Remember that it's not too long before we will have "company coming" as Gusher Days is around the corner. FROM THE MAYOR Hi Mayor Dickey here: Seems like I should be singing, "Spring is in the air." Every thing is blooming and the grass is growing and the pollen is flowing. The Phase I of the new water project will start sometime in April as well. David Lawler , Construction will be doing the water project and ASB Utility Construction will be doing the sewer project. CADDO PARISH FIRE DISTICT 7 CHIEF DANNY RICHARDSON The incident report for February 2012 is as follows FIRE 6 EMSlRescue 50 Hazardous Condition 1 Service Call 3 Good Intent 7 False 1 TOTAL 68

On April 21 the voters of Fire District Seven will be asked to approve the 10 year 10 mill

property tax renewal for hiring full time firefighters and paying salaries and related benefits together with providing an allowance for uniforms and equipment

This is a renewal of the property tax which allowed the Fire Department to hire full time firefighters for our area Last year alone Fire District Seven responded to 1302 calls While 309 of those calls were fire related 605 of the calls were e

EMSlRescue calls As the work progresses on 1-49

and the widening of Hwy 1 more of those types of calls are anticipated

The Board Chief Richardson and the firefighters have worked very hard to update equipment and provide the fire district with services that benefit our area We received a reduction in our PIAL rating this year which reduced the amount of your homeowners insurance We are working additionally to obtain new equipment which will further increase our chances of an additional change in the rating and lower your insurance even more

As our district was ravished by the wild fires during the summer last year our fire department saved every inhabited dwelling in their paths The dedication of each and every firefighter and volunteer was and still remains in each and every one of our minds We would have seen much more devastation had those individuals not had the equipment education and determination that our area was not going to lose any lives homes or schools to the fires Enough cannot be said about our firefighters

We ask that you go to the polls on April 21 and continue the services of Fire District Seven by approving the rededication of the 10 mill property tax If you have any questions or concerns please contact Chief Danny Richardson at 995-7114 We once again thank you for all the donations and support for our district

LAKEVIEW is a not-for-profit municipal cemetery begun over 35 years ago by Oil City residents for the benefit of the North Caddo Corridor Thorn Butenhoff Supervisor LA GREATER CADDO LAKE ASSOCIATION

The Greater Caddo Lake Association is starting another year Our membership renewal is in April We would like to invite everyone to join us for another year We will have mailers coming out soon Pleas take the time to fill it out and send it in and encourage others to do the same The lake looks good now but with the mild winter and no floods yet the Salvinia could be bad this summer

There is one thing we would like to address The running of Yo-Yos is getting out of hand It has gotten so bad there seems to not be enough tree limbs so people are screwing boards PVC and metal pipes to the trees This should not be done The worst thing is people are not taking the bait off when they are not running the Y 0-Yos and leaving them in the water to hook fish The fish are dead and hanging for the turtles to eat If this continues they will be outlawed just like Texas This has been a long tradition on Caddo and we would hate to see it ruined by a few individuals Please when you finish running the Yo-Yos for the weekend trip them and take the bait off Thanks Dan Fulghum La GCLA

MOORINGSPORT Mooringsport Methodist Church

Leviticus 1932 reminds us to Stand up in the presence of the aged show respect for the elderly and revere your God I am the LORD

Over the past few months we have lost several people that served our community faithfully Some served the town some served the churches some just helped people in general There is an old country song that goes Whos gonna fill their shoes Whos gonna stand that tall I wonder who is going to do it

In my small church and in my small town and on a greater scale in our country we are losing this nations greatest treasure Weare losing those that grew up hard worked with their hands looked

II

out for their neighbors understood the value of friends and family the value of a conversation or a well written letter

They were self sufficient grew their own food never needed a government bailout They put God Family and Country first in their decision making Church was not optional Tithing was not optional Helping others and protecting what was theirs was not optional

They didnt think that the public school system should raise their kids for them and then complain about it when they did If I got a whippin at school I was guaranteed to get another one when I got home Kids settled things with fists and not guns and knifes or in some other cowardly way

