An exceptional creation begins with a well thought-out plan. Liberty Park, the product of years of careful planning, is a perfect example. The first layer of Liberty Park’s master plan is the natural beauty of Vestavia Hills. Displaying a picturesque tapestry of nature, the area feels like a vaca-tion destination for nature lovers. Nestled between rolling hills, with pristine lakes and a canopy of shade trees and dripping Wisteria, Liberty Park is your new hometown. “The community has been designed so you’ll feel at home right away,” says Shawn Arter-burn, Vice President of Development at Liberty Park. “Because we personalize every home, we know you’ll enjoy the experience, whether you are buying a move-in ready home or hand picking your favorite homesite for construction.” With a wide selection of 18 diverse home designs and limitless opportunity for personaliza-tion, Liberty Park’s homebuilders don’t just build houses – They turn dreams into reality and craft a one-of-a kind experience for our customers. “We have three galleries of home de-signs,” explains Arterburn of Liberty Park’s available floorpans. “I consider our homes as works of art.” The Founders’ Gallery reflects the areas mining heritage; The Carnegie Col-lection captures the details of Birmingham’s railroad history; The Reflection Line exhibits

F rom the President… Where, oh where is Fall? It’s September which brings football but we are still experiencing summer in the South! Even with that, your
Chamber has so much going on it’s hard to keep up!! Don’t miss our September luncheon where we will hear from Secretary of Com-merce Greg Canfield about the many economic development projects happen-ing in Alabama. This is an important topic to all of us due to the trickle down im-pact in our community from housing, to school and the many other services that are desired. The 2
nd Annual Helping Hands in the Hills is September 10
th. This will include our annual ‘Shredding
and e-Recycling event from 9:00 until 1:00 PM at the Wald Park Pool parking lot. This is a great way to dispose of not only unwanted electronics but also those old bank statements, etc. that need to be shredded. The shredding will be done on site. Be sure to check out the September Community News for details of items accepted. There will be a cost for destruction of monitors, crts and televi-sions but everything else is free. On September 11, we will again partner with the Cities of Homewood and Mountain Brook in a Patri-ot Day Remembrance Ceremony of September 11, 2001. This event is done on a rotating basis and will be hosted in Mountain Brook this year at the Crestline Village fire department beginning at 8:30 AM. This ceremony is presented by the Fire and Police Departments of these three communities as well as support from the Chambers. The program is always moving so try to attend if possible. We have several Ribbon Cuttings, Grand Openings this month in addition to the Disney Magic Sem-inar. We will celebrate the new office and location for TWO MEN and A TRUCK in the Patchwork Farms area as well as welcome Huntington Learning Center to Vestavia Hills located on Highway 31 in the Publix Shopping Center. Disney Magic seminar is scheduled for September 22
nd and will
be a great opportunity to learn more about how Disney has been so successful with customer ser-vice. See details for date and time elsewhere in this newsletter or on the Chamber website at www.vestaviahills.org In addition to the shredding and e-recycling event, we have volunteers from all over the city (including many students!) that will be helping our seniors and disabled residents with minor projects they need such as raking, bagging leaves, etc. as well as some public projects like putting out mulch, pine straw, pressure washing and other items. Look for the signs all around Vestavia Hills if you are out between 9 and Noon on the 10
th and take the opportunity to stop and thank the volun-
teers for keeping Vestavia Hills “A Life Above”.
Please stop by and see us as our doors are always open at the Chamber office. We would love to visit with you. Unity. Prosperity. Family.

the elegance of the surrounding waterway and the time we should take to reflect. We believe buying a home extends beyond its four brick walls. With that in mind, Liberty Park’s de-signers applied a great deal of focus on resident’s lifestyle. With a championship golf course, a sprawling sports park, and miles of sidewalks meandering through a landscape adorned by shim-mering lakes, our neighbors stay actively engaged. Hometown memories are often about friends and neighbors. Liberty Park residents stay socially connected by coming together at community markets and neighborhood events, countless summertime pool parties. Beyond the rich community experience and award winning schools Liberty Park offers, the neigh-borhood has an even brighter future. “We’re implementing our 2020 Vision Plan,, explains Arter-burn. “By 2020, we will have created a real, ‘live, work, and play’ environment in Liberty Park. Soon, the place our neighbors call home will include a bona fide town center with restaurants you’ll visit once or twice a week in close-knit environment where everyone knows your name.” Just as the original planners imagined, at Liberty Park, the kids grow up, but by then, the entire community has become family so they never leave Liberty Park – a hometown like no other.

