SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY - TOMORROW Friday 10 August there is no school for students. Staff will be engaged in professional learning around Numeracy.
Teaching & Learning: NUMERACY The St Paul’s staff are constantly looking to evolve, improve and lift learning outcomes. We have high expectations. Nadia Abdebal, Numeracy Consultant, has been working with us for the past 18 months. We are achieving great things with Nadia. Nadia is part of the Australian Mathematics and Science Institute (AMSI) through the University of Melbourne CHOOSE MATHS project, and will lead our Professional learning day tomorrow. Information on the Choose Maths project can be found here: https://choosemaths.org.au/
BUILDING PROJECT Our newly refurbished classrooms and library eagerly await the arrival of our students. As at 10pm last night we have our Certificate of Occupancy so moving will commence shortly!
Other items to note regarding our refurbishment (the list is getting smaller!):

The whirlie birds on top of the roof above the four classrooms have been removed.
New wall pin carpet has been installed throughout.
New blinds have been installed throughout.
Existing classrooms tables, chairs and desks will need to be moved back into the refurbished classrooms.

School Community: VIP (Very Important Prep) SCHOOL READINESS SESSIONS Beginning Tuesday, 21 August at 2.00pm, and continuing EVERY Tuesday at 2.00pm until the end of Term 3. ALL kinder children are welcome! Parents of pre-schoolers are invited to register their child for a special ‘Very Important Prep’ school readiness activity program that will help prepare children for school in the year 2019. Children do not need to be enrolled at St Paul’s to attend these sessions, however they do need to be attending 4 year old kinder or equivalent childcare. The children will be introduced to the school curriculum through a range of basic educational activities that will be both enjoyable and stimulating.
Parent Input Series: CUP OF TEA TUESDAYS! Do you ever have that “I am not sure what is happening” feeling? Starting Tuesday 21 August, at the same time as our VIP School Readiness sessions, from 2.30pm I will be available to ANY parent that wishes to chat over a cuppa in a relaxed, informal fashion. I will set up for tea and coffee and be waiting in the new library space. Parents of children in the VIP Session are also invited. It is a chance for parents to provide input, ask questions, get clarification, or simply come inside and chat before school pick up.
School Community: FENCES BEING REBUILT You may have noticed the preparations for the timber fence being built between Fr Geoff’s residence - the Monbulk Parish House - and the school are underway. The igloo/hothouse that contains our Mini Monbulkers’ garden has been moved and is part of our Kitchen Gardens behind the hall.
NEW SCHOOL APP - PLEASE DOWNLOAD FLEXIBUZZ We have a new School App, and we are very 'Appy about it! FLEXIBUZZ is the name of the company hosting our new App. Instructions on how to download our app onto your phone/tablet have been emailed to all families and we will send a hard copy of these instructions home in due course. If you wish to download the app immediately, please go to your app store on your phone/tablet. Search 'Flexibuzz'. Download the Flexibuzz app. Once downloaded, open up the app and select 'sign up'. This will ask you to register with your name, email, etc. You will choose your own password. After you register, you will be asked to select your organisation. Search to find "St Paul's Primary School, Monbulk". We are under "Schools, Primary", we can also be seen under 'near me' if your phone/tablet has location services switched on. You will then be asked to select groups from which you will receive notifications. You can select all groups or just those that are relevant to you. We would be SO ‘APPY if you could please download our app to your phone or tablet. It is our goal to have ALL families registered on our new school app. Thanks!
SCHOOL DROP OFF Just a gentle reminder to please ensure cars do not park in the drop off zone. The drop off zone is for cars to pull in, say goodbye, and keep moving. For cars that wish to park, please use the middle section of the basketball court. Thanks.
NEW NEWSLETTER FORMAT - iNewsletter To compliment our contemporary new website - check it out at www.spmonbulk.catholic.edu.au - we are also updating our newsletter. In consultation with the School Advisory Board we have been discussing a new look as our current newsletter template is well overdue for an update. Currently we are negotiating with Michael at iNewsletter, and the intention is to soon begin using an electronic newsletter format. iNewsletter is mobile phone and tablet friendly, easy to update, will sync with our online systems and most importantly iNewsletter is easy to access 24/7. As a School Advisory Board we looked at iNewsletter, used by 250 schools, and we agreed that it meets our needs. We will keep our community updated on this process, but we look forward to a contemporary new newsletter to be released soon - tech savvy at St Paul’s!
We hope all our students and families enjoy their long weekend this weekend. Kind Regards,
Michael Watt Principal

New Archbishop of Melbourne~ Bishop Comensoli Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Peter Andrew Comensoli as the ninth Archbishop of Melbourne. Born in the Illawarra in 1964, Bishop Comensoli graduated from the University of Wollongong with a Bachelor of Commerce in economics, and worked in the banking sector before switching to theology. In 1986, he entered St Patrick’s Seminary, Manly, and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Wollon-gong in 1992. Bishop Comensoli served as Chancellor of the Diocese of Wollongong for six years. Bishop Comensoli was appointed an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Sydney in 2011, becoming Australia’s youngest bishop. In 2014, Bishop Comensoli served as the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Sydney for nine months until Archbishop Fisher’s installation as Archbishop of Sydney. That same year, Bishop Comensoli was appointed the third Bishop of Broken Bay. In addition to his Bachelor of Commerce, Bishop Comensoli holds a Bachelor of Theology and a Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the Catholic Institute of Sydney, a Licentiate in Sacred Theology in moral theology from the Accademia Alfonsiana in Rome, a Master of Letters in Moral Philosophy from the University of St Andrews in Scotland and a Doctorate of Philosophy in theological ethics from Edinburgh University. The new Archbishop has had a significant interest in the schools of his current diocese, which has been significantly affected by the Turnbull Government’s funding reforms.
‘Come, Holy Spirit fill the hearts of your faithful,
and kindle in them the fire of your love.’

New Child Care Package From 2 July 2018
The Child Care Rebate and Child Care Benefit will be replaced by a single
Child Care Subsidy (CCS)
If you haven’t already done so, please complete a Child Care Subsidy assessment online to check
your eligibility and entitlement to CCS. In order to do this you need to sign into your Centrelink
online account through myGov:
Select Complete your Child Care Subsidy assessment task.
Work through the steps to give Centrelink new information and confirm your current details.
Please read: What you need to do to get Child Care Subsidy if you currently get a child care
payment.
Under the new arrangements, there will be more support for more Australian families, with most
lower and middle-income families eligible to receive a higher subsidy than they do now.
Families earning less than $185,710 will have no annual subsidy cap on the amount of
child care they can claim;
While those earning over $185,710 and under $350,000 will benefit from an increase in the
current cap of $7,613 to $10,000 per child, per year.
The level of Child Care Subsidy that families may be entitled to will depend on the family’s combined
income, the activity level of both parents, or the sole parent.
