At the end of May, Greenland wel-comed three royal visitors, as the three heirs to the Throne, Victoria of Swe-den, Haakon of Norway and Frederik of Denmark, stayed a week to study the inland ice and learn more about the climate change. Kenneth Skovbjerg Pedersen of Blue Water Sisimiut was having a bit of trouble, as he was supposed to deliver two Blue Water Greenpacks (air con-signments) - important spare parts - to the warship ”Ejnar Mikkelsen” before departure for Disko Bay at 1300 hours with the royal visitors on board. Now we were in deep water because the scheduled flight were not supposed to arrive until 1500 hours.Luckily there was a couple of flexible freight people in Søndre Strømfjord,

A Royal Story from Sisimiut

whom we persuaded to let the two parcels on board the chartered plane, with the royal visitors, even though it was against the rules. Did anyone ever doubt that we were unable to handle the situation!Next problem occurred in Sisimiut, when the parcels, in the chaos caused by the royal visitors’ arrival, ended in the royal luggage before Kenneth arrived to collect them. Fortunately Kenneth got to the port at the very moment the luggage was to be carried on board, and he asked permission to take the two parcels, which he deli-vered to the captain personally - and everybody was happy!May we now - with our Blue Water Greenpack product - call ourselves purveyor to the scandinavian Courts ?

We have made an agreement with Egidijus Petrenas that he takes over all shares in UAB Blue Wa-ter Baltic, situated in Vilnius, Lit-huania, with effect as from 9.7. Egidijus, who has just turned 30, is a competent and experienced freight forwarder and has been the head of the office for the past 3 ½ years. The office will continue with the same staff and the same activities, but under the new name of Baltic Shipping Center UAB. We will still consider Egidijus and his team a close partner of the Blue Water Group and part of the family. We also still expect to

be able to develop interesting ac-tivities together. We hereby wish Egidijus and his team the best of luck with their new status and in the future.

Blue Water Odense has since Sep-tember 2008 been in charge of the transport of the World Team’s gym-nastic apparatuses for their world tour. The World Team consists of 28 of Denmark’s absolute top gymnasts, selected according to a very strict programme. The team is touring every third year, and this time the destinations included South Africa, Japan, Australia, India, USA, Costa Rica, Colombia and Great Britain. 2 sets of apparatuses - each con-sisting of 34 pieces - were forwarded around the world, in all directions, to meet the deadlines of the shows. Mentally, it was in particular im-portant for the gymnasts to know that the familiar apparatuses from Denmark had arrived and were available for them at the different destinations.

Transport for DGI - World Team 2008 / 2009 The tour started in September 2008 at Blue Water’s warehouse in Oden-se, where the first set of apparatuses were delivered in co-operation with gymnasts in high spirits.Blue Water Odense has, as co-ordinator, worked together with many of the Blue Water Group’s airfreight offices and competent agents. It was obvious that all par-ties involved were very interested in the project and we have enjoyed a really good co-operation through and through. The majority of the apparatuses were sent by air, but we have made use of sea freight and road transport as well. The World Team and the group sup-porting them have expressed their full satisfaction. Naturally Blue Water hopes to repeat the success, when the next World Team will be touring the world.

In June, Blue Water Houston was en-trusted with the transport of a land rig from Elk City, Oklahoma to New-foundland in Canada. The rig is of the ”Step-down Telescopic Triple” type and is used for oil and natural gas ex-ploration on land. The Canadian owner of the rig contracted the rig to the Cana-dian oil and gas exploration company who awarded Blue Water the transport. The co-ordination and preparation was in particular important for this move, as it was the first time the rig was trans-ported by sea. The rig was transported in 399 parts, which had a total weight of 761 tons. All parts were trucked to the port of Hou-ston and loaded on to a vessel - an ope-ration which took about 3 days and was closely supervised by Lars Jedermann Jørgensen from Blue Water Houston.

