The true strength of an organisation can be judged through its ability to confront and deal with critical situations.

Our group has had a very difficult August as a result of the severe flooding in the town of Chrastava in the Czech Republic, where on the night of 6 August torrential rain led to much of the town being destroyed and unfor-tunately several lives were also lost.

Our factory, located in the lower part of the town, was almost converted into a drainage point for the rain water and suffered a general flooding, with the water and mud level inside the factory reaching over one metre.

The damage to the facilities was so great that, after first estimation, it looked like it would be impossible to resume production within two weeks.

GRUPO ANTOLIN-BOHEMIA factory is the largest within the Group for producing headliners and serves a wide range of clients. From this fac-tory, headliners are supplied to VW, SKODA, PSA, AUDI, TOYOTA, BMW, VOLVO, RENAULT…

Given the seriousness of the situation, a crisis committee was immediately established to deal with all possible issues related to the support and trans-fer of production to other units within the Group, plans to restore GRUPO ANTOLIN-BOHEMIA to working order and emergency measures against the possibility of further flooding (more likely as a result of the damage to the drainage systems in the factory and industrial area).

The tireless work of our teams throughout Europe and the great under-standing and help of the clients themselves have allowed us to achieve what initially seemed impossible, with production restarting on Thursday 12 August and, more importantly, the return of the production lines to an almost normal schedule the following week.

I would like to take this opportunity to express the gratitude and admira-tion of the Group’s Senior Management for everyone who has played a part in producing this small miracle, delaying their holidays and working more than 18 hours a day.

I would also like to congratulate the management team which has shown itself up to the challenge of coordinating the actions of hundreds of people sent by the clients, companies that manufacture the flood-damaged ma-chines, specialist cleaning services as well as emergency situation control teams, and of encouraging our entire organisation to get the best out of itself in response to an event which if it had not been dealt with so effectively could have brought the European car industry to a standstill for several days.

Lastly, I would also like to thank our clients for their invaluable help, un-derstanding the scale of the catastrophe; they have sent as much help as possible to assist with restoring the twelve production lines in the factory in record time.

In conclusion, it only remains to say that the efficiency demonstrated in dealing with the problems caused by this situation, which was out of our control, has shown the great strength of our organisation and has rein-forced the trust that our clients have in our business. w

The summer season comes to an end and there are lots of things we would like to tell you since our last Newsletter.

The first, that makes proud all of us, is the decoration with the Gold Med-al for Merit in Work of José Antolin. This is a personal recognition to our President which he wants to extend to all of us who are a part of Grupo Antolin.

Moreover, in this edition we interview the Chief Officer of the Overhead Business Unit, Jesús Pascual, who tells us about his extensive experience in the company as well as the future plans of the Unit that he manages.

From the IT Department they explain us the changes and developments that are being made to unify commu-nications, in order to improve these services and obtain significant savings for the Group.

Knowing means competing with an advantage, this is the phrase with which we open the section dedicated to Knowledge Management. In this article we explain how this strategic action line is helping us to manage, in an efficient and effective way, our key knowledge (competences).

The clients keep on counting on us through awarding with new projects, such as window regulators for Re-nault, or recognitions as in the case of Toyota and Mahindra in India.

These topics and much more, as the new Policy and Strategy, Occupation-al Health&Safety in GA-Silao, recov-ery of GA-Bohemia after the floods in the centre of Europe, the transfer to new offices of GA-France… are wait-ing for you in the next pages. w

Interview with the Chief Officer of the

Overhead System Business Unit

interview

This interview will provide us with more details about the Overhead System Business

Unit, as explained by its Chief Officer, Jesús Pascual Santos. In 2009, the Overhead Sys-

tem accounted for 45.6% of our company’s sales (excluding inter-group), and Grupo

Antolin is world leader in the manufacture of headliners

News Grupo Antolin10 · Autumn 2010

You have been working for the company for many years. How has your professional career progressed within Grupo Antolin?

I started working for Grupo Antolin 25 years ago. Until 2005, all my experience was in the industrial area. My first few years were spent in different production areas within Grupo Antolin-Dapsa, before moving on to Grupo Antolin-IGA as an assistant to the Management, from where I was appointed Plant Manager at Grupo Antolin-Aragusa, Silao, IGA and Eurotrim.

