Greetings and Joy:
Our Mission Statement:
Rockbrook United Methodist
Church’s mission is to make
disciples for Jesus Christ by
proclaiming God’s Good News and
by providing a community for
spiritual growth. The Great
Commission, Matt. 28:19
This mission statement,
adopted at the 2010 Church
Conference, is to guide and remind
us that our goal as God’s Church is
to develop disciples for Jesus Christ,
and to provide a place where
everyone can grow spiritually.
On April 26th at the called
Church Conference we engaged in
Holy conversation on our need for
some campus maintenance and
repairs that would include: new
outdoor signage, addressing major
drainage issues for inside and
outside of the church, repairing the
bathrooms in the Knapp Wing,
creating a safe and efficient kitchen,
renovating the bathroom next to the
kitchen and repairing a decaying
lower level parking lot.
Dr. Dan Flanagan, District
Superintendent, led us through the
process. After the motion was
officially presented, 2 amendments
followed. The first was to do the
work in stages with Church
Conference setting work priorities.
This amendment did not pass. The
second was to delete the sign from the
overall proposal. This amendment did
not pass.
After a brief discussion relating
to the funding process (I will address
the campaign later) there was a call for
the motion. A vote was taken by
ballot. The motion as presented was
approved, 65 for the motion and 3
against.
Concern was expressed about
the commitment to pay our Mission
Shares. We paid 60% of our Mission
Shares in 2014. We must be
committed to paying 100% of our
Mission Shares in 2015. You will be
hearing more from the Finance
Committee throughout the campaign.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
On our previous campaign we
hired an outside firm; although
successful, it was expensive. The
Finance Committee will coordinate
this campaign. During the months of
May and June the Finance
Committee will develop the process,
using the material from the previous
campaign.
The goal is to have the cam-
paign completed by end of September
and reaching our goal of $375,914.00
pledged.
June 2015
As the plan unfolds we will
keep you informed. We will have a
variety of committees and will need
every person involved. Please say
“yes” when you are asked.
***************
As we move forward, I ask
the following from you;
1. Pray for the process – pray
that the Holy Spirit will dwell in the
hearts of everyone.
2. Pray, asking the question,
“How can I help my church grow and
how can I help provide a community
for spiritual growth.”
3. Continue in Holy
conversation and be led by the Holy
Spirit.
A Commitment to the Great
Mission will grow a Great Church.

2 News From the Rock . . .
Hello from the Gracious Generosity Committee, I cannot believe that summer is already here. It’s been busy in our
household as baseball has started and the school year is coming to an end.
With that comes a time full of activities. As we go about our summer ac-
tivities, I just want to remind you that our financial commitments are still
needed. If you are away you can visit the Rockbrook website and give your
generous gifts online.
Also, I would like to encourage you to prayerfully consider participating in
the upcoming Capital Stewardship Campaign. The campaign will begin
soon and information will be coming out soon, if it hasn't already. Through
the month of April, total revenue was $128,200 and our total expenses were
$126,000. Mission shares paid through April are $16,196, or 33.3% of our
total owed, so we paid our mission shares in full the first 4 months of the
year. Remember that our giving not only supports our church, but people in
the United States and around the world.
Again, thank you from the Gracious Generosity Committee
Emily Quigley

Spring is here and
along with that comes
yard work! In an effort
to keep our church
yard looking beautiful,
the trustees would like
the help of the
congregation. Would you be willing to adopt an
area of the yard and maintain it throughout the
summer? Unsure if that's a plant or a weed?
We have 2 master gardeners in our
congregation who are willing to give
instructions. This would be great family time,
hours for a service project or having fun with a
church friend. Some areas are larger than oth-
ers and we will match you or your whole family
accordingly. Thank you for considering helping
our church look welcoming on the outside too!
Please call Kathryn Hauswald 402-331-2178 or
Kate Rist 402-555-2432 if you are interested or
have questions.

Nisfi's Story
In his second year with ZOE, 16-year-old Nisfi has begun to see the fruits of his labors with ZOE’s partnership and his working group. Ambitious and hardworking, he was the first child to sign up for ZOE’s empowerment program when the staff came to his Guatemalan village a year ago. His large family had been struggling for years after his alcoholic father left for the United States, and died shortly thereafter. At eight years old, Nisfi became his mother’s helper in the field she rented to grow corn and beans to support the family. Unfortunately, it never provided enough to support everyone, and they often went hungry.
When Nisfi joined ZOE last year, he cried as he told his story. However, he became excited as he learned that ZOE would help him develop a business of his own. He wanted to raise chickens. Out of the rocky terrain in his village, Nisfi and his working group friends carved out some space and built a chicken coop, and ZOE provided him with a few chicks. Using the animal husbandry skills ZOE taught him, he has grown his flock to 23 chickens. Recently he created a sign for his chicken farm and got permission to put it on a prominent building. When he saw the sign hung, he was overjoyed.
Through ZOE, Nisfi and his working group opened a 12-seat restaurant. With the whole group pitching in, the restaurant provides all the members with additional personal income, as well as funds for future group projects. Nisfi has also returned to school, and he still helps his mother and his working group in the fields growing their crops. Through ZOE, Nisfi and his mother can better support their large family, and they thank God every day for the bright future they look forward to.
I invite you to meet Nisfi, one of these 28,000
ZOE is a METHODIST distinctive three-year program developed in Africa that empowers orphans and vulnerable children around the world to overcome extreme poverty, become fully self-reliant, and learn of God’s love for them. Active in Kenya, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Liberia, Guatemala and India, ZOE has approximately 28,000 children currently enrolled. This will be our VBS outreach this year. The congregation will have the opportunity to financially support this program on June 14th. We plan on raising money for OX PLOWS !
