Beginning last year, the Voluntary Workcamps Association of Ghana (VOLU) has introduced the following programmes in addition to the traditional workcamps in our efforts to diversify and modernize our activities:

- Drumming and Dancing Workshop

- Expedition

- Family-Living

- Gap Year / Service Learning

- Vacation Classes

- Voluntary Internship

Opportunity is being given to volunteers to be placed on projects by choosing one from a variety of the placement opportunities. These include construction works such as building schools and health facilities, working with district assemblies, non-governmental and other public organizations, teaching, healthcare, HIV/AIDS projects, working with people with physical or mental disabilities, eco-tourism and other development projects.

We expect that volunteers would bring their skills and knowledge to help the country, give tools or materials to aid future development and also develop the skills of the people that they would be working with.

Depending on one’s qualification, experience and area of interest, VOLU would select placement for volunteers either in an urban or a rural community.

The duration of the programmes vary from 2 weeks to 2 years, thus short-term, medium-term or long-term and is available for people aged 17 and above.

During the summer of 2014, two workcamps were organized successfully. A pilot project on vacation classes attracted a number of Ghanaian as well as volunteers from two partner organizations in Europe. The project was very successful and we hope to replicate it in some other places in Ghana in subsequent years.

Our programme for next year will come out soon.

Attached are some pictures from the vacation classes’ workcamp organized in August 2014.