In 2002 I joined the Industrial Board as manager for the plants on the Iberian Peninsula. In 2005 I took over the man-agement of the Overhead System Department and with the latest organisational change in June 2009 I was appointed Chief Officer of the Overhead System Business Unit.

What products are currently included in the Overhead System?

The products making up the business unit are: the head-liners themselves, the sound dampening system stuck to the bodywork of the car, the modularity and sequencing of overhead systems in JIT centres, panoramic solutions and sunvisors.

We could say that it includes everything that the customer considers to be as overhead system, with the exception of the consoles which are managed by the Door Function Business Unit because they are closer to its plastic injection technology.

What are the current challenges that the unit has to face?

The main challenge for this unit, and for almost the en-tire automotive industry, is competitiveness. This challenge, which could seem very generic, encompasses many other challenges, such as: being the best in Quality, customer ser-vice and generating technological ideas leading to benefits for the customers, lower costs or an increase in perceived quality.

Customers are using increasingly diverse strate-gies. How does this diversity affect the products of your unit? How do you manage this?

It is true that our customers have different product strategies (panoramic windscreens or not, simple or very complex sun-visors, large consoles, panoramic ceilings, etc.) and they also have different strategies in perceived quality for factors such as acoustics, rigidity, weight, the customisation of the vehicle…

To manage this variety of strategies we need two areas of the company, commercial and technical, to be constantly and actively listening to the customer, so that they can provide our innovation and advanced engineering func-tions with sufficient information for them to target their work on the right areas. All of our customers are impor-tant and we have to work on areas that satisfy the needs of each of them.

What strategy are you using to meet these chal-lenges?

The strategy used is that set out in the Horizon 2010/2014 strategic plan, based on product-process aspects, new products and the rationalisation of our installed capacity.

The product-process section includes aspects such as im-proving perceived quality (fundamentally in areas such as rigidity and acoustics), the optimisation and rationalisation of the sunvisor product, the strengthening of the panoramic system, and the development of our own motor and solar protection devices.

In terms of new products, we are working to implement lower car protections (a product that we have already start-ed manufacturing in the USA) and to manufacture insula-tion for the engine bonnet using a technology similar to that for the headliners. In this field we are at the stage of informing our customers, since this technology would allow the weight of the vehicles to be reduced.

In the global presence area, we are trying to regroup production to make better use of the facilities available. With that, we aim to reduce the investment required and ensure that plants that have sufficient volume to achieve optimal results.

What are the new business areas being devel-oped by your Department?

As I said earlier, as part of the strategic plan we have intro-duced two new products and we are now working to attract orders for these.

Apart from these new lines, we have to strengthen the pano-ramic solutions which in the near future will be widely used in Europe and for which we need to develop technologies such as electric motors and solar protection devices.

News Grupo AntolinAutumn 2010 · 11

Your Business Unit is the most international one in the company, including 20 plants in 17 coun-tries. How do you manage this range of cultures?

This is one of the most complicated, but also most interesting aspects that we have to manage in the unit.

On the one hand, we have to act as one, as Grupo Antolin, with our culture and our way of doing things. However, on the other hand, we cannot forget that different countries and different cultures form part of the Group.

The way to manage this diversity is to use the systems that the Group has developed over the last few years. We are talking about the reporting and management systems which allow for rapid and efficient information flows and communication.

With these systems we can, for example, ensure that Burgos is rapidly informed about a problem with the foam in Grupo Antolin-Silao, allowing Burgos to help resolving the issue and also to learn from experience and take measures to avoid the same problem occurring in a different location.

Another important issue is setting clear objectives for the peo-ple to perform in their plants, technical offices and territories. However, we must not forget that the success of our business depends on the people and they must have autonomy to carry out their work.

We can summarise this balance with the phrase “Think glob-ally, act locally”.

How would you describe the relationship be-tween Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers and how should it develop?

This point is complicated for Grupo Antolin since as Tier 1 we are responsible for our actions to the final customer and in many cases the Tier 2 is either an imposed supplier or one of a similar size or even larger than ourselves, which makes the relationship difficult.

