebrated our nations independence. Itwas a day to relax and enjoy a good BBQ but also to be thankful of those
who have sacrificed their lives so that we may live in freedom. As Jaycees, we are mindful of the concept of sacrifice, having worked
hard last month with the 50th State Fair and the Dragon Boat Festival &
Races.
I want to say a BIG MAHALO to all the volunteers that came out during the weeks to support the grand
effort. A special shout-out goes to VP Anthony Sato for chairing this undertaking and ensuring things wenmoothly. Im especially proud of our efforts this year in that we were able to support this signature projecimultaneously with another signature projectthe Dragon Boat Festival!
HCJ fielded two teams this year in the races: Phoenix & Dragon. Both teams did well and advanced tohe quarterfinals in both the Chinese society and non-profit divisions. Thanks goes to VP Ken Sum for
organizing the teams, taking off his shirt and banging the drum to motivate all the racers that day.
So just like how we celebrated Independence Day, we celebrate the culmination of over a month of hard
work from the chapter. Nows the time to relax and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Come out on Saturday, uly 31 to our annual 50th State Fair Thank You Party/BBQ (see schedule for details).
HCJ will provide the main course and drinks. Bring a side dish to compliment and share. There will bea pool and entertainment for your enjoyment pleasure. See you all there!Cheers,
Ryan Ng
59th President, Developing Tomorrows LeadersToday.

__________________________Dragon Boat Races This years Dragon Boat Races happened at a verybusy time for our chapter. How else can you describe aweekend that included not only this great event, but the 50t
State Fair Food Booth, too? Despite being pulled in 2different directions, we pulled through and got the job done
both projects.Cause that
s how we roll!
The sun rose high and shone bright on the Saturdaymorning that saw the beginning of the great annual DragonBoat Races. With a full roster of teams, it took a lot of effortand coordination to run the heats. The able team of KrystaLee and Jon Cook anchored the Diamond Head Race Ten
while the Ewa Tent was one big HCJ Party, worked by Ana Che, Lily Fung, Steven Antonio, Yvette LeDenton Chun.
As always, the Announcer microphone in the 3rd, middle tent, was manned by MC Paul Da Mic Man
Chun, while Gerald Chung & David Dang held down the technical end. If those lineups aint All-Star teadont know who is.
The 2 days of Dragon Boat Races provided a number of memorable moments, but a few highlights:
Panda Travels flag catcher wearing Panda costume. Thats what they call a sweatsuit
HCJ once again fielding 2 Teams, put together by The Man With The Plan, Ken Sum
The All Amenities HCJ Tent, complete with couch, coffee table & ono food, put togethby, yup, Ken Sum
The Miss Chinatown Team, consisting of a lot of big dudes who probably never wore
tiara in their life.
A 2nd year of the great Dragon Boat Festival, including showings of Alvin & TheChipmunks 2 & Avatar on the big screen!
The 2nd day of racing went off without a hitch as well, capping off another year of inspiring competition andcommunity. One of the greatest benefits of the Dragon Boat
Races, though, is the chance for current HCJ members towork with, and get to know, our past members.
The opportunity to work with HCJers like Gordon Goo,Gifford & Kelfred Chang, Kalene Shim-Sakamoto and
even Paul Chun is always a good time for chapter spiritand morale. The uniting of these 2 parts of the same greatchapter can only mean good for all of us.
