As in previous years, it will be assembled and published during the summer and will be available to the children at the Open House/Meet the Teacher Night in August. Yearbooks not picked up for 5 th graders at the Open House can be sent to the middle schools to be distributed there. Be on the lookout for the yearbook order forms. They are $12.00 again this year, and you can also write a personal “congratulatory” ad to your child or children for $10.00 each, as in past years. A receipt will be sent home with your child (within a few days) when you order, so please return your order by Tues., May 21 st . Additional order forms will be available in the office. Make checks payable to Cypress Ridge PTO . Please help us by turning in your orders and ads on time. Thank you very much! Parents, if you have taken digital pictures (or will take pictures during upcoming events, especially Graduation), please email up to 10 of the best ones to Anne Harris at [email protected] , or you can send them to school on a CD. We may be able to use them in the yearbook! Thank you! A lot of work goes into the creation of our yearbook. We want to recognize Anne Harris for her dedication and hard work in capturing the history of each school year. Celebration of Learning May 16 th 5:30-7:00

Each year, CRES celebrates learning with an open house in May. Students have worked hard to showcase the many things they have done this year. THANK YOU FROM LEUKEMIA

& LYMPHOMA SOCIETY

We received a letter from the Society’s Campaign Manager thanking all Cypress Ridge faculty, staff, student body and parents for our generous contribution. Our school raised a remarkable $6,845.44. They also wanted to recognize Liz Mathis for her initiative, hard work and thoughtfulness in coordinating the Pasta for Pennies program. Her desire to teach children about the importance of helping others has given our students the opportunity to learn how they can make a difference.

School-wide Book Swap

May 23rd 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM

Start saving gently used books to bring in to your classroom May 13th to May 23rd. Each book a student brings in receives a coupon to swap for a different book the morning of May 23rd. Up to 4 coupons per student allowed, however extra donations are welcome. We'd like every child to be able to participate, so lots of books are needed, ESPECIALLY 5th grade and higher reading level books. Volunteers are needed for this in-school event. What Every Parent Needs to Know

Did you know that your child may be a

victim of summer reading loss? According to

an article from Just Read, Florida, students

can lose up to three months’ worth of reading

progress over one summer. If you take into

consideration all summers combined, students

could possibly lose 1.5 years’ worth of reading

progress. Summer reading loss can be

defeated through time spent reading with

your child, providing a variety of reading

material, using various internet resources, and

encouraging your child to just read for fun

and the pleasure of learning!

Please go to Mrs. Sherrie Smith’s website

for more information about Summer Reading

and booklists.

School Mall Do you shop by phone or online? If so, be sure to use School Mall so that our school earns money while you shop. Target, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Sears, The Children’s Place, and Kohl’s are School Mall merchants.

Are you sending flowers to your MOM for Mother’s Day? 1800Flowers.com is also a School Mall merchant.

Getting ready for that summer vacation? Hotwire and Travelocity are School Mall merchants too. School Mall has over 200 merchants. PLEASE use www.schoolmall.com when doing any online or phone shopping. You can earn money for our school WITHOUT spending extra.

SOS - We Need Your Help

to Save Our Subscriptions! Our annual Family

Reading Magazine Drive, sponsored by Great American Fundraising, Inc. (formerly known as

QSP) will take place next year from Sept. 6 to

Sept. 20.

You really can help us a lot. If you are ready to purchase or renew magazines now and throughout the year, you can support us by shopping online! Visit www.gaschoolstore.com/onlineportal.

Register using our school code 2533271

and make your selections. It’s that simple! We are not asking you to spend additional money on your subscriptions. We are only asking that the money you would normally spend is redirected and spent on magazines through our school instead of going directly to the publishers. With this great program, 40% of the purchase price of every subscription sold comes back to us! Customer satisfaction is 100% guaranteed! The prices are very competitive too. Each year we are depending on this program to raise much needed funds for our school. Your participation really makes a difference for our school and EVERY ORDER COUNTS! A magazine packet will be sent home with each student in September.

Plan ahead and help even more! Consider giving magazine subscriptions as gifts

throughout the year! Purchase subscriptions for the school, or your

child’s teacher(s)!

Let friends & family know about our fundraiser & ask them to order through Great American Fundraising, Inc. for us!

Magazines offer a wonderful opportunity to promote reading in the home. Don’t forget to check out the great magazine selection for the students in your own home!

Thank you! We couldn’t do it without you!
