Year 7 Maths Scholars in Frankfurt

24th – 28th April 2017

In April the Year 7 Maths scholars went to Frankfurt

in Germany for 3 days. Our first day out was really

good. We went to the Mathematikum in Giessen. The

museum has over 1000 maths exhibits which we had

the pleasure of exploring. From shapes to

acceleration, code breaking to railway line building,

each student had the opportunity of hands on fun

maths.

On the following day we had a 2 hour walking tour

of the Frankfurt financial, business and Euro

metropolis. We saw medieval Frankfurt before the

Second World War and the restoration that is taking

place. We learnt of the origins of Frankfurt as an

economic power house in Germany and now Europe.

We later went to the modern Frankfurt financial

district and learnt about Frankfurt's current position

as a financial and business city.

After lunch we went to the

Money Museum of the

Deutsche Bundesbank.

This is a fascinating museum, where

we learnt about the history

of money as a medium of

exchange in Germany.

Our final day was spent at

the Europa Park where the

students let their hair down.

The trip was a huge success

and lots of fun was had by all!

Spelling Bee!

Two Year 7 students recently

represented Kingsdale at the Regional

Finals of the Foreign Languages Spelling

Bee. The students had to prove their

knowledge by spelling out words in

French, German and Spanish.

Although they did not make it

through to the Finals, out of an

initial 9,000 participants, they finished

in the top 50! Well done and we

look forward participating in the competition next year!

Irfan Masters at Kingsdale

Year 9 students were recently

treated to a visit by celebrated

Young Adult author Irfan Masters

who is currently on the last leg of

his promotional tour for his new

novel Out of Heart.

During his talk, Irfan covered all

manner of subjects, although

students found the stories about his

childhood, school life and how he

got into writing, of most interest.

Many students were inspired by his

words of advice and encouragement

at the end of the session. Thanks go

to Mr Masters!

Tennis Champs!

Our Year 7 & 8 Boys’ Tennis squad have made an

impressive start to their

season with 2 wins

out of 2, beating

Royal Russell and

Lingfield Notre Dame

schools. Their 10-2 victory

against Lingfield Notre

Dame School was a

fantastic team performance, with special mention to

Mukhtar Andu who captained the team, winning both

his singles and doubles games. He is definitely one to

watch for the future!

Europe Day

On Tuesday 9th May we

celebrated Europe Day.

Europe Day is held on

9th May every year,

celebrating peace and

unity in Europe.

The date marks the anniversary

of the historical

‘Schuman Declaration’.

Red Nose Day

24th March 2017

A huge

thank you!

Thanks to all the back-waxers, the fancy-

dressers, the cake bakers and the sponsored

silencers, the current national Red Nose Day

2017 total stands at a jaw-dropping

£73,026,234. This Red Nose Day saw some

impressive, brand spanking new and

sometimes downright daft endeavours all to

raise a smile, raise the laughs and raise

life-changing cash.

Kingsdale staff & students

were amongst those amazing

people and raised a whopping

sum of £802!

Your donation goes a long way to improve

the lives of others. On 31st March we also

managed to raise £275 at the Cultural

Festival for the ‘MIND’ mental health charity.

In total the school

raised nearly £1,100 in only

one week.

Well done to everyone for

your amazing efforts!

On the 31st March Kingsdale hosted Culture

Festival 2017. The day celebrated the wonderful

culture and diversity in Kingsdale. It was a great

day of fun filled activities.

This day also managed to raise (Awaiting figure).