The only possible development is for there to be collaboration between all three, Customer - Tier 1 - Tier 2. In this industry, the margins are so small that there is no room for excess costs due to inefficiency. As a result, constant collaboration with our suppliers is required to resolve problems and seek efficient so-lutions that provide the greatest quality at the lowest cost.

We have established development programmes with several providers, aimed at achieving ongoing improvements, and over the last few years this has allowed us to remain com-petitive despite the continuous price reductions that we have suffered.

I am convinced that Grupo Antolin will continue to be the leader in this area thanks to its technological knowledge, its industrial efficiency and its capacity to serve customers all over the world. w

Key Knowledge Management Model

Key knowledge (competences) which are currently being enhanced in Grupo Antolin are directed towards achieving competitiveness advantages based on knowledge.

COMPETENCE, PROTECTING PADS-DESIGN: ADHESIVES

Headliners plant adhesive managers attended a workshop on May 26th.

The Knowledge leader in this field, Santos Tabliega (Product Advanced Engineering - Overhead BU), helped by Enrique Fernández (Product Advanced Engineering Responsible - Overhead BU), shared their experiences and knowledge with others. This workshop, carried out at Grupo Antolin-Eurotrim, dealt with the diffusion of the best practices and standards to be taken into account in the adhesive process.

The prevention Culture at

Over the last few years the number of workplace accidents at Grupo Antolin-Silao has been reduced considerably. Our colleagues explain to us the key factors in achieving this and the actions taken

Grupo Antolin-SILAO

Occupational Health and Safety has always been a priority at Grupo Antolin-Silao, right from the very start. However, three years ago a very important safety event took place which marked the start of a new phase.

The implementation of a Prevention Culture began, using the expression “If you fall, pick yourself up and you will grow stronger”, since life teaches us that one can always learn from any situation.

Since that time, a great deal of hard and demanding work has been put into improving safety and ergonomic conditions, all of which has led to a reduction in the accident rate, which historically has been high, and to compliance with the Grupo Antolin Occupational Health and Safety Policy.

365 days without accidents

Graphic of accidents evolution in Grupo Antolin-Silao

News Grupo Antolin18 · Autumn 2010

Key factors

At Grupo Antolin-Silao we know that, both at work and at home, there is NO such thing as zero risk. However, we are convinced that these risks can be controlled. As a result, from the Induction Course onwards we try to make all of our employees aware that “Safety is Everyone’s Res-ponsibility”.

Last year, as a part of the third awareness event, we held a Safety Day after having gone for a record number of days without an accident. Among other items, the event contained an explanation of the key factors involved in this achievement:

· Educating, leading by example.

· Recognising that employees work better under good safe-ty and ergonomic conditions.

· Recognising that Grupo Antolin is only worth what its em-ployees are worth and that they are its most important asset.

· Recognising that providing health and safety training for personnel is fundamental.

· Offering ongoing supervision and feedback for employees.

· Employees showing their commitment to health and safety.

· Being convinced that safety is an investment rather than an expense.

Actions carried out

1) Placing Safety Sheets at workstations to provide informa-tion about the safe handling of the machines, personal protective equipment and what to do in the event of an emergency.

2) Providing information about safety in the meetings at the start of a shift, discussing any accidents that have taken place and reinforcing the message that to prevent accidents employees should approach every activity with their eyes and their minds open.

3) Training to reinforce the basic concept of health and safety through talks and handing out health and safety brochures, three-fold leaflets and phrases. In addition, future health and safety supervisors are gradually being trained, reinforcing our efforts in the training area.

4) Information about accidents and achievements, displayed in a location clearly visible to all employees entering the plant.

5) Application and monitoring of Health and Safety Good Practice, carrying out benchmarking with other compa-nies in the same area and largely involving the participa-tion and concerns of employees.

6) Promoting the Social Wellbeing Protocol monitoring the health of the personnel from the start and implementing health education and promotion plans.

7) Creation of a Health and Safety Culture of conviction and consensus.

Challenges for Grupo Antolin-Silao

The ambitious challenge that we have set ourselves is to se-cure this Prevention Culture, so that it continues providing greater value to the employees and the company, offering safe working conditions and a healthy lifestyle.