Blue Water Aberdeen has been awarded the transportation of 17 offshore accommodation modules from Ferguson Modular in Aber-deen to Rotterdam. The first mo-dule was moved in the first week of July and Blue Water personnel was

Two weeks later, when the rig ar-rived at Stephenville in Newfound-land, Lars Jedermann Jørgensen was again ready to follow the dischar-ging to make sure everything was going as planned. The port of Stephenville was for-merly used for shipment of paper for a paper mill and is not constructed to handle multipurpose vessels of the size used for this transport. Luckily everything went according to plan, and we won praise for the succes-sful transport, reports Esben Flinker Nørgaard of Blue Water Houston.. The rig has been contracted to the Canadian company for a period of 6-8 months and will then be moved to a new location. Naturally we hope to become involved in the next move as well if it is going to be by sea.

As often before, Blue Water participa-ted in the annual offshore show OTC in Houston in May. 2009 saw the OTC’s 40th anniversary with attendance rea-ching approx. 68,000 despite the global economic recession. This year’s exhibition was the second largest in OTC’s 40-year history, with more than 557,000 sq.ft. of exhibition area filled to capacity by 2,500 compa-nies from 38 countries.Blue Water was part of the Danish pavi-lion which was well visited - especially when we had the traditional morning song and toast !Thomas Bek/Blue Water Esbjerg, Es-

For more than a year, Blue Water has transported crushing machinery for a local client in Azerbaijan - around 1400 cbm per plant. The cargo has been controlled by Blue Water Baku with assistance from Blue Water Georgia and Blue Water Houston. The crushing machinery was bought by a local company in Azerbaijan from different US vendors in both South Dakota, Oregon and Pennsyl-vania.In May, Blue Water also handled the biggest shipment so far, 110 dump trucks, 12 tractors and 14 crushing machines. The goods were picked up at three different areas in the US

and transported to the port of Gal-veston to meet a ro-ro vessel, which sailed the units to Poti in Georgia for on-carriage to Baku in Azerbaijan. In the port of Galveston, Blue Water Houston was represented by Lars Jedermann and a marine surveyor to make sure everything was handled properly. After loading of all the units, the vessel made for Misurata, Libya and Beirut, Lebanon until reaching Poti, Georgia in early June.In Poti, Blue Water Georgia took over the on-carriage and delivery to the final destination in Baku.

A good start of year 2009! Blue Water Singapore received a hot-shot airfreight inquiry from Kep-pel Fels in Singapore for airfreight of 17 units of sheaves - weighing 155 tons in total - from Norway to Singapore.

Blue Water was awarded the trans-portation of 130 marine risers from Aker Solutions in Port Klang, Ma-laysia. The risers were to be delivered alongside the semi-submersible rig ”Maersk Developer” in Singapore Western Anchorage. Jason Goh/Blue Water Singapore explains that time was of the essence in connection with this operation, which was challenging and difficult due to the weight and dimensions of

Successful Move of 78 ton Pedestal Crane

In May 2009, our project oil & energy department of Blue Wa-ter Shipping Singapore delivered another huge unit of pedestal cra-ne, with the dimensions (L)28m x (W)5.8m x (H)8.40m and weight of 78 tons, from Plimsoll MacGregor Singapore to Jurong Shipyard for installation onto a rig. Road survey was done and due to its road limitation, the pedestal cra-ne was not permitted on the road. Transportation using tug and barge was the only option. For this cargo operation, we had also mobilised one unit of 18-axle multi trailer to transport from Plim-soll MacGregor yard to private wharf vicinity and also mobilised

one unit of 500 tons mobile crane to lift the pedestal crane onto the chartered barge. A marine surveyor was hired to ensure that proper sea fastening was done before the sail-away to Jurong Shipyard. The whole logistic planning inclu-ding safety went smoothly, and the delivery to the shipyard was on time for the installation onto the rig.

In the beginning of May, Blue Water was awarded the contract for transport of approx. 3000 cbm of risers from Port Klang, Malaysia to Willemstad, the Dutch Antilles. As it was an extremely urgent shipment, Blue Water chartered the M/S ”Leda Trader” which has a top speed of up to 22 knots. To assist with the loading, two ste-vedore foremen from Blue Water’s headquarters in Esbjerg arrived to work alongside with personnel from Blue Water Singapore, explains Tho-mas Bek of Blue Water Marine & Energy. After 24 days’ sail, the risers were dis-charged directly from the vessel on to the platform - once again under su-pervision of our competent personnel.

