NOBLEFORD CENTENNIAL EVENTS CONTINUE:

Dinner followed by FIREWORKS October 19, 2018

The fireworks presented by Fireworks Spectaculars LTD scheduled for August 11 has been postponed until 7:30 pm October 19, 2018 following the Annual Nobleford Agricultural Society Harvest Supper at the Nobleford School at 6:00 pm, at the

adjacent Town Soccer/ baseball fields. This amazing “100 years of growing together” fireworks display will be made possible with the volunteer fundraising efforts of Denise Hofman, Marty Atkinson and Wes Hofman, and financial donations from:

Gold Sponsors: *River Rocks. *Nobleford Fire Fighter Society

Mayor’s Message

Celebrations continue in our 2018 Centennial with the upcoming

events: the Fire Fighters Society Wing fry & Auction on Oct 13

and the Nobleford Agricultural Society harvest dinner followed

by the Centennial FIREWORKS display Oct 19.

Nobleford welcomes the recent opening of the IDA Pharmacy on

King Street and the new Alberta Treasury Branch located by the

car wash. Residential lots are selling quickly in both the Town

owned subdivision in North Nobleford and the Outlook

subdivision east of Nobleford. The paving of the Nobleford

School parking lots certainly enhanced the 8 million dollar

School modernization project that is near completion. Our new

570 m3 treated water reservoir tank project is well underway and

we expect it to be operational late this fall. The 3 raw water

reservoirs are 100% full and collectively contain

approximately 300,000 m3. During the winter we use about 50

m3 per day. Thank you for your comments made at the

September Bylaw hearings. Following the hearings Council made

amendments to the 1st reading on the proposed Cannabis LUB

bylaw and passed the revised bylaw prohibiting Cannabis retail

stores within a 100 meter buffer from Hospitals, Schools, Parks,

Museums, and Churches. Safety concerns are escalating and

Nobleford Mayor and CAO will be meeting with Alberta

Transportation seeking a reduction in the speed limit on Highway

#519 from the Traffic Circle to Outlook acres. Nobleford and

Lethbridge County are considering a joint 2019 project to overlay

(pave) the county gravel road extending north of Highway

Avenue. The 30 km zone on Highway Avenue remains a concern,

this stretch of road from Rubie Street north to Kipp Street is 30

km 24/7 – Please obey the signs.

month of new beginnings in the life of the church when church programs and activities begin a new season. Take a moment out of your busy

schedules and take in the beautiful blends of the scarlet, russets and yellow colors of the surrounding landscape. The God of creation makes

this all possible from year to year. “For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations” –

Ps. 100:5

* September is the month of “new beginnings” of church programs. On Sunday, Sept. 2nd new office bearers were installed and on Sept. 9th

those who will “take on” leadership roles in the various programs within the church were challenged to use their skills and talents to God’s

glory Many thanks to all who have volunteered their time to teach the various programs provided.. – “I can do everything through Him who

gives me strength” – Phil 4:13

* The GEMS began their fall program with a “walk” through the Corn Maze while the CADETS will hold their first meeting on Oct. 1st.

COFFEE BREAK and STORY HOUR begin a new season on Oct. 10th, Time: 10:00-11:30 a.m. Women from the community and

surrounding area are invited to attend. Story Hour is available for children ages 3-5. Nursery is provided for toddlers.

* DVBS was a great success this year. Many thanks to the coordinators and volunteers who were involved in leading the program.

Thank you to the many children who attended and presented a “very enthusiastic” program to “close out” the week.

* Congratulations to Colin Barthel and Layne Wever who were united in marriage on Sept. 15th. God’s richest blessing to you as you begin a

new chapter in your lives.

Congratulations also to Kyle Konynenbelt and Tracy Jans who will exchange marriage vows on Oct. 20 th. “Through love serve one

another” – Gal. 5:13

* Sincere condolences are extended to Delbert and Lucy Kooy and extended family with the passing of Lucy’s father, Henry Dronkelaar.

“In times of trial God is there to give us strength”.

* On Sun. Oct 8th the church will observe Thanksgiving Day with a worship service at 10 a.m. to give thanks for the many blessings we dai-

ly receive from our heavenly Father – for family and friends, for our homes, for the bounties of the land, for safety in our work and travels

and for the many freedoms we can still enjoy in this great land we call “CANADA”.

We extend a warm welcome to everyone in the community to join us in worship each Sunday.

Shalom!!!

Hi from the museum. Fall is with us now with all its beautiful colors. So now to catch up on extra work at the museum. The park looks won-

derful since all the blades got painted. We still have three small projects to do. We had a wonderful turn out during the 100 year celebration.

We had well over 200 people visit the museum. We would also like to thank the spinners and knitters who put on the display outside the mu-

seum. We are always looking for new members. So please think about joining the museum. We all think it is very important to keep our his-

tories close at hand. And don’t forget that we have the history book at the museum for sale.

Centennial Dinner Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for this day and the 100 years that have brought us together for this weekend of celebration. We thank you for the

families that came before us with a vision for this land. Give us a vision for our community that will lead us into our next 100 years. Thank you for the families, cultures, and faiths that made Nobleford what it is today. Thank you for the industries, past and present, that have shaped our local economy. Lord, look upon our families and businesses. Bless them in their endeavours and help us as members of this community to do what we can to support them. Thank you for our town council and staff. Guide them in their service to this community with wisdom, honesty, and integrity. Thank you for the commitment these individuals have made to our town and its governance. And Lord tonight we especially want to recognize the many volunteers in our community who have worked so hard to make this weekend enjoyable for everyone. While facing setbacks at times in their planning, we thank you Lord for helping our volunteers to rise above the problems and find a solu-tion. Thank you for their commitment to the societies they are a part of and for the many hours they have dedicated to our community. Father, thank you for the delicious meal we are about to enjoy. Bless the ladies and gentlemen from Providence Christian School who have prepared the meal. We ask that you would bless this food to our bodies that we may be strengthened by it and ready to serve you, Lord as you desire. And lastly, Lord, whether we live near or far, be with us all as we return to our homes – grateful for the old friends we met and the new friends we made. Grant us a safe journey. We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Garbage and Recycling for Nobleford. Nobleford spends over $100,000 each year on waste management. Your $13 per month utility payments covers the cost.