We must all contribute to the continued generation of health and safety awareness and a health and safety cul-ture, so that this commitment to Health and Safety includes the Workplace, Family and Social areas. w”

Traditionally, voice communications have been independent from data network communications. Although they are op-erated by the same telecommunication companies, differ-ent connections are needed for voice and data.

Regarding voice, voice channels are hired from telephone operators which determine the number of simultaneous calls that can be made per plant. The operator then bills for the use of these channels per minute and destination (local, national, international).

Data links for data connections have been traditionally meas-ured as “flow” taking into account the distance between the connecting headquarters, with a monthly flat rate.

The convergence of these two worlds, although long await-ed, has needed some previous steps so as to make it possible:

· The development of new compression mechanisms (co-dec) which will allow the quality of voice to be maintained while keeping the flow to a minimum.

· The development of intelligent communication networks capable of prioritising some transmissions over others.

“Voice over IP” in Grupo Antolin

Technology “Voice over IP” is being implemented and ex-tended throughout Grupo Antolin in two ways:

· First, by means of “Office Communications Server” (known as OCS) including Office Communicator and Live Meeting. With Office Communicator text, voice and video communications can be established among people from the organization, both on the Intranet and the Inter-net, accessing from one’s computer. With Live Meeting, virtual meetings with audio and video can be carried out, as well as presenting and sharing office computer docu-ments (PowerPoint, Excel and so on), a website, desktop or other types of documents. These meetings can be es-tablished with users from within the organization and from outside it, using both intranet and internet.

· The other way to support this new technology is by up-dating the telephone switchboards, which is cur-rently underway. With this updating, all the internal calls will be sent from the switchboards to our different work-ing centres via the newly available networks.

However, this technology does not only allow extension calls to be managed in an optimum way (by either dialling the complete or abbreviated number), but long-distance calls to third-parties can also be avoided by connecting the telephone network to the closest (and cheapest) point at the destination. By doing this, telephone calls to a supplier or client in another country can be made by accessing the local telephone network through the Grupo Antolin plant located in the same place, consequently avoiding expensive international calls.

Throughout this year, this technology will be introduced in our centres in France, Portugal, United States…in ad-dition to the installations and updating already initiated in Spain.

The economic relevance of this solution

“Voice over IP” adds new functions to the traditional tel-ephone as it favours a better integration with the PC. How-ever, without any doubt, the key element in these solutions is the saving costs in telephone calls. The fact that, almost all international calls have “zero cost” (among centres of the Group) or “local rate” cost (with third-parties), is going to lead to significant savings in our company.

As an example, in our centres in Spain, 64.5% of the cost of calls to land line-phones, are due to international calls, the most expensive (in decreasing order) are calls to France, India, Germany and China.

Taking the data referring to the current number of minutes of communication and consumption, both in Spain and in our subsidiaries abroad, the estimated saving will be in excess of 900,000 euros per annum: approxi-mately 250,000 euros, due to the use of OCS and 650,000 euros due to the differences between international and lo-cal or metropolitan rates. And all this can be achieved with-out giving up the efficient operational capacity or quality of our communications. w

Industrial Committee of the Door Function Business Unit The very first Door Function BU In-dustrial Committee meeting took place on June 22nd in Grupo Antolin-Aragusa. The managers from Euro-pean plants attended physically, and managers from Mexico, Brazil and United States via “Live Meeting”.

After visiting the plant and during the morning the results of the Unit were presented (industrial, financial, qual-ity- control, commercial, purchasing and an update of the projects in hand

was also included). Following a brief pause for lunch, the strategic plan which has recently been approved was reviewed.

The Industrial Committee is the fo-rum for exchange of opinions and discussion for all the Business Unit managers, where not only is informa-tion given about the Group but the sharing of experiences and the trans-mission of the best practises among different plants is made easier. It is also the action to pull together the Unit’s priorities from an industrial point of view, and above all, it pro-motes personal contact among all those who attend, creating the nec-essary team spirit for advancing in the already initiated line of improve-ment. w

New modern art museum opened close to Grupo Antolin-Jarny

In May 2010, a new museum of modern art has opened its door for visitors. Pompidou-Metz, in the eastern French city of Metz, is situated 25 km far from one of our plants, GA-Jarny.

