Craig Luccarda

Deputy Principal

Middle School

This newsletter brings my first semester at Bathurst High to a close. It feels like it has been a very quick

semester, however, it just illustrates the volume of activity and work going on in the school for our

students.

I have been impressed with the 3 year groups under my middle year’s banner.

There has been a multitude of events both large and small that have given students an extra opportunity

beyond the normal classroom environment.

It is important to give young people a breadth of experiences to open their eyes and promote individual

judgement based on high quality evidence to allow forming of opinions with a good knowledge base.

This is part of brief of Public Education – we accept students from every walk of life and therefore we are

bound to make sure every student respects the cultural background or family structure of every other

student.

Our PBL statement articulates this through the respectful portion of the message – we expect every student

to respect this message and act upon it.

The travel expo was recently set up and coordinated by all Year 7 Integrated Studies classes. It was a

massive hit with students setting up stalls based on different countries. Students then dressed up and

presented to the public a variety of materials, including foods that were representative of their nation of

choice.

Reviews from staff, students and parents who attended were fantastic. Everyone should be congratulated

on their efforts. There were many countries represented – the photo is of the Brazil stall – vibrant in colour

and having a fun element as Brazil is often promoted.

At this stage I would like to thank everyone for their hospitality over this past semester. I hope everyone

has an enjoyable Christmas break. It is important that everyone stays safe at this time of year as Christmas

and holidays often bring a faster pace to life. What-ever holidays are on your family calendar I hope they

are enjoyable.

School Spectacular

Happy holidays to all our students. We have had a wonderful last few weeks with talent showcases,

culminating in the Band Showcase on Tuesday Night. We celebrated our academic high achievers at

Presentation Night and our Commendation Ceremonies recognised the efforts, improvements and

Achievements of students. The efforts of the Leadership Team were greatly appreciated by the whole

school at our assembly on Tuesday. They certainly know how to run a Christmas/Happy Holiday

Assembly!

Year 10 students had a blast at the End of Junior School Celebration Dinner. Thanks to Ms Withyman and

all the teachers who supervised that evening.

Feedback from employers about our students who undertook work placement has been overwhelmingly

positive. Well done Year 10 on being such great ambassadors for Denison College, Bathurst High Campus.

The Higher School Certificate results are released on Thursday morning and we encourage students to

come to school from 8.30am for a breakfast BBQ to share, discuss and congratulate each other.

Have a safe and happy holiday,

All the best,

Gaye