Nobleford offers curb side garbage pickup to nearly 500 properties each Monday morning using our 2 compactor style trucks.

This garbage is taken to the Lethbridge Regional Waste Management Services Commission (LRWMSC) waste transfer site on

North Railway Avenue. The Commission is made up of 3 Partners: Nobleford, Picture Butte and Lethbridge County with 4 sites

in Nobleford, Picture Bute, Coaldale and Iron Springs. The Nobleford site is where our recycling takes place. As a Nobleford

resident you are allowed access to this site at no charge for most disposals. There are fees for unusual or large loads. You may

take all your recyclables to this site and place them in the appropriate bin at no charge: Cardboards, plastics, glass, metals, tires

and paints with more being considered. You can haul your grass clippings and light garden compost to the Town of Nobleford

compost side on north Highway Avenue, PLEASE do not dump tree branches here. Nobleford offers you use of the dump truck

for tree branch disposal at a cost of $40 per load. Please book the truck through the Town office and we will leave the truck at

your property, you load it and then we haul it away for $40. The $40 fee is waived for boulevard tree clean up. The cost to

dispose of garbage, including recyclables, continues to rise significantly. In order to curb the cost to you, it is up to you to re-

duce waste. Be mindful of your purchases and avoid packaging where ever possible. Nobleford and the LRWMSC will work to-

ward solutions to best deal with waste to continue to offer you services and curb costs to you. Those few people that choose to

abuse the privilege of waste disposal options cost us all money, time and compromise our environment in which we all live.

Less garbage is a solution.

Property with unpaid taxes may be placed in Tax recovery and property sold by Municipality. -Unpaid utility account may result in your water service being turned off. -Outstanding utility, service, accounts may be trans-ferred to property taxation. If you find yourself unable to pay your accounts on time, make arrangements to meet with Town CAO to review your options. 2018 Nobleford Budget expenditure is 2.8 million dollars. $507,593 will be collected in property taxation. $358,889 will paid to the Province for School tax, $18,750 to Seniors Housing. $71,534 will be kept by Town $58,420 in residential taxes (0.5 mil rate) was cancelled for 2018 centennial year).

How does the Town provide Fire and Rescue services. The Town of Nobleford Governing Council choses the level of Emergency Services in Nobleford and directs the CAO to manage and carry out that directive. The Town has a volunteer fire department that is the operation component. Volunteers receive an honorarium costing approximately $30,000 per year. Tax payer funding for the annual $120,000 to $500,000 cost of capital, equipment and delivery of service, is through an agreement between the Town and Lethbridge County. The County has no department of their own and has requested that Nobleford pro-vide service to them. The Nobleford Fire Fighter Society also fundraises and contributes funds to the Town that are used for Emergency Service delivery. The key to all this is in the volunteerism of those men and women that are on the front lines to save lives and protect property. THANK YOU; Volunteers and Community for support.

With autumn days upon us, it is with pride and appreciation the Society reflects on its involvement in celebrating

Nobleford’s Centennial year. Appreciation for the support received from the Town of Nobleford, local businesses,

Individuals and volunteers that helped us create “Legacy Lane” in Centennial Park. The year “2018” will come and go but

the long-lasting silhouettes and their stories will keep some of the history of Nobleford alive for future generations to enjoy

and reflect upon.

“Family Night in Centennial Park” and the dedication of “Legacy Lane” hosted on August 10th, was one of the hottest days

of the summer! The heat caused a slow start to the evening, but when families did arrive, over 60 children were treated to

nine games and activities, free glitter tattoos, Freezies, water bottles, bug spray and more. Many enjoyed playing in the

park on the vintage and newer playground equipment. Greetings were conveyed by Deputy Mayor Don Holinaty and

Society President Barb Hofman during the dedication of “Legacy Lane” which gave insight as to how the success of the

project unfolded. When the sun set and the temperature cooled to about 28C, after cartoon short subjects for the young

children, the movie “A Night in the Museum – Secret of the Tomb” was enjoyed by over 170 people. Free concession of

pop, juice boxes, popcorn, chips and crackers nicely complimented the evening’s entertainment.

The Society would like to thank the following who enabled the enjoyment of the evening:

-The Town of Nobleford and its Public Works Staff; Logan, Cody, Donovan and Joe, for getting the park ready and

also for delivering tables, chairs and picnic tables

- Gwen Johnson & Pat Warmink for filling popcorn bags, and Gwen for supervising the Ball Drop Game

- FCSS’s Brenda Rathwell and Amanda, for supplying and supervising 3 kids games; Noodle lawn croquet, Create-a-wall, and

rock painting

- Amanda Hofman for applying the glitter tattoos

- Jackie Oudshoorn and her helpers Andrew and Allen for supervising: Bean bag toss, the inflatable soccer game and Noodle

croquet

- Pete & Debby Pelley for outstanding management of the concession stand, as well as delivery of ice and water

- Summer Fun staff, Allison and Sheila for supervising games and assisting with the Tattoos

- Lance Feenstra for helping with checkers and the parachute game

- Kirk for helping set up the lights and sound system for Movie Night

- Dave Hofman, for technical support and making the silhouettes light up so beautifully

- Clint Gellrich for delivering pop and juice to the Park
