Accelerated Learning Program Success Once again this year many of our students sat an entrance exam for the Accelerat-
ed Learning Program for Dandenong High School in the middle of Term Three.
Dandenong High School have developed an in depth testing and interview process
in order to determine which students would be capable of completing their Accel-
erated Learning Program successfully.
Students who participate in the Accelerated Learning Program stay together as a
class for the core subjects, but mix with other children their own age for the re-
maining subject areas.
We are proud to announce the following successful applicants that have been ac-
cepted into this program for 2013:
Alias Aloudal 6V Ramesh Fernando 6L Maryam Tuhuti 6L Lasitha Jayakodi 6C
Nanditha Meena
Nandakumar 5/6H Gayani Silva 6C Chathana Murugan 6C

University of New South Wales Testing Earlier this year thirty–three children sat the University of New South
Wales English Tests. Students volunteered to complete this assessment in
order to assess their skills against the tests written by the University of
New South Wales.
It is fantastic to see children who are intrinsically motivated continually
strive to achieve their best. This fabulous work ethic of the children and
the dedication of our teachers working together to enhance each students
knowledge.
Congratulations to Hasna Kazi (4K) and Hashan Wickramasinghe (5D) for
achieving a Distinction in this year’s competition. This award places both
students in the top 10 percent of all students – a fantastic achievement.
Six children achieved in the top 30% to receive Credit Certificates. The children who achieved this result
were Dylan Meng (6V), Gajan Shanthakumar (6C), Gayani Silva (6C), Hans Zhu (5M), Kylie Lin (5M)
and Harsha Kumar (4W)
For the Mathematics Competition, thirty-nine students sat the exam with seventeen children receiving a
Credit certificate or better. The children who achieved Distinctions for the University of NSW Mathemat-
ics Test were Rakul Sridaran (3R), Hasna Kazi (4K), Stefina Lawerence (5D), Kylie Lin (5M) and Gajan
Shanthakumar (6C). A tremendous effort by these children!
Children who received a credit for the Mathematics test were Kartik Ramesh (3G), Harsha Kumar (4W),
Sahana Sukumar (4W), Snehithaa Kodavaluru (5D), Harshan Wickramasinghe (5D), Yuvan Sivakumar
(5M), Hans Zhu (5M), Claudia Nguyen (5W), Stefan Karapandza (6C), Chathana Murugan (6L) and Dylan
Meng (6V).
Congratulations to all of the children who elected to enter the Mathematics and/or English competitions.
Again, next year the University of NSW English and Mathematics Competitions will be available for all
children in Years 3-6 wishing to take the opportunity to participate.
Over the holiday period, the Dandenong Community would have noticed
a hub of action occurring in the playground area. The School Council
had purchased an Ausco building to be installed next to Mrs McLaugh-
lin’s and Mrs Wilhelm’s ESL rooms. As well, there was an enclosed cor-
ridor space built between the two buildings, connecting them together.
This building was purchased to meet the growing enrolments of Dan-
denong North as well as to provide spaces for the highly valued programs
that are run at our school. Mrs Mansbridge’s Prep class moved into one
of the new rooms as well as Ms Borthwick’s ESL program. The teachers
and especially the students are enjoying their new learning environment!

We are continuing to take enrolments for children who will be start-
ing Prep in 2013. With a pattern of increasing student enrolments
over the past few years, we are keen to ensure that we have enough
teachers in 2013 to keep all our class sizes as small as possible. We
are aiming to keep our Prep classes below twenty-one to allow chil-
dren a strong start to their educational journey during this important
foundation year. If you know of a neighbour or any relatives who
has a child that turns five before the 30th April 2013, please ask them
to come to the office to complete an enrolment form. Parents are
asked to bring proof of birth and an immunisation certificate
(obtained from the local council offices).
Early enrolment also ensures children are included in our Prep Transition Program which begins
Thursday 18th October between 2-3pm.
Prep Transition
2013 Enrolments
We are currently in the process of organising grades and teaching staff for next year and it is very im-
portant for us to know our enrolment numbers for 2013. If you know that your child will not be attending
Dandenong North next year, could you please fill out the slip below and either return it to your child’s
classroom teacher or to the office staff.
We thank you for your help with this.

Overseas Travel Return Dates
We understand at this time of year, many families are planning to travel overseas to spend the festive sea-
son with their loved ones, as well as taking advantage of the longer break from school. However it is im-
portant for us to know whether your child will be returning to Dandenong North on the first day of school,
Wednesday 30th January 2013 or whether your family will still be away on holidays. If you could
please notify your child’s current classroom teacher, and the office staff, (with a letter) as this help us to
determine school enrolments beginning in 2013.
Thank you for your assistance.
This week the students in Year 4 were given the opportunity by Cricket
Victoria, The AFL, Melbourne heart ans Basketball Victoria to attend
the Mega Sports Clinic, held at Dandenong Basketball Stadium. Stu-
dents were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of drills and
skill development activities for a various sports. The students had a
wonderful day and were very grateful for the opportunity to participate
in this event. Here are some recounts from students in 4R.
The Year 4’s were lucky enough to be invited to
the Dandenong Basketball Stadium on the
10/10/12. I felt happy but worried about the day
because I was nervous that I would not know how
to play the games.
I was a bit scared to play soccer because that was
my first time, but it turned out great. I learned how
to kick the ball into the goal. In basketball I learned
how to do tricks like sitting down and bouncing the
ball.
I think that next year’s grade 4’s would love to go
because they can learn things and make new
friends. You get more exercise, keep fit and learn
to co-operate.

My day started with a surprising morning. I could-
n’t believe it was the day of the Mega Sports Clin-
ic, but when I got to school I nearly missed the bus
because I was running late. When we got there, the
first sport was AFL. I realized for the first time that
I could catch a footy.
We also played soccer which was easy for me be-
cause I had practiced at my old school. We played
a game where we versed another person. It was
great and I got to meet more friends too.
When I got home I was so tired that I fell into bed,
but it was a great adventure.

“Bang!” went the bus doors as we headed to the Dandenong Sports Clinic. I was super excited to go and
hoped that this day would be extraordinary. When we arrived I was scared because I thought that we would
have to verse the other schools but we didn’t.
We started with AFL and learned how to do a handball. After that, we went to soccer and learnt how to do
a penalty shoot-out. I was the winner. During basketball, I was amazed to see my friend Samim do some
hard tricks. In the cricket activities I was really good at throwing the ball in the air, clapping and then
catching it.
I think we should go to the Dandenong Sports Clinic next year because we learned some new skills, we got
to know what talent we were good at and we got to try some new sports.