The newly-opened Centre Pom-pidou-Metz Museum is France’s biggest art space, covering 10,700 square meters. Designed by two architects, Jean de Gastines and Shigeru Ban, this architectural challenge stands out from the oth-er buildings thanks to its original woven timber roof that resembles a Chinese straw hat.

Centre Pompidou-Metz Museum can hold multimedia shows, live performances and different instal-lations as well as the most popular art works of artists like Picasso, Ma-tisse, Dalí, Miró, Braque, Chagall, Brancusi and Giacometti. w

Grupo Antolin participates in the 9th EMPLOYMENT FORUM OF BURGOS UNIVERSITYOn 27 and 28 April the ninth edition of the Burgos University Employment Forum took place, an unbeatable opportunity for Grupo Antolin to gain access to the university students and recent graduates.

Grupo Antolin was involved in two ways. Firstly, it organised a stand in the exhibi-tion area which provided students and graduates with information on its activi-ties and products. This also allowed it to make contact with candidates of interest. It also gave a talk titled “Company Selec-tion Processes”, where it provided infor-mation about the demands of the current labour market and the key factors for suc-cess in selection interviews.

To coincide with this forum, Grupo An-tolin presented a request for entries for the “Ingenieros Cantera” initiative, a programme offering grants to final year and recently graduated students who are offered theoretical and practical training in several of the company’s production plants around the world. The programme, which will start in October, is particularly aimed at students or recent graduates in the industrial and chemical engineering areas, offering them the opportunity of their first contact with the world of work.

During two days of the event, the attend-ing university students presented 1,207 CVs to the companies present in the fo-rum and the Employment Unit at the uni-versity, and 180 of these left their details directly at the Grupo Antolin stand.

In keeping with this initiative, on 11 and 12 May the first edition of the Profes-sional Training Employment Forum was held and Grupo Antolin also took part through its information stand, allowing Professional Training students to find out more about its work. w

Grupo Antolin supplier of the RENAULT / NISSAN /AVTOVAZ alliance Our company has been included in the closed circle of the suppliers of com-plete systems for anti-trap window regulators for Renault/Nissan/Avtovaz alliance, a manufacturer which is cur-rently situated in the third place in world rankings.

For almost 30 years, we have been de-veloping and manufacturing window regulator mechanisms that respond to the needs of all car segments. Our Group knew how to adapt to techno-logical evolutions and to reliability re-quired by the market, offering a fully integrated solution developed inter-nally. As the consequence of this in-cursion in the mentioned alliance, our company expands its presence in the old continent.

An entrance through the front door

Thanks to our ability to give the an-swer in a global way (technically, com-mercially…), we have accessed to a new platform of the Renault range with significant production volumes. This will be a starting point of future technology of Renault and a large market opportunity for Grupo Antolin.

A unique opportunity of growth

This commercial success, based on a total collaboration between the Door Business Unit, the Innovation Depart-ment and the French unit of Grupo Antolin, today opens the doors of Re-nault and allows us to integrate our solution in future vehicles. This is an achievement of which the beginning was established with validation of re-liability of the anti-trap function soft-ware by Renault (100% Grupo Anto-lin), after years of working alongside with the client.

All this positions us properly for the future platforms, which could increase our market share as well as the busi-ness volume of this, strategic for the Group, activity. w

A year that has in-volved consolidation and launch of its first plan, which actions and projects are reflected in this Re-port. These are the main lines of work that are presented:

Grupo Antolin-France, new location On 14th of June, Grupo Antolin-France moved from Vélizy to Guyan-court in the region of Île-de-France.

Taking advantage of the favora-ble evolution of the professional real estate market, we chose new more comfortable and more spa-cious premises. The objective of this change is to improve the conditions of welcome of our co-workers, without forgetting our customers. By signing a long-term lease for a surface 20% bigger than the previ-ous one, we intend to send a strong signal: Grupo Antolin will remain present on the French market offer-ing, at the same time, the possibility of intensifying its action there.

Beginning in summer 2009, with the choice of the new premises, the phase project of the move is now ended.

