Articulation School Heat
Thursday 14th December
Last Thursday, parents and
staff had the fantastic
opportunity to listen to
4 talented year 12 students
go head-to-head competing
in the school heat of the
art ARTiculation competition.
The students did a fantastic job, but there could only
be one winner; Maya Howard, who gave her
presentation about Matisse’s ‘The Rosary Chapel’.
She will now go on to represent the school at the
southern regional heat held at the Whitechapel Gallery
in January. Well done to all of the students who took
part. It was a truly wonderful event!

THEME & WORD OF THE WEEK The New Year
‘The month January takes its name from the Roman God Janus. He was a God who
guarded gateways. He had two faces, which enabled him to look both forward and
backwards. The beginning of the New Year provides us with an opportunity to do the
same – to look back and review the time we have had,
and to look forward to our future.’

SCHOOL NEWS Year 7 Boys’ Football Success
The Year 7 boys’ football team have really
enjoyed the football season so far. They have
played over 17 games and haven’t lost a single
game yet!
The Kingsdale Southwark 5-a-side champions
beat City of London Academy in the Final 1-0 at
the Den, Millwall F.C. where they played 4
matches and won 4. The winning goal was
scored by Rylan. The Year 7s A & B teams are
still in all cup competitions – the English Schools
Cup & the Inner London and South London
Cups. Well done to everyone involved and to the
boys for their hard work!
Workshop at Dulwich Picture Gallery
Recently, Art students from across the school
were invited to attend a full day workshop at
the Dulwich Picture Gallery to explore how the
gallery presents and curates its collection, taking
into consideration its architecture right through
to the colour of the paint on its walls. Students
explored the collection and
made connections between
paintings, curating their own
imaginary gallery with their
selections. This workshop is
part of an extensive Heritage project, with
schools celebrating 200 years of the Dulwich
Picture Gallery. HEME OF THE WEEK: The New Year -
20 AMAZING MUSIC CONCERTS
Between 9th November & 4th December, a huge
number of pupils performed in one or more of
our 20 Christmas music concerts! These Junior &
Senior Concerts, which included Years 7 to
13, showcased the huge range of ability and
versatility in music which exists at our school.
There were performances in every genre of music.
On 30th November, 200 pupils took part in the
concert in the POD which was packed with an
overwhelming number of parents. This concert
included 10 Steel Pan groups, 2 African Drumming
groups & 1 Ukelele band. The concert ended with
the Senior Steel Band performing yet another
amazing piece. Earlier this year, this band won
Classorama - a huge Steel Pans competition for
all the schools in London. They came first in
2014, 2015, came second in 2016 and first and
second in 2017!
We have some exciting music events coming up in
the New Year. On 1st February 2018, the Winter
Concert will take place that will feature all the
ensembles in the school. On 22nd February 2018,
the Valentine’s Concert will feature musical
parents, musical staff, sixth formers and ex-pupils.
Please contact Mrs Graham if you are one of
those who would like to take part.
On Wednesday 20th December the School Choir sung at
King’s College Hospital. The patients and staff praised
them for their beautiful voices and wonderful
performances. Well done! You are amazing!
Please see below the email thanking the students for
their time and efforts:
On behalf of the patients and Staff on the
Older Peoples’ Wards at King’s I’d like to
thank you and the wonderful singers for
today's performances.
It was so uplifting for the patients and
staff. I noticed several of the patients
were really moved by the singing.
I hope you have a lovely Christmas and
best wishes for the new year.
