2. Groundwork for two new reactors at Kudankulam power
plant nears completion
3. Chennai in red zone as AQI tops 300
Pollution levels in the city peaked on Friday with three
continuous air quality monitoring stations recording over
300 microgram/cubic metre PM2.5 levels.
This means the city is in the red zone in the air quality
index (AQI).
The average of PM2.5 particles collected in a cubic metre
space at Manali was 342, at Alandur 301 and at Velachery
307.
4. Sluice gates of Gomukhi dam opened
Law Minister C. Ve. Shanmugam on Friday opened the
sluices of the Gomukhi dam at the foot of the Kalvarayan
Hills near Kallakurichi to release water for irrigation.
5. Heritage Park to come up in Tiruchi

The corporation has started establishing a heritage park
on Butterworth Road near Rockfort in the city. The park,
to come up in an area of 1.27 acres, will project heritage
and history of the city.
The park will boast of a stone-carved arch entrance,
amphitheatre, landscaping and fountains, pedestrian
walkways, children‟s play area as is being set up under
the Smart City Mission at a cost of Rs. 4 crores.
6. The National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi (NIT-T) will
shortly open new computer centre, named „Third i.‟

8. Bhavani Sagar Reservoir nears full capacity
On Friday morning, the storage was 32.598 thousand
million cubic feet, against the capacity of 32.800 tmc ft
The water level at the Bhavani Sagar Reservoir is inching
closer to the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 105 feet.
9. Tamil to get 9,000 new words. The State government has
issued a government order to include 9,000 new words to
Tamil vocabulary. Currently, the language has over 4.7
lakh unique words.

8. Maternal death rate declining: report
India‟s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has seen a
decline from 130 per 1 lakh live births in 2014-2016 to
122 per 1 lakh live births in 2015-2017.
A decline of 8 points (6.2%) was observed during this
period, according to the latest Sample Registration
System (SRS) 2015-2017 bulletin for MMR released on
Thursday.
9. Officials in Odisha are keeping a close watch on the
movement of the severe cyclonic storm „Bulbul‟.
“The very severe cyclonic storm was moving at a
speed of 17 km per hour. It is expected that the storm
would make landfall near the Sundarbans by

1. Mauritius elects incumbent PM for five-year term,.
Mauritius' ruling Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) has
won more than half of parliamentary seats, securing
incumbent Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth a
five-year term, interim election results showed on Friday.
Jugnauth, 57, became prime minister in 2017 when his
father stepped down from the post, and has already
introduced a minimum wage to try and improve wealth
distribution.