Everyday that passes we lose a little more of the history and the integrity of this country In my own little town only a handful of people do everything in the church and in the town There are also those that live their lives to complain about everything Instead of trying to be positive and talk about how wonderful our town is it is always negative I love our little town and hope and pray daily for its future

Mooringsport is a wonderful place to live It is the closest thing to Mayberry I have seen since Andy Griffith was still on TV

Unfortunately our town and this country it seems depends on a dying generation The average age of the doers is close to 70 years of agc I would guess if you backed up 40 years the average age of the doers then was 30 something

What has happened Why do people only do things if they know what is in it for them Jesus Christ was the greatest servant leader to ever walk this earth What most people fail to understand is that middoteach and everyone of us was built to serve others

You will never find fulfillment in your life until you realize the gift of giving Giving without expecting something in return Giving of your time and money to help othcrs Our parentsmiddot our grandparents and our great grandparents had it figured out - they knew what was important in this life

If you are blessed to have those relatives in your life that are over 70 years of age take some

time to spend with them while you still can You will be so glad that you did

I will close with this quote from Andy Rooney The best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person Have a blessed day Bro Robbin Haley

BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED Please join the ladies of the Mooringsport

United Methodist Church for their Annual Spring Luncheon The speaker is the inspirational Annette Fontuna Ladies Lunch will follow Admission is $1000 RSVP (318) 996-7439 Proceeds support the Mooringsport United Methodist Church Choir IDA GYPSY DAMARIS BOSTON March 2012

March was the first month in the calendar when one was established to record the religious festivals of the church It was named for the Roman god of war Mars (Martius) and based on the changes of the moon With the coming of spring the snow and ice would melt and wars could be waged again The sun was used to measure time more accurately and the Gregorian calendar was accepted by the colonies of Great Briton in 1762 with January as the first month of the year However many other countries still use the old lunar calendar and use March as the beginning of the year

In a list of important events in March you will find many Independence days indicating that many wars were fought that month Where there are many Irish people St Patricks Day is celebrated with parades and parties on March 17 and many people wear green that day It is New Years day for those using the lunar calendar Among the many celebrations are American Red Cross month National Reading Day March 2 in the United States World Water Day March 22 and spring

March birthstone is the Aquamarine or Bloodstone meaning courage Its flower is the Daffodil Have you noticed how beautiful old home sites are with scattered flowers although the houses may have been gone for fifty years

Spring means gardening time We see much tree damage from last summer and look for ways to use water carefully this year Food and water are two things people fight over Introduce a child to a magic world of the growing plant Container gardens are wonderful for small spaces We in the country can grow food so plant a little extra to share Being able to share is a joy Think of ways you might save rain water for your plants

Reading can be fun but children prefer the TV with all the color and action The TV becomes a baby sitter and children see programs they shouldnt Some time they need time to just use their imagination Books cover all sorts of subjects and introduce new ideas

After the heat and fires of last summer the world is green and inviting But we dont know what to expect Is winter really over The yards are full of blooming flowers The mayhaws I thought were dear are white A tiny white daisy as small as your little fingernail is blooming in the grass It also blooms in pink or purple but I have not seen those yet Many of the flowers are white like the wild onions Take a ride out in the country and enjoy the green fields and herds of cattle and appreciate our wonderful natural resources Gypsy Damaris Boston

MIRA History of Mira according to Caddo history

Settlers first came to this area in 1872 and called it Lorna

After the heat and fires of last summer the world is green and inviting But we dont know what to expect Is winter really over The yards are full of blooming flowers The mayhaws I thought were dear are white A tiny white daisy as small as your little fingernail is blooming in the grass It also blooms in pink or purple but I have not seen those yet Many of the flowers are white like the wild onions Take a ride out in the country and enjoy the green fields and herds of cattle and appreciate our wonderful natural resources Gypsy Damaris Boston

time to spend with them while you still can You will be so glad that you did

There were three stores in Mira at that time Hawthornes Store later became the post office when became postmaster The Lawton and the Dominick families operated the other two stores The Dominicks store built in 1918 was a commissary for the workers on their family plantation
