A Citroën Racing Trophy has been launched in the Czech Republic, along the same lines as the championship initially begun in France and subsequently rolled out in other countries (Portugal, Belgium, UK, etc.) Citroën Czech Republic communications manager Martina Bedrnova explains the decision to launch this new championship: «Until

now, there were no manufacturer-organised championships in the Czech Republic. We are therefore innovating with the launch of the Citroën Racing Trophy CZ. The Trophy

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Citroën causes a stir in the Czech Republic

has been warmly welcomed by press and competitors alike: rallying is very popular in our country and this new series, which features identical cars, with rigorous checks and finishing prizes at each round, has caused quite a stir. It will bring together the teams that already compete with a C2-R2 MAX, as well those with an R2 who want to upgrade their car. We have based our championship on the structure of the existing Trophies. In terms of organisation, we will work with Martin Prokop’s organisation, Jipocar Racing, to handle the sporting side, while we will look after the communications activities. Our championship will comprise five rounds and the first of these will feature between five and seven competitors, which is a positive start. They will compete in the A6/A7 class which excludes Super 1600 machines. The best drivers in the Trophy CZ should be capable of finishing in the top-ten.» The new Trophy kicked off on May 22nd/23rd with the Rallye Cesky Krumlov.

Since starting his career as a driver with a Simca Rallye 2, Alexis Avril followed an eclectic career path before arriving at Citroen, where he has held the position of Customer Competition Technical Manager since 2005.

«My Dad did some racing and he stayed in this in-dustry,» explains 38-year-old, Ardennes-based Alexis Avril when asked who got him interested

in motor sport. «I’ve always been interested in mechanical things and cars in particular. I started in bikes, though, and my father nearly disowned me. He only agreed to help me when I began hillclimbing with a Simca Rallye 2.» Overwhelmed by work, Alexis subsequently hung up his boots. «I had an unusual background because I started off doing a technology diploma in mechanical engineering. After working in industry, I did more engineering training, focused primarily on motor sport. And that’s all I’ve done since, initially with WR where we competed at Le Mans three times between 1994 and 1997. After working as a tyre changer, I moved on to designing parts back at base, then became a race engineer. I then joined SNBE in 1997.» During his time with SNBE,

We won the Junior title with Sébastien Loeb in the Saxo… they were great times. In 2002, I split my time between the Super 1600 car and the debut of the WRC car with Thomas Radström and Jésus Puras. I then worked with Colin McRae in 2003 and Carlos Sainz in 2004. They were two unforgettable years. I came back to the Customer Competition Department in 2005, where I’m responsible for technical matters. It involves specifying, designing and signing off the products we sell. In 2005, we won the Junior World Championship with Dani Sordo, and the European Championship with Simon Jean-Joseph in 2007. In parallel, since 2005, we’ve been working with the FIA on the introduction of Group R, which came into force in January 2008 and in which we competed initially with the C2-R2, and now with the C2-R2 MAX. We’re currently working on some interesting products for the future. We’re not short of ideas or projects…» he concludes with enthusiasm, still in love with his job.

To do this, they must be removed from the car and sent alone (without struts, suspension housings or springs) to Citroën Racing’s Versailles headquarters. Citroën Racing will complete the necessary work before returning them to the owner.

Citroën C2-R2 MAX Citroën Racing has extended its range of competition vehicles with the addition of a specially-priced C2-R2 MAX. «In order to offer a car at the most competitive price possible,» explains the Citroën Racing Boutique’s Sales Manager Benoît Picard. «We’re building and selling a car that does not include certain options such as the lightweight doors or the quick-change tailgate panel. Customers will consequently be able to upgrade their C2-R2 MAX as they see fit, particularly in terms of interior equipment. The car will still benefit from Citroën Racing’s high quality build and will retain the essential character of the C2-R2 MAX, but all for a pre-tax price of €58,500.»