small businesses grow, and raising the state’s profile in the film and entertainment industry. Under Canfield’s leadership AIDT, the state’s highly regarded job training agency, became a division of Commerce in 2012 as part of a strategy to streamline job creation and workforce skills development. Secretary Canfield’s Department of Commerce leads the effort to align economic development and education allies across Alabama to target industrial and advanced manufacturing projects, while increasing a focus on securing high-paying knowledge-based jobs in the life sciences, research, engineering, and design fields. Canfield graduated from Huffman High School in Birmingham and attended the University of Alabama and UAB, where he earned a finance degree in 1983. He began a career in sales with Purolator Corp., a Fortune 500 company. At Purolator, he served as Southeastern Regional Sales Manager before becoming Regional Administration Manager with responsibility for the region’s budgetary process. Canfield later served as a National Account Manager for Transus Freight Systems, overseeing territory from Alabama to New Jersey. Canfield entered the insurance and financial services field in 1990. Three years later, he opened his own busi-ness, marketing insurance services to businesses and individuals. He sold Canfield Insurance & Financial Ser-vices Inc. 15 years later in 2008 and joined J.H. Berry Insurance in Birmingham. As president of the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce, Canfield launched the organization’s Business De-velopment Committee, which promoted the community for commercial investment. In 2000, while serving as President of the Vestavia Hills City Council, he was instrumental in the development of Vestavia’s first long-range economic development and land use plan. Canfield was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2006, serving for nearly five years. He is the author of the Rolling Reserve Budget Act, which improved the education budget process in effort to establish reserves and prevent education proration. Canfield also served as chairman of the House’s Commerce & Small Business Committee. Trustee Spotlight Tony Renta-Renta Urban Land Design
Tony Renta, PLA ASLA, President of Renta Urban Land Design (RULD) located in Vestavia Hills where he continues his practice of Landscape Architecture in Birmingham going on 17 years. RULD is a Landscape Architecture design firm focusing on large scale commercial and municipal Master Planning design projects across the U.S. RULD is typically involved from project conception, often before buildings or land is purchased in order to study the current land uses, forms, and local codes in order to help guide the clients and the designs toward a successful outcome. RULD’s strengths lie in the understanding of the built environment
and the focus on being good collaborators with allied professionals, be it architects, engineers, or the local municipality where the project is to be built. RULD’s design principals lie in the root of being creative thinkers that focus on problem solving with the pri-mary goal of making the client’s project a reality. RULD often states they are the client’s translators and inter-preters and their job is to listen well to the client’s wants and needs and translate their vision into physical form, starting with drawings and leading to physical entities in the built environment, be it a new park, a new shopping center, or a new library. Tony grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and went to Auburn University where he earned his Bachelor’s de-gree as well as his Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture and a Master’s degree in Community Plan-ning. Tony is married to his high school sweetheart Julie and lives in Vestavia Hills where they raise their three children, Olivia, Haley, and Drake. In January 2011, Lauren Conklin Trim joined the family business with her fa-ther Charlie, after graduating from the University of Alabama with a degree in business and consumer marketing. Working for the family business was al-ways something she had wanted to pursue. When the opportunity finally pre-sented itself, Lauren jumped at it. Upon joining the Sentry team, Lauren wanted to focus on the growing demands of technology and implementing that into the day-to-day workflow. As CIO and Systems Manager for Sentry, Lauren strives to ensure efficient operations through soft-ware implementations and advances in technology. The gains in efficiency of operations has al-lowed Lauren and the Sentry team to develop an outstanding reputation in the community, while
building long lasting relationships based on quality customer service. In addition to her professional duties, Lauren is involved in many organizations and community activities. She is an avid supporter of animal rescue and currently serves as the Vice President of the Sugarbelle Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to “Keeping Pets and People Together”, through financial aid and other services. In addition to her duties with the foundation, Lauren supports and works with local shelters in helping to network and re-home animals. Today, the family business continues to grow and serve the great residents of Vestavia and surrounding the greater Bir-mingham areas, as they have done for the past 30 years. Sentry believes in treating their customers like family and go-ing the extra mile to ensure they are satisfied with not only the work performed, but with the technician that comes into their home. Lauren takes pride in being a Chamber Trustee and working for the family business. She enjoys traveling with her hus-band Jason and being outdoors with their three dogs, Peanut, Lola, and Lulu.