Issues met by the persons in charge of the project were the same as in every other project: choice of the suppli-ers, ensure the schedule, guarantee the management of the budget and manage the quality.

After a year of work, all the arrange-ments were made before the move. Everything was working on time on June 14th for the arrival of the employees at their new workplace. Only some adjustments were neces-sary after their arrival.

Thanks to all the people, who have worked on this project to make it successful and let us invite you to our new workplace. w

Signing the Diversity Charter On 24 June, Grupo Antolin signed the Diversity Charter. This is a let-ter/code of commitment voluntarily signed by companies and institutions in a country, regardless of their size. The companies signing the docu-ment promise to respect the regula-tions in force relating to equality of opportunity and non-discrimination as well as to work on their adher-ence to basic principles of action in this area.

The Foundation for Diversity in Spain has been established by the Euro-pean Institute for Diversity Manage-ment and Foundation ALARES in order to encourage equality and an-tidiscrimination policies as well as di-versity management in Spain. Its goal is the spreading and implementation of the Diversity Charter in companies and institutions in Spain.

The Charter shows the Guidelines of the European Commission from year 2000 which are becoming laws in each country which is a member of the Union.

As mentioned in our last Newsletter, any company that aspires to success needs to understand the diversity of the world in which it operates. Apart from being

an organisational commitment, diver-sity involves each and every one of us. Everyone has the right and the obliga-tion to be treated and to treat others with due respect and dignity. The more that we understand and assimilate our differences, those of our colleagues, customers, suppliers, etc. the greater will be the value generated. We are certain of that.

This action is a part of the pro-gramme that has been internally named as GLOBALIZA, which is sim-ply the commitment of the company to work ensuring that human rights are respected in all of the countries in which we operate commercially. w

Floods in Chrastava

The recent serious floods, which at the beginning of August affected the area among the frontiers of South Germany, Po-land and Czech Republic, have caused severe damages in Grupo Antolin´s plant in Chrastava. This small Bohemian town, where 20 years ago one of our main plants was opened to produce headliners, saw last Saturday how the little stream that crosses the town increased from 25 cm to 3.5 meters in only two hours

The flooding has caused serious damages in the town of Chrastava, in the infrastructures of the area and has flooded our production facilities.

Housing and properties of more than 60 of our employees also have been damaged gravely.

Since authorities allowed the access to the area, cleaning works at the plant started with huge difficulties as the major part of the plant had been covered by 1.5 meter of water.

The Group has reacted from the very beginning to make everything that is possible in order to restore the plant and restart the deliveries to our customers as soon as possible. And all this thanks to the effort of the local team alongside with the emergency team sent from Burgos, Eurotrim, Au-totrim, Sachsen, Emden, Turnov, Weyhausen, Bratislava and

Zilina as well as production support of Ostrava, IGA, Euro-trim and Leamington and the “back office” of the Head-quarters in Burgos.

We should as well underline the importance of maintenance and security crews sent by our clients and the multitude of exterior companies that specialize in maintenance, cleaning and recovery of flooded installations.

There is a continuation of the extraordinary activities, but with the help of everyone, the Group has overcome this exceptional situation in which we have never been before.

At the time of closing this number of the News-letter, the plant production is already surpass-ing 4,000 headliners a day and is progressively stabilising its production. w

It is the only Indian company among the top tractor brands in the world and has made an entry in the two-wheeler segment, which will see the company emerge as a full-range player with a presence in almost every segment of the automobile industry.

Mahindra & Mahindra grew from being a maker of army vehicles to a major automobile and tractor manufacturer. It has acquired plants in China and the United Kingdom, and has three assembly plants in the USA. M&M has partnerships with international companies like Renault SA, France and In-ternational Truck and Engine Corporation, USA.

The company has a global presence and its products are exported to several countries. Its global subsidiaries include Mahindra Europe Srl. based in Italy, Mahindra USA Inc., Ma-hindra South Africa and Mahindra (China) Tractors Co. Ltd.

It is also the largest tractor manufacturer in India with sus-tained market leadership of over 25 years. It designs, devel-ops, manufactures and markets these vehicles as well as farm implements. Mahindra (China) Tractors Co. Ltd. manufac-tures tractors for the growing Chinese market and is a hub for the exports to the USA and other nations. M&M has a 100% subsidiary, Mahindra USA, which assembles products for the American market.

