    CONTENTS

  • Dear friends and well-wishers, Greetings from Laxmi!

The last year has been a truly eventful one, in which Laxmi has gone on from strength to strength.

We have upgraded our instrumentation to incorporate the most sophisticated, and new consultants have joined us to augment our ability to tackle the most complex eye diseases.

On the academic front, our consultants have been instrumental in organising numerous coninuing medical education (CME) programmes, refresher course, and training events for practising ophthalmologists and resident doctors. We have been made proud by our own residents, especially Dr Nusrat Bukhari, who secured the Gold Medal in ophthalmology at the DOMS examinations. Our team of fellows burnt the midnight oil and were amply rewarded at the All India Ophthalmology Society (AIOS) conference in Kolkata, with numerous paper and posterpresentations. Hands-on training

in cataract surgery continues with renewed vigour, and a record number of trainees made the year memorable.

Community outreach at Laxmi Charitable Trust has reached an all-time high, with wonderful support from numerous donors. Our students at the Laxmi College of Optometry continue to excel in their examinations, and are promptly placed in some of the most sough-after positions.

Its not all work and no play at Laxmi! As per tradition, we celebrated our Foundation Day in April, and unearthed a treasure trove of talent from within our own staff.

Most importantly, Laxmi has changed! We have metamorphosed into something new, with a new logo, and a new look. However somethings will never change – namely, our emphasis on ethics, excellence, and patient care.

    Happy reading.Dr Suhas HaldipurkarMedical Director
