Jesse

Baggett

is a ce-

ramic artist,

printmaker,

and painter.

Her work is

whimsical

and humor-

ous as she

celebrates

the biodiversity of the Oklahoma/Texas

area.

She creates ceramic sculptures of lo-

cal animals. She renders these figures

in a naturalistic manner and adds

simple mechanisms which give move-

mentand life to her creatures. In her

screenprints, she explores personalities

and relationships by creating anarra-

tive between oddly paired animals.

Her depiction of the animals are paint-

erly and vividly coloredwhich stand

out on a simple background.

Jesse received her BFA from Midwest-

ern State University. While at MSU she

was the 2014 Art Student of the year.

She currently teaches art at Hirschi

High School.

UPCOMING ART SHOW OPPORTUNITY

Texas Oklahoma Fair: From: Karen Murdock with T.O. Fair:Greetings! It is time to send out a reminder about the upcoming Texas-Oklahoma Fair Sept 12-16. We surely hope some of you will be thinking about bringing in some of the Creative Arts & Home Skills entries that help make our Fair so colorful and enjoyable. Perhaps you’ve wondered why we call our part of the Fair “Creative Arts & Home Skills” when it used to be called “Arts & Crafts.” Mainly because there is a specific section devoted to arts & crafts. And, overall, this Fair division is much, much more than arts & crafts. Entries are still $2/each, and will be accepted on the Monday be-fore the Fair opens. (Monday, Sept. 11, 2017) 8:30-6:30. Judging will begin at 7 p.m. so we must have some time to get them all in place by then. We surely hope to see you then!

The artwork is donated by the artist and their name is hidden and be-comes a mystery. Artwork is displayed in the NorthLight Gallery. Throughout the course of the exhibit, interested patrons may bid for artwork in silent auction. If a piece meets the highest silent auction bid possible it goes to live auction on the night of Mystery Art Fest. During the live auction patrons make a bid and solve the mystery: which artist created each piece of art. The funds from this event enhance our educational programs and help us to continue the promotion of the arts.

Deadline for application: September 6Gallery opens: September 29Mystery Art Fest: October 27

The work of The Alliance can be stated in very simple and basic terms – we exist to be of service to the artists and arts organizations in Wichita Falls so that their work is made visible to every person in our community and to those who visit. As we continue to build The Alli-ance, our informational website will expand as well. We will ultimately provide local, regional and nation-al information about the role that arts and culture play in building strong, creative communities.

The Alliance was formed in 2015 as a 501(c) 3 organization to respond to a citywide conversation about advancing the arts in Wichita Falls. We are proud to have a strong relationship with the City of Wichita Falls, and were recently desig-nated as the official arts agency for distributing municipal arts funds. Support for the arts in the city is not a new idea however. In fact, for almost 100 years, citizens of Wichita Falls have shared their time, resources and passion for creat-ing arts and cultural experiences. Many of the city’s arts organiza-tions started as all volunteer groups and through partnerships, shared vision and generous donors, the arts community today is poised to reach broader audiences and ap-proach new benchmarks for public engagement in the arts, cultural ex-pression and heritage preservation. The Alliance is proud to join and support these efforts.
