Can you believe it. I’m so happy the Prince finally got married and the coverage on t.v. of him will finally be over; and Osama bin Ladin has finally been taken care of after how many years we’ve been after him.

I didn’t know Lubbock had some points of interest that they do. Over the weekend my brothers and sisters met in Lub-bock with Mom to celebrate her birthday. I didn’t get to attend until Saturday evening because of work, Tommy was gone you know. They toured the tractor museum, seeing much of Paul Brooks’ (from Hart) collection, the windmill museum and a metal house, which everyone agreed it beat the aluminum can house in Houston which we

Will I remember the rest of my life where I was on Sun-day evening?

Yes.It’ll fit right up there with

where I was when the Sept. 11 attacks happened, where I was when the Challenger and later when the Discovery space shuttle disasters oc-curred. Like it or not, even the O.J. Simpson white Bron-co chase is up there when it comes to images burned in my brain.

But back to Sunday ... America finally caught up to Osama bin Laden. I’ll be the first one to admit I thought he was dead years ago, but America did not want to make the terrorist master-mind a martyr so it was never made public. I admit I was shocked at the news Sunday.

Ten years ... it took 10 years to find him. I think it is difficult for me and prob-ably most of you to realize and understand how rocky and difficult the terrain is in the mountains that separate Afghanistan and Pakistan. I realize it now. Even with our advanced technology, it took 10 years of that technology combined with years of re-search and espionage to get to him.

I remember President George W. Bush telling the nation in the weeks just after Sept. 11 that it would take years to crush the Taliban and bring its leaders to justice. He advised us not to lose hope. Ten years later we realize how correct he was.

No matter what your politi-cal affiliation is, credit also goes to President Obama for keeping pressure on our mili-tary to find bin Laden. Plus, this should make other ter-rorists in the world realize America is still serious about eliminating those who want to destroy our way of life.

What a testament Sunday night was to the dedication and unwavering commitment of our soldiers that fight to protect us from harm. Also, we always need to remem-ber those that lost their lives serving our country in any war, and right now especially those who have died fighting to bring bin Laden, and those that followed him, to justice.

This week ...-The Nazareth boys base-

ball team has a pair of games against West Texas High in round one of the state base-ball playoffs. Games are Wednesday, May 4 and Sat-urday, May 7 against West Texas High at West Texas A&M in Canyon.

-Friday the Dimmitt Li-ons club is having its annual Beef Appreciation Day with a cookout on the courthouse square from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Proceeds go to help Li-ons club programs. Show up and have lunch with the Li-ons.

-Graduation is coming up and The Castro County News will be publishing its annual graduation section. Call or come by the office to salute your graduating son or daughter with an ad in that section this year.

-Don’t forget a National Day of Prayer service is be-ing held today (Thursday) at noon on the courthouse square.

Early voting underway

Early voting for the City of Dimmitt City Council is underway at City Hall.

Election Day is May 14 with polls opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m. Earlky voting ends May 10. Early voters can vote from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Those running for three positions include Rich-ard Jackson, Deanna Wil-hite, Bob Murdock, Steve Buckley, Ed “Corky” Nel-son and Kenny Paxton.

The council canceled its meeting Monday due to not having a quorum. On the agenda included discuss-ing the Dimmitt Economic Development Corporation leasing land to city truck-ers needing a place to park their vehicles after the city approved new ordinances regulating trucks and farm equipment in residential zoned areas.

saw last year.Everyone had to write up a

story on our memories grow-ing up. I think my brothers might have spent some time in in-school suspension if that would have been allowed. But Mr. Slavik needed Keith my brother, Gary Gerber and Ralph Schulte to help keep busses running.

I joined them on Saturday about 5. We went out to eat and then listened to everyone’s stories, visited and remembered more we forgot to write down and ate and visited on Sunday. Girls stayed at Phyllis and Den-nis Morris’ and boys stayed at Monica Young’s.

May Crowning was held on Tuesday, May 3 at Holy Family Church. Kendra Huseman was the May Crowning Queen.

The youth had their final gathering for this school year with snacks and games.

First Communion was held at Sunday morning mass. Wasn’t here so I don’t know how many children were there. The chil-

dren’s choir sang for it.Don’t forget to buy a ticket

from the FFA kids, there are two trailers and a picnic table.

Tom and Raelene Hoelting just returned from a Pampered Chef incentive trip to Toron-to, Canada. They left a few days early, flying into Boston, rented a car and drove around the countryside viewing parts of the New England States - Maine, New Hampshire, Ver-mont, Rhode Island, Connecti-cut, and Massachusetts. They also ventured into the state of New York. On Thursday, they drove across Canada to Toron-to, about an eight hour trip.

While in Toronto, they toured Niagara Falls and a winery close by, had lunch in the 360 Revolving Restaurant at the top of the CN Tower, the second highest structure in the world, and toured the city. They really enjoyed their week long trip seeing the New England states and visiting Canada, but were glad to be back home in good ole Nazareth!
