    20-28 November 2011 - 1st International Conference on African & Arabian Geoparks.

    1st International Conference on African & Arabian Geoparks was held in El-Jadida, Morocco.

    During this conference Arabian Geoparks Network was launched aims to help the Arabian

    country in their effort to bring together various parties with an interest in fostering

    geoparks in the region. Previously, in 2009 during a meeting of the African Association of

    Women in Geoscience, African Geoparks Network was established. The creation of this new

    network gives testimony to the successful collaboration of these regional and global

    networks.

    8th December 2011 Langkawi Tourism Blueprint 2011-2015

    Malaysias Prime Minister, Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak recently has launced Langkawi Tourism

    Blueprint. In this blueprint among 14 initiative are Iconic Geopark, which will focusing indeveloping Geopark Discovery Center in Kilim Karst Geoforest Park and upgrading

    infrastructure at three geoforest parks, Machinchang Cambrian, Kilim Karst and Dayang

    Bunting Marble Geoforest Park. A comprehensive conservation plan for Langkawi will be

    develop and enforce with new Park Ranger. Public education will be targeted to local

    community and tourists.

    26-28 July 2011 Langkawi Geoparks Revalidation Mission 2011

    Two UNESCOs Geopark Experts, Dr Richard Watson from Marble Arch Geopark, Ireland and

    Dr Mahito Watanabe from Geological Survey of Japan has come to revalidate Langkawi

    Geopark. During this 3 days mission, both of the experts have been brought to several

    geosites and to meet with local community. At the last of the mission, during debriefing of

    validation documents, the Experts have comments on Langkawi Geoparks progress for the

    last four years. The result of the revalidation will be announced during 10th European

    Geoparks Conference in September 2011 in Gea Norvegica Geopark, Norway.

    16-20 September 2011 10th European Geoparks Conference, Gea Norvegica Geopark,

    Norway

    The 10th European Geoparks Conference is been held in Langesund at the southern coast of

    Norway. This conference is held annually at European Geoparks Networks member. During

    this conference, 9 new geoparks has been endorsed with several other existing member of

    Global Geoparks Network including Langkawi has been given green card. This means that

    another 4 years membership in the GGN. However, there are several comments from the

    Geopark Experts through UNESCO that Langkawi has to look into including conservation

    issues in Kilim Karst Geoforest Park and collaboration or engaging local community with thegeopark.
