PROJECT NEWSLETTER Issue No. l - Fall 2014
Project Background
The Interstate 69 (1-69) corridor is an integral part of Indiana's state highway system. This corridor is being upgraded to improve transportation options and safety features for travelers using this route between Evansville and Indianapolis. This corridor was subdivided into multiple sections to allow for further development and construction. 1-69 Corridor Sections 1, 2 and 3 are now open to traffic and construction of Section 4 is well underway.
Specific to Section 5 of the 1-69 corridor, the Indiana Finance Authority (IFA), selected the 1-69 Development Partners (1-69 DP) and lsolux Corsan USA, a private development team, to design, construct and maintain this section of 1-69 that stretches from the City of Bloomington in Monroe County to just south of the City of Martinsville in Morgan County. This innovated funding delivery approach will be paid for by private-equity bonds.
The improvements mainly involves widening, upgrading, and rehabbing 21 miles of the existing, 4-lane State Road 37 (SR37) to interstate standards including construction of new grade separated interchanges, cross road overpasses, new access roads, landscaping and aesthetic features, and roadway lighting.
