Once again this year many of our students sat an entrance exam for the Accelerated Learning Pro- grams at both Dandenong High School and Lyndale Secondary College. Both schools have in depth testing and interviewing pro- cesses in order to determine which students would be capable of com- pleting these Accelerated Pro- grams successfully. Students who participate in these programs stay together as a class for the core subjects, but mix with other children their own age for the remaining subject areas. We are proud to announce that 12 of our children have been accepted into this program for 2014. The Boys Soccer Team headed to Mentone Gram-

mar playing fields last Wednesday to represent the

Greater Dandenong District at the Regional Finals.

As Mr Malone stated at Monday’s Assembly,

when have the opportunity to compete at the Re-

gional Finals you can come up against some excel-

lent sides - which is exactly what happened on the

day!

Our boys played against Berwick Primary School

and the game was a draw with a one all score.

The second game was against St Louis and the

boys lost this tough match 5 to 1.

In the third and final game, the boys played against

Patterson Lakes and displayed enough skill to win

this game 5 to 1.

Mr Malone was proud of the boys efforts and told

them to learn from the experience as they travelled

to the Regional Finals and gained a greater under-

standing of the

team work and

skill level re-

quired to suc-

cessfully com-

pete at this level

and above.

Thank you to

Mr Malone for

his commitment

to training this

team.

The Girls Netball team had their opportunity to

play in the finals last Thursday in Pakenham. The

girls played against Oatlands Primary and were

beaten 25 to 1. Their second game against St Louis

was another difficult game with the girls being

beaten 19 to 1. In the final round, we played Som-

erville where the girls were successful in the com-

petition, beating this school 10 goals to 5.

Mrs Saraikin spoke highly of the girls tenacity and

never give up attitude which they displayed at all

times on the court. Even when they were being

beaten, they continued to give 100% effort and to

support one another.

We thank Mrs Saraikin for her development of this

team.

Congratulations to both teams!

Child Collection Lately we have had a number of high school stu-

dents come to the office to sign out their brothers

or sisters from the school.

We are understanding of the fact that there are

times when our children need to attend appoint-

ments during school hours, however we are not

allowed by law, to release children into the care

of older siblings who are not considered adults.

We understand that sometimes older siblings are

picking children up and taking public transport

home, however we would prefer for a parent to pick

up a student or for a note to be produced that is

written by a parent, allowing our students to be tak-

en from school by an older sibling.

We would appreciate your assistance in this matter

as it would ease any issues that can occur when an

older sibling comes to collect a student from the

office.

It’s Badges Time!

The 10 day Intensive Swimming Program will be

held next term from Monday 2nd December to

Friday 13th December.

Lessons this year will again be taught at Just

Swimming, Scott Street Dandenong.

Students will travel to and from the pool by bus.

The cost of this program is $75.00, which equates

to $7.50 per lesson.

As this program requires a bus, only one has been

booked to ferry students to and from the venue—

because of this, positions are limited so it is very

important that the school receives confirmation

of your intention to have your student participate

in the program.

A note has already gone home this week to par-

ents. We are hoping that the early notification

will encourage families to take advantage of pay-

ing the cost of the program in installments of

$15.00 or more.

If this is your chosen option or you wish to pay

at once, the total for this program must be final-

ized by Friday 1st November 2013.

2014 Prep Enrolments

21st August 2013 Page 3

Our Self Esteem Program aims to develop students

into wonderful community citizens as well as de-

velop their confidence through the rewarding of

success.

Badges play a large part in this program as stu-

dents receive them for work well done, co-

operative play, successful understanding of a diffi-

cult concept or for simply being a good friend to

their peers.

2013 Swimming Program

We love to see

the children

wearing their

badges proudly

at assembly as

it reminds all of

us of the won-

derful things

happening at

our school and the fabulous children who are

a part of our community.

We are currently taking enrolments for children

starting in Prep next year in 2014.

We are aiming to keep our Prep classes below

twenty next year, in order to give children the

best possible attention during this most important

foundation year. Therefore it is important for us

to have an idea of how many students may be

enrolling at our school for 2014.

If you know of a neighbour or a relative who has

a child that turns five before the 30th April 2014,

please ask them to come to the office to complete

an enrolment form.

Parents are asked to bring proof of birth and an

immunisation certificate (obtained from the local

council offices).

Early enrolment also ensures children are includ-

ed in our Prep Transition Program which begins

next term. The focus of Prep transition is to make

new Preps familiar with and comfortable in the

school environment. This includes getting to

know their future teachers and classmates. Par-

ents are also given the opportunity to attend par-

ent information sessions.

The 2013 Prep Transition dates for students at-

tending Prep in 2014 are:

Thursday 10th October 2 - 3pm

Thursday 17th October 2 - 3pm

Thursday 24th October 2 - 3pm
