Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples

of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the

Son and of the Holy Spirit, "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the

end of the age." Amen.

Our Morning Prayer:

Dear Lord,

I don't know who or what will cross my path today. But I do know that you are my Rock and my Fortress. You are my shield and my strong tower. Help me to anchor myself to You to-day. Teach me how to stand strong in You and choose only Your way today. Help me walk by Your truth and not my feelings.

Help me to embrace anything that comes my way as an opportunity to see you at work and as an opportunity to point others to you.

Thank you that You love me and nothing can ever take that away from me! Even if I fail to-day and fall short, You whisper Your unconditional love deep into my soul and remind me that Your mercies are new every morning.

That truly amazes me, Lord!

Thank you for meeting with me today. Would you wake me again tomorrow with the same sweet whisper of Your love? I can't wait to meet with You again.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Make your plans to come and join our Easter Fellowship. Age Unlimited will meet on Wednesday, March 9th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel Room. We have a speaker with a topic of interest and complete the morning with a delicious, nutritious lunch. “Kindness” is one of the spiritual gifts that the Holy Spirit produces in each of us. Galatians 5:22. Our special guest, Grant Fairley, will present “Flowers, Feathers & Fur - Easter Traditions”. Our hostesses are planning a special Easter luncheon to conclude the morning. Yvonne Eberle, Penny Bain, Madelon Kidd, Pam Beemer, Dorothy Allan and Carol Middaugh plan, purchase and prepare our special luncheon. To cover the food expenses, we ask for a freewill donation. Men’s Ministry

A SPECIAL “THANK YOU” VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION BRUNCH

On a snowy winter morning, five of the Men’s Ministry school outreach team were treated to a delicious, specially made (in-house) meal at Marlborough school. The students in the class of Mr. N. McCaulay, assisted by Ms. K. Collins, were responsible for the food preparation, welcoming, serving, and hosting with many smiles, laughter and fine background music by Beethoven. Moreover, they were also responsible for clean-up and dishwashing. The students who are involved in this relatively new program (it started in the fall 2015) are in a class range from Grade 2 through Grade 8. The younger children start by learning clean-up and dishwashing skills, and gradually develop cooking skills, as well as preparation, presentation, serving and hosting services. The meal consisted of: tossed green/mixed salad with their own homemade dressing, penne al dente with sausage and mixed vegetables; freshly brewed coffee or choice of juice, and warmed, buttered whole wheat buns. There was a good opportunity for conversation with each of the eight students, along with their teacher leaders. In addition, one of the school custodians dropped by for a brief visit, and at the conclusion of the event, we received a warm welcome and thank you from the principal, Mr. R. Brown. Editor Note: Our thanks to Bob Middaugh for his report on this special recognition for the men who faithfully pick up and deliver food items twice each month to Marlborough school. (An alternate team serves Begley school.) Our team included Claude Daniels, Bob Middaugh, Lino Braccio, David McMahon and Fred Whittaker. This was a gracious gesture by Marlborough to these dedicated men representing our Men’s Ministry. Another example of Banwell serving our community. Great job men - thank you!

Saturday, March 26th Breakfast Back by popular demand, Pastor Alex Moir will be our guest speaker at the March breakfast. Great Food - Great Speaker - Great Fellowship. It doesn’t get any better than this. Come and enjoy. JASON MARTIN has joined our Executive, for which we are very pleased. Jason brings a deep commitment to our Lord and our work at Banwell. A very welcome addi-tion.

My Back Pages We call it “small talk”, the casual conversations we have with more than a few people each day. It happens on elevators, in line at Tim Horton’s or the grocery store, at the bus stop, over the back yard fence with neighbours. The term sometimes gets some bad press because the topics never run too deep … so some treat it with disdain. But there are some remarkable opportunities for blessings when we come face to face with other members of the human race. In some folk’s mind small talk means “insignificant talk” … but it needn’t be so. The words we use, even in these brief encounters, can do more good than we think. How about the words we use to introduce these conversations? I hear a lot of “How are ya?” or “What’s new?” … perhaps acceptable queries in and of themselves. But can’t we do better than that? Believe me when I say I’m new at this as well … but I’m beginning to think that, if we’re really interested and we want to make an answer as user friendly as possible, it might be better to give folks a handle to grab. I’ve taken to asking how the current day is going. While it might be difficult and take some thought to determine “how we are”, most of us can immediately assess what today has been like. Further, there may not be much new on a particular day … but its progress (or lack of the same) can be readily determined. We’ve all noticed a tendency for a lot of folks to end a conversation with “take care.” Now, I’m fully aware of the challenging world in which we live and the need to live life carefully. But two issues may make this way of ending a conversation a little less than helpful. First, we can “take care” all we want, but it would be wrong for us to assume that our efforts are all that are necessary. Often the problem is not with us, but the folks who drive, shop and converse around us. Secondly, is a life of being careful what we really want? Is that what Jesus had in mind when he said, “I have come that they might have life, life to the full!” (John 10:10)? I have taken to saying “I hope you have a good week!” (instead of “have a good week”) … or “see you next time”, a piece of farewell language, the truth of which cannot be disputed! An old pastor friend of mine used to talk about what he called “careless conversation” which was how Jim referred to gossip. The scriptures address the dangers of such talk within the Christian gathered community and most of us have experienced the damage first hand. I suppose you can hardly put gossip in the “small talk” category, but this is how it often starts. My old friend was imply-ing that we ought to be more “careful” in our speech. The first Christian pastor James cautions about the use of words, stating that the tongue is “full of deadly poison.” One of my first prayers of the day is one asking our Father to help me speak “thoughtfully” this day. Probably the best example of useful small talk I’ve ever heard comes from the Executive Minister of our Baptist family, Rev. Tim McCoy. It has been his custom through his years of employment with us to use the time by the coffee maker or waiting for a meeting to begin by asking, “how can I re-member you in prayer today?” As the Mamas and the Papas sang many years ago, “it’s something everybody needs.” I can’t remember an occasion when anyone has turned me down, when I’ve asked them if I could pray about the challenge they have just shared with me. Brothers and sisters, this gift of speech can be used in such meaningful ways. Let’s work hard to continue to find ways of making effective small talk. Devotedly your pastor … Alex