Transport from Port Klang to the Dutch AntillesThe job was performed successfully due to our team of experienced ste-vedore foremen, naval architect and project freight forwarders making use of each other’s competences and ex-periences.

According to UN’s World Econo-mic Situation and Prospects 2009 Report, Azerbaijan will remain the country with the most dyna-mic economy within the CIS. Blue Water has for decades offered transport solutions to the countries around the Caspian Sea. It was, however, not until 1996, with the opening of our first office in Azer-baijan, that we really became one of the leading freight forwarders in the area.We now have our own offices in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan with an experienced staff of 70 people. Our offices offer all kinds of trans-port and logistic services. Blue Water has for 10 years been offering groupage services to seve-ral CIS countries on the basis of our Azerbaijan office. Our local trucks in the UK, Den-mark, Norway and the rest of Europe collect the goods for de-livery to our depots in Holland or Denmark. From here the goods are transported directly to Azerbaijan or Kazakhstan by road. The transports are handled by our experienced staff, who know the specific requirements to customs handling, invoice and packing list.

Blue Water Shipping has since the opening of its first office in Baku been involved in some of the big-gest projects around the Caspian Sea. Due to the geographical location, it is necessary to sail or tug all ma-jor units - typically produced in the Far East - through the Russian river system. A very challenging job due to the size and draught of the 19 locks we will have to pass through the river system. Once again, the world’s biggest fisheries exhibition - SPE / ESE - attracted a large number of visitors. Smyril Blue Water had their own stand - with representatives from Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Ice-land - in the Danish Pavilion under the Danish Exporters’ Association. Furthermore, colleagues from Blue Water in Denmark and France with contact to the fishing industry drop-ped by. Blue Water’s exhibition department was co-ordinator for the main part

SPE / ESE, Brussels 28.-30.4.2009of the Danish exhibitors’ goods - ap-prox. 30 truck loads - and after the exhibition, a large part of the goods were to be forwarded to other ex-hibitions around Europe. It was a huge co-ordination job, which also included delivery of fresh fish every day, and resulted in very long work-ing hours for our on-site exhibition expert, Lasse Reuss/exhibition de-partment, Esbjerg. Everything went without a hitch and we are pleased that all exhibitors were satisfied with our efforts.

Our exhibition department in Es-bjerg has for a number of years en-joyed a very good co-operation with Marel Group with headquarters in Iceland. The company participates in 30 exhibitions around the world on an annual basis. Marel Group primarily manufactures processing machines to the food industry, be it meat, fish or poultry. As Marel Group is very strict about both deadlines and service, the solu-tions we arrive at together are often rather complicated. Most recently we had shipments from 5 different countries for the fisheries exhibi-tion, SPE, in Brussels. Part of the

Co-operation with Marel Groupgoods was for subsidiary companies around the world and another part was reforwarded to an exhibition in Barcelona. From here it was sent on to another exhibition, Eurocarne, in Verona. This particular job, which was performed in co-operation with Blue Water Milan, has been commended and mentioned in the Marel Group’s house magazine. On a worldwide scale, Marel Group employs 4000 people and is an ex-tremely important client for our ex-hibition department.

We had two forwarders in Lillestrøm both before and after the exhibition to

When our good client and friend, Michel Jestin, took over the small football club of Vannes in early 2008, when the team had just come from third to second division in the French football league, nobody would ever have imagined that they would make it all the way to the final in the French ”Coupe de la Ligue” already in April 2009. But they did !Surrounded by his staff - including the former professional football player, Fredric Cado, now partner in Jestin SAS - Michel Jestin had the pleasure to watch his team play-ing in the final against Bordeaux. They had made it all the way to the Stade de France by having beaten first division teams like Auxerre,

On 25.4., Blue Water Fort Lauder-dale participated in the Interna-tional Golden Compass Award Dinner in support of the Seafarer’s House in Port Everglades. It was a fantastic evening with 400 guests, and donee of the year was Stein Kruse, CEO of Holland America Line, reports Rasmus Øllgaard from Florida.

