NEWS FROM SOCIETIES AFFILIATED TO THE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION FOR MEDICAL AND BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING SOCIETY 43rd Scientific Meeting, 11-17 June 1971 It was a pleasure for us to be able to welcome in London members and their friends from the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Switzerland and West Germany, together with those from this side of the water. Grateful thanks must be expressed to members and their colleagues at the various establishments, who had so willingly spent much time in organizing and conducting the various parts of the programme both for the scientific programme, the ladies' programme and the social functions. In all at least 150 people took part in this meeting. 43A 9th LC.M.B.E. Melbourne, 23-27 August 1971 This conference has just taken place and there were 15 participants from Great Britain, most of the B.E.S. members. A number of our overseas members also attended and the Secretary General of the Conference was Dr. David Dewhurst. David was one of the first Corresponding members to join the B.E.S. in 1960. FORTHCOMING MEETINGS 44th Scientific Meeting, l l th Annual General Meeting, 9th Woolmer Memorial Lecture, Society Dinner, October 1972. The scientific meeting will be held at the Medical Council's Clinical Research Centre at Northwick Park, Harrow. Professor T. Z. Young, F.R.S. will give the Woolmer Memorial Lecture on 'The Worlds of Animals, Men and Gods'. Meetings 45 and 45A, 7 and 8 January 1972 On Friday January 7th, the 45th Scientific Meeting of the B.E.S. was held at King's College Hospital Medical School and the Institute of Psychiatry. Concurrently a 2 days conference on 'The Theory and Practice of Blood Flow Measurement' was held. Meeting 46, 20-24 March 1972, Liverpool A conference will be held on 'Recent Advances in Materials, Prosthetics and Aids to the Handicapped'. Education and Careers Advisory Sub-Committee This sub-committee proposed to compile a brochure giving details of courses and special lectures which are being held in Biological and Medical Engineering. It is hoped this will be of assistance to members in meeting enquiries. The secretary of the B.E.S. would be pleased to receive from members and others brochures of current courses with which they are concerned. His address is K.
