Greg Hands MP celebrates the opening of

Fulham Boys SchoolChelsea and Fulhams newest free school, opened its doors this week

to the delight of pupils, parents and teachers alike. Fulham BoysSchool, whose future had been in jeopardy earlier this year afteruncertainty over its site, had its first day of the school year on Monday15th September.Back in July, local MP Greg Hands intervened in a dispute betweenthe new Labour Council of Hammersmith and Fulham and theDepartment for Education, in order to help safeguard the site of theSchool. Greg met with Michael Gove (then Education Secretary) andLord Nash, the Schools Minister, urging them to reconsider theDepartment for Educations decision. After a guarantee from theMayor of London to help the school find a permanent home in theBorough, the school was able to open as planned this September.

Greg Hands said: Im thrilled that, after what was difficult summer,Fulham Boys School is now open. This is fantastic for parents and

pupils who have been through a lot to get their schools into what webelieve will be a top quality Church of England secondary school. Iwas delighted to be able to play a part in making this happen. I wishthe all the staff, teachers and, most of all, the pupils a very successfulschool year."Headmaster Alun Ebenezer commented, With all the recruiting,

planning, policy writing, meeting, campaigning, lobbying and fightingdone, what a feeling to open the gates on Monday morning to the firstever Fulham Boys. We now begin the really hard work of honouringour pledge to deliver a flagship school for the borough ofHammersmith and Fulham and become one of the best schools in thecountry state or private.FBS will be opening at Gibbs Green, North Fulham, for at least twoyears. It will then move to its permanent home, details of which will beannounced later.

Greg Handss Reaction to Super Sewer

    Recommendation

MP for Chelsea and Fulham, Greg Hands, is disappointed but notsurprised at the Planning Inspectorates recommendation for ThamesWaters main drive shaft for the Super Sewer to be in Carnwath Road,in Fulham. On Friday 12th September the Planning Inspectorate recommendedthe Thames Tideway Tunnel go ahead, including the use of CarnwathRoad Riverside as a site for a main drive shaft.Having fought on behalf of local residents for many years to try andfind a more suitable site for the drive shaft, rather than at CarnwathRoad, Greg said: Todays news comes as a disappointment, but not asurprise, as we have known that Thames Water wanted Carnwath

Road, not Barn Elms. I and many hundreds of local residents havefought to stop this coming to Carnwath Road for years, and I want tothank them all for their support.I am pleased to have had the chance to represent local people in thismatter and to have presented their views in written evidence, speaking at public meetings with the Planning Inspectorate,

participating in two large public summits and numerous meetings withresidents groups. This will be surely be disappointing for many local residents who willface massive disruption from construction work. I am therefore nowkeen to work with Thames Water on reducing the detrimental impact

of the construction on local residents wherever possible.I shall continue to liaise with residents to make sure Thames Waterlistens to them, and that together, residents and I fight to get the bestdeal for Fulham we can.The tunnel will run from the Acton Storm Tanks in West London to the

Abbey Mills pumping station in East London, with a storage capacityof 1,250,000 cubic metres. Construction is expected to start in 2016and be completed by 2023.

Greg Hands MP supports local author atWorld War II book launch

Greg Hands MP attended the booklaunch this week of Andre's War, bylocal author Francelle Bradford White.

A book about heroism in wartimeFrance, it tells the story of Francellesmother, Andre Griotteray, who foughtwith the French Resistance under Nazioccupation.

When the Germans invaded France,Andre Griotteray was only 19, justanother young teenager, in search offun and frivolity. However she soonfound herself living in an occupied city, forced to work alongside the men whohad invaded her country. Unable tostand by and do nothing, her youngerbrother Alain first set up an

underground newspaper, urging readers to join the resistance, beforecreating his own resistance network. Andre risked her life helpinghim in both endeavours.

Through her job at the passport department of the PoliceHeadquarters in Paris, she typed up and printed copies of La France, and stole blank ID cards to be distributed to anyone attempting toescape France. She travelled across France, picking up and droppingoff intelligence destined for the British and Americans. She alwaysfearless in the face of immense pressure, until one day, she wasbetrayed and arrested.

Andres story is told in English, by her own daughter, based on herdiaries and conversations over the years, Francelle brings hermothers story to life. Andre has been lauded by the FrenchGovernment for her bravery, being awarded three medals for heractions, the Croix de Guerre, the Lgion dHonneur and the Mdaillede la Rsistance.Fulham resident, Francelle Bradford White says she remembersgrowing up among friends who had lost grandparents during theSecond World War in Poland, Hungary and France. Many of herschoolmates parents had lived in Nazi-occupied Europe.

