Self Defense in the Modern World $59 The ability to defend oneself, develop, and obtain strength and confidence are not secrets that take years to learn. When used properly, they are learned through training programs that develop awareness, as well as strength and self-confidence. This 12-hour comprehensive self-awareness class provides participants an opportunity to learn a system of practical, proven self-defense techniques using only what you have in your surroundings. Don't be a helpless victim of an attack. Learn to protect yourself. For ages 12 and up.

Three R's to Stress Management Workshop $49

This 2-hour workshop teaches participants the Three R's to Stress Management. Participants learn how to empower themselves to recognize their responses to life’s stressors and control their emo-tional, physical, and behavioral responses to obtain a higher satisfaction with life, work performance, and overall well-being. Three R's to Stress Management: Rethink – How we define stress in our lives. Reframe – How we perceive stressors in our lives. Relax – How we can bring calmness and clarity to our lives.

VIP’s Voter Registration Drive

Brief Overview of VIP: The VIP, Very Involved Persons’, Club is open to all Piedmont Technical College students with an interest in being active in the Newberry County community and college campus. VIP’s goals are to enhance students’ college experience at a satellite campus through community service and networking events.

Street Team:

The Street Team will get the word out! The street team will publicize the event to the community and campus. Prior to the event, Street Team members will collect posters, banners, “register to vote here” signs and etc. to distribute in “hot-spots” and key areas and to local residents in the surrounding community (dates & times to be established). During the day of the event, the Street Team holds directional street signs and direct people to the event location. The Street Team will also collect photographs and images from the event. Note: The Street Team will be needed prior to and during the day of the event.

Collections: The Collections Team will compile supplies needed during the voter registration drive. Supplies include, but are not lim-ited to, voter registration forms, envelopes, pens, clipboards, surveys and etc. The Collections Team will ensure materials are stocked at each station and ensure all forms are collected, compiled, and ready for delivery to the Voter Registration Office. Note: The Collections Team will be needed prior to and during the day of the event.

Community Registration:

During the event, the Community Registration Team will ensure participants sign-in as they arrive and maintain an accu-rate count of participants. The Collections Team will monitor participants’ arrival and departure, ensure they sign-in, and have them complete an evaluation survey before leaving the drive.

During the event, the Community Registration team will also assist participants in completing paper voter registration forms and electronic registration forms accurately. They will help participants, with writing and technology limitations, to complete their voter registration forms accurately and successfully. Note: Must be friendly, patient, and able to positively interact with diverse community members.

Logistics:

Prior to the start of event, the Logistics Team members will assist with set-up such as arranging tables, chairs, and table-cloths and related tasks. The Logistics Team will sort and unload voter registration schwag and arrange and distribute them as instructed. The Logistics team will safeguard registration schwag, forms, and all tables during the event. Note: Must be able to reasonably lift and carry items of various sizes.

Community Service Project: On September 7, 2016, VIP (Very Involved Persons) will facilitate a Voter Registration Drive at Pied-mont Technical College Newberry County Campus Center. A voter registration drive is an effort, often undertaken by a political campaign, political party, or other outside groups (partisan and non-partisan), that seeks to register to vote those who are eligible, but not registered. VIP is seeking volunteers to serve in one of the capacities below to ensure its Voter Registration Drive is a success! Volunteer times are from 11:00AM-2:00PM and 5:00PM-6:00PM. Prior to the event, all volunteers will undergo an orientation session to ensure the voting registration process and rules are under-stood and regulated during the drive.

Occupational Therapy Assistant Update

The OTA Program at Piedmont Technical College has received the American Occupational

Therapy Association (AOTA) Gold Level for Student Membership. AOTA is fully committed

to the success of our profession and reaching the 2017 Centennial Vision goals. AOTA sup-

port the students sitting in our OTA/OT classrooms today as the future of the OT profes-

sions success, and will live with and carry out the Vision. As our students prepare for their

careers and strive to reach their personal goals, it is important that they understand and

value the participation and support of being an AOTA member.

AOTA’s Student Membership Circle is a 3-tier plan that supports academic program

student membership initiatives— Gold Level, Silver Level, and Bronze Level. Piedmont

Technical College OTA program and Medical University of South Carolina were the only

two programs out of the 6 programs (5-OTA/ 1- OT programs) in our state that received

this award. The OTA program was recognized at the National AOTA Conference this past

April 7-9, 2016 in Chicago, IL.