Automobile Industry

The firm made its entry into the passenger car segment with the Logan in April 2007 under the Mahindra Renault joint venture. M&M will make its maiden entry into the heavy trucks segment with Mahindra Navistar, the joint venture with International Truck, USA.

Its automotive division makes a wide range of vehicles in-cluding MUVs (Multi Utility Vehicle), LCVs (Light Comercial Vehicle) and three wheelers. It offers over 20 models includ-ing new generation multi-utility vehicles like the Scorpio and the Bolero. The Mahindra Xylo was launched in January 2009 and as of June 2009 the Xylo has sold over 15,000 models.

In early 2008, Mahindra commenced its first overseas CKD (Complete Knock Down) operations with the launch of the Mahindra Scorpio in Egypt, in partnership with the Bavarian Auto Group. This was soon followed by assembly facilities in Brazil. Vehicles assembled at the Brazilian plant in Bramont, Manaus, include Scorpio Pick Ups in single and double cab pick-up body styles as well as SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicle).

Early this year Mahindra & Mahindra entered into an agree-ment to buy a majority stake in Indian electric carmaker Reva (now called Mahindra Reva). Before the close of this newsletter they had been named as preferred bidder for Korea’s Ssangyong (the company was willing to pay up to $400 million).

Mahindra is currently preparing to sell the diesel SUVs and pickup trucks starting in North America, through an inde-pendent distributor, Global Vehicles USA, based in Alpharet-ta, Georgia.

Grupo Antolin’s collaboration with MahindraGrupo Antolin in India started working for Mahindra in year 2000 for the Mahindra Scorpio. It was a joint collaboration with Lear India to supply interior components. Grupo Antolin supplied the headliner for the Scorpio to Lear, which in turn would supply it along with other interior trims to Mahindra.

Grupo Antolin’s first full design and development project for Mahindra was for Xylo model in the year 2006. Our company had designed and developed the complete overhead system (including AC ducts) in Glasutec® technology for the first time for Mahindra. This project had many firsts for Grupo Antolin in India:

· The first overhead console designed and developed.

· The first twinshell EPP sunvisor with illuminated mirror was designed and developed at the very last moment due to existing supplier’s failure to meet Mahindra’s expectations. The Group supported Mahindra in this crucial moment and developed the sunvisor in record time.

· The first JIT assembly center was set up in Nashik by our firm for Mahindra to supply overhead systems to Xylo. This offered tremendous saving to Mahindra and was appreci-ated a lot.

Grupo Antolin constant design support and capabilities coupled with robust manufacturing and quality support strengthened our relationship with Mahindra. This, as well as constant interaction with the Purchasing and Development team, resulted into further projects from Mahindra.

Subsequently we worked on Scorpio single cab, double cab & SUV for export, Xylo pickups single cab & double cab and compact Xylo. Our colleagues in India supported the client with A surface proposals and Scorpio headliners which were accepted and implemented by Mahindra.

Now Mahindra is the second biggest customer for our Pune plant. We are having more than 90% business share in its overhead consoles.

Mahindra decided to work with us for their maiden foray into the Heavy Trucks manufacturing. Mahindra collabo-rated with Navistar International to manufacture 25 tonnes and 31 tonnes trucks for Indian market. We supply interior trims in Glasutec® for these trucks. This has opened up a new market segment. We are currently supplying or under discussion with various truck makers for their range of truck models like Mahindra Loadking, Tata Prima, Ashok Leyland, Volvo and others.

Grupo Antolin in India was awarded the most ambitious pro-ject for Mahindra, the W201. We are responsible to design and develop headliner, overhead console and grab handles for this project, introducing, for the first time, full modularity concept.

Constant support to Mahindra has given us an opportunity to take over all the business of an ailing competitor. We will soon start to produce interior trims for Maximo and Scorpio single cab and double cab.

Recently at the annual supplier meeting at Macau, Mahindra rewarded us with Best Supplier Performance Award for VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) and cost management. Farnan Rushe received the award on behalf of Grupo Antolin from Pawan Goenka. w
