Newsletter #1 2017 Numerous MSP events planned for 2017 By the end of February, several MSP related events have already taken place: two Searica intergroup meetings on the importance of data for the sustainable development of maritime activities and on international ocean governance, a conference on the sustainable development of the Blue Economy in the Western Mediterranean, as well as the EMODnet sea basin stakeholder conference. The 2 nd International MSP conference will take place in Paris between 15 and 17 March, bringing together over 300 MSP experts from all over the world. The EU MSP Platform team will host an exhibition stand. Searica will host two more workshops: ‘Motorways of the Sea’ on 7 March and ‘Boosting maritime cooperation in the North Sea’ on 28 March. The city of Poole, UK, will host the European Maritime Day on 18 - 19 May and will bring together policymakers and stakeholders to discuss ‘the future of our seas'. Among the numerous workshops, there will be at least one related to MSP. Attend the 8 th annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region on 13 and 14 June and go to Amsterdam from 5 to 7 July to participate in the 9 th MARE conference, which will focus on ‘People and the Sea: dealing with Maritime Mobilities’. The Events page features documentation of past events as well as an extensive list of upcoming MSP related events. News from MSP projects HELCOM is currently developing an MSP data tool for the Baltic Sea Region in the context of the BalticLINes project. If you have access to the HELCOM Sharepoint, you can already test it here. The BalticLINes and the NorthSEE projects will get together in early March to discuss developments in shipping and energy. You can find more information on these projects as well as many others in the Projects database. In the Black Sea, MSP is moving forward in 2017, starting off with a conference organised by the project MARSPLAN BS on 28 March. The project produced an assessment of the Bulgarian and Romanian maritime areas, focusing on the major challenges for MSP in the Black Sea. In the Mediterranean, two MSP-related projects were recently officially launched on 27 February at the kick-off event “Maritime Spatial Planning in the Mediterranean, an occasion for Blue Growth” that was organised in Rome, Italy. The Mediterranean MSP projects SUPREME and SIMWESTMED aim to support the implementation of MSP in the Eastern and Western Mediterranean sea basins and to carry out concrete cross-border MSP cooperation initiatives. MSP funding The EMFF Call for Proposals on MSP projects in the North Sea, Baltic Sea, Black Sea and Outermost Regions is still open. Deadline for submissions is 31 March. For a seperate Call, a total of €1,500,000 has been made MSP practices Several new practice descriptions have been added to the database. The practices 'Northern Ireland Regional Seascape Assessment' and 'Mapping Atlantic Area seabed habitats for better marine management’ are guidelines on undertaking seascape assessments and focus on collating habitat mapping information across different countries, the latter in the context

News from MSP projects

available by the EU for the development oftransnational thematic tourism products thatpromote nautical tourism and water sportstourism at sea. The deadline is 15 March.

The Interreg cooperation forum ‘Europe,let’s cooperate’ will be held on 22 and 23March and will provide participants with theopportunity to network and attend practicalworkshops on project development and toask questions about the third Call of theInterreg programme.

Within the SIMCelt project, the MSPChallenge board game - specificallydesigned for the Scottish Marine Region –has now been used to engage stakeholdersin a new format.

Country informationThe Marine Management Organisation iscurrently organising a survey that will beopen until 31 March, asking for feedback onfour documents on the UK marine planningareas. They're also organising severalworkshops, listed on our Trainings page. Youcan view the new Country InformationProfile for the UK here.

On 23 March, the North Sea Energy Forumwill be held. The meeting will bring togetherstakeholders from the public as well asNGOs and the private sector from countriesbordering the North Sea.

The outputs of the 2nd Baltic MSP Forum inNovember are now available, providing awealth of information on the status of theimplementation of MSP in the European seabasins.

The EU MSP Platformwww.msp-platform.eu now features anextensive FAQ page, which focuses on 14topics of high relevance to MSP.