After attending the book launch in Fulham, Greg said: I very muchenjoyed hearing of Andres story. Its wonderful to hear such storiesof bravery. Im pleased to support local authors and the very goodcause that Francelle Bradford White is donating the royalties to fight

Alzheimer's disease and dementia.Francelle decided to write this book as part of her efforts to raise

money for research into Alzheimer's disease and any other form ofdementia. All royalties and any net profits the made from sales of thebook will go directly to the charity. Francelle hopes that, if Andreknew about this book, she would approve of her daughter using herremarkable life as a platform to raise awareness of a very crueldisease.

More real jobs means a brighter future for

families in Chelsea and Fulham, says Greg

Hands MPGreg Hands has welcomed the latest official employment figureswhich show that 693 fewer people in Chelsea and Fulham are relyingon Jobseekers Allowance since 2010, a 36% drop since the GeneralElection.More people are getting off benefits and into work across London, with404,000 more people in work since the last election.

Greg Hands MP said: It is excellent news that since 2010 there are693 fewer people relying on Jobseekers Allowance in Chelsea andFulham. That means many more local people and their families nowhave a better and brighter future ahead of them.

As part of the Conservatives long-term economic plan, weve beenbacking businesses to create more jobs. Its clear that you are betteroff, and more likely to be in work, under a Conservative Government. These figures show that our plan is working. We need to stick to it.Its the only way to keep the economy growing, and keep businessescreating jobs, and so more families in Chelsea and Fulham get thesecurity of a job and regular pay packet.

Royal Borough scoops awards at London in

Bloom ceremonyThe Royal Boroughs green credentials were well and truly recognisedby London in Bloom when the Council won a bunch of awards in thisyears competition.Kensington and Chelsea, which is one of Londons most denselypopulated boroughs, won the In Bloom award for biodiversity, gold inthe City Category while seven parks received gold awards and twoearned silver gilt awards.Little Wormwood Scrubs won gold and the prestigious Large Park ofthe Year AwardThe St Quintin Avenue Community Kitchen Garden was named

Allotment Award runner up not bad for a garden created just fiveyears ago on a disused tennis court.Eleven of the boroughs community gardens received an Its YourNeighbourhood Award, the most of any London borough. The Churchill Arms, Kensington Church Street, won Best Pub Displayand was runner up in the Floral Display Award. The judges, who toured the borough in July, were particularlyimpressed by the Councils work to enhance and protect biodiversity

by working with partners such as the community group at MeanwhileGardens and gardeners from the impressive wildlife garden at theNatural History Museum.Commenting on the awards Cllr Tim Ahern, the Royal BoroughsCabinet Member for the Environment, said: It is wonderful to see thatthe commitment of our parks team, community gardeners andresidents to develop and enhance our green spaces be rewarded withso many awards.Just five years ago the Council took over the management of LittleWormwood Scrubs. Since then we have worked closely with residentsto improve it and enhance its facilities and now this hard work has

seen it named Large Park of the Year. However, we are not going to rest on our laurels because werealways looking for new areas to green and new ways to enhance theboroughs biodiversity. Our gardeners, residents and parks teams arealways up for the challenge of maintaining our high standards.

    H&F Labour's 400,000 cut for voluntary

    organisations

Labour-run Hammersmith and Fulham Council have approved bigcuts in the grants for voluntary groups in the borough. The funding for 2014/15, which was set by the Conservatives was3,598,709. For 2015/16 Labour will be spending 3,623,423. So thatis a small cash increase but a cut in real terms after allowing forinflation. Let us call it a freeze. But then in 2016/17 Labour plan to cutthe spending to 3,402,438. In 2017/18 they have decided on afurther cut to 3,204,784.Nobody should be surprised that Labours slashing funding tocommunity groups by 400,000 - its what they did last time they ranthe council when Andrew Slaughter was the council leader. What adds insult to injury is that Labours using council resources tomake the false claim that are increasing funding by 400,000.Does the Labour Party seriously imagine that the voluntary sectorwont notice the difference?Greg Hands MP said "I was shocked to learn of Labour's proposedhuge cut in funding to local voluntary organisations and I will be takingthe matter up with Charities Minister, Brooks Newmark, in the comingdays. Local organisations affected should get in touch with me."

"Video is a brilliant way to raise awareness of thisimportant issue and is another weapon in the war on dodgy traderswho prey on the most vulnerable people in our communities. I urgeamateur videographers, media students and others to take up thechallenge and help stop people from falling foul of this type of crime."

The competition comes about in part as a result of more than 170,000incidents of rogue trading every year in Britain. These tips and warning signs for concerned neighbours may behelpful when developing the video:

Poor quality work is visible on the roof, driveway, or other areas

    of the property
