LAKE OSWEGO – Celebrate Lake Oswego Read’s 2011 novel, Cutting for Stone, with a special fair trade market featuring African goods and wares! The event, titled “Celebrate Africa,” will be hosted by Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation. Celebrate Africa will be held on Saturday, February 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West End Building, 4101 Kruse Way. Stop by to shop for unique treasures at this free fair trade market. There will be African jewelry, handbags, baskets, stationary, artwork, décor, and much more! Merchants include Africa Bridge, Aita Designs, Ancient Ways, Bead for Life, Global Sistergoods, Itafari Foundation, Tariro: Hope and Health for Zimbabwe’s Orphans, Tuareg Jewelry, WaterAfrica, and the Zimbabwe Artists Project. Additionally, the Pacific NW Rwandan Association will be selling tasty Rwanda eats. Be sure to join them for some exceptional treats! Guests will also be treated to cool rhythms and beats. The entertainment will begin with a live performance from Mhofu Marimba, a marimba band from the Tigard-Tualatin School District. Visitors will also enjoy the music of West African Drummer and Dancer, Chata Addy. Chata is the nephew of celebrated African musician, Obo Addy. The afternoon will conclude with music from The Boka Boys, an upbeat and irresistibly fun Marimba band. These electrifying bands will definitely bring the crowd to their feet!
