This month’s cloze test is from a true story about two brothers who built a pirate ship, with a difference! We’ve made it a bit trickier by taking out 7 words. This is called a cloze test. Read through the words in the black box first and make sure you understand them. Then, read through the article. Make sure you think about the best place to put a word, not the first place. Careful as you go, as some words may fit in a few places, while other words will only suit one place.

The toy pirate _________ needed some work before it was ready to be launched into the North Sea. It also carries a message asking anyone who finds it to send the boys a picture of it and then relaunch it back _________ the sea.

Since May, the plastic miniature ship, called Adventure, has reached the __________ of Denmark, Sweden and Norway, with locals sending back pictures and messages to the ___________ at every stage of the vessel’s voyage.

Now, the little ship is heading for an even bigger adventure.

WINTER WORD SEARCH ACTIVITY

Pssttt! Words don't always travel in straight lines, like in other word searches. They can go up, down, right or left, but they won't go diagonally. Good luck!

In the two pictures below, there are 10 differences to be spotted. How good are your detective skills?

Book reviews are all about what YOU thought of a book. They don’t tell just the story, and they certainly don’t give away the ending. Your sentences could begin with:

I thought… I liked when… My favourite part was when… I found… I didn’t like… I laughed when… and so on.

When you start your review with these sentence starters, you know you are talking about what you thought, not just what happened. Don’t forget to email your book reviews to [email protected]. Just ask your teacher or parent for help