The first official meeting in the newly established Cruise & Ma-rine Logistic Network was held in Esbjerg on 14.7. The network con-sists of specialists within logistics to the cruise and marine industry and the purpose is to form a glo-bal network. The parties involved deal with all kinds of transport to the cruise and marine industry and offer specific logistic solutions including pick and pack and spe-cially designed IT systems with 24-hour track & trace of transport by road, sea and air as well as so-lutions to all domestic, internatio-nal and overseas destinations. In the near future, all marketing material will be available and the website is in the process of being designed. For further information

Blue Water Copenhagen is pleased that the cruise season has brought hectic activity to the office. Blue Water has since the first call in May handled 6 calls/approx. 40 containers in Aarhus and Copen-hagen of m/s ”Rotterdam”, m/s ”Prinsendam” and m/s ”Eurodam” respectively. When the season is over, we have handled around 70 containers distributed on 11 calls. We are in charge of provisioning of food especially ordered by Hol-land America Line from different suppliers in the USA. The food is packed in reefer containers and handled by Blue Water, Fort Lau-derdale before we take over the re-maining part of the transport until everything is delivered directly to the ship. We started the year with meetings with all parties involved in order to secure an optimal standard of ser-vice and a smooth handling. After-wards we have maintained a close dialogue, which has resulted in a trouble-free operation so far, expla-ins Thomas Jeppesen of Blue Water Copenhagen.

Holland America calling at DenmarkWe enjoy a close and excellent co-operation with CMP (Copen-hagen Malmo Port) and the border customs house - in both Aarhus and Copenhagen. In Copenhagen, we use CMP for container trucking to and from the veterinary inspection and delivery at the vessel. In Aar-hus, Cargo Service takes care of container trucking. In addition to containers, we handle more than 400 shipments by cou-rier and air, explains Kasper Niel-sen from our airfreight department. All these orders to the vessel comes from Holland America Line’s worldwide suppliers, and Blue Wa-ter serves as consolidation hub for the entire Scandinavia/the Baltic Sea for spare parts etc. to be deli-vered to the ship in the fastest and safest way. The goods may vary from adver-tising material and personal effects of the seamen to essential marine engine parts. Storage of the goods until ship’s arrival requires a lot of work in connection with customs clearance and extensive follow-up.

Did you know.....that Blue Water has an on-line portal which facilitates statistics and customer notification? Did you know.....that Blue Water is the leading freight forwarder on the South American market centred around Argentina & Chile and of course Brazil?

Rasmus Øllgaard, Zaida Pena, Nanna Juul Andersen and Lasse Petersen from Blue Water’s team in Fort Lauderdale participated in the event.

This spring has again seen a lot of inquiries for import of cars from the USA. Despite the financial crisis, there are still some car en-thusiasts who brave the situation and make their dream come true. US Carteam of Blue Water Co-penhagen has also experienced an increase in inquiries during the last couple of months as the summer has drawn close.

Blue Water has been entrusted with a huge, interesting project ”2880 Gjøa” for our very good client NKT Flexi-bles A/S in Brøndby and Kalundborg.Over the past 4 months, we have ar-ranged transport of approx. 50 full loads from the UK to Blue Water Copenhagen, where the goods - 4,800 cbm Buoyancy Modules - are now stored. The goods consist of buoyancy modules for oil and gas pipes going from the bottom of the sea to connec-tions on an oil rig in the Gjøa field off Bergen on the Norwegian coast.NKT’s client, StatoilHydro, has bought the modules as a package con-sisting of 7 flexible pipes among other things. The first 197 modules have al-ready been delivered at Kalundborg to ”Polar Queen” - an installation vessel, which is going to perform installation of both pipes and modules in the Gjøa field. ”Polar Queen” is expected back at Kalundborg in mid-August, when

Project ”2880 Gjøa”delivery of the remaining 128 modu-les is supposed to take place. In addition, we have arranged 4 spe-cial transports by truck - in co-opera-tion between Blue Water Copenhagen and our project department in Esbjerg - as well as marking of the bolts on the modules, which will be replaced du-ring installation.

In October 2008, our project de-partment in Esbjerg received an inquiry from BK Aalborg for transport of boilers for a big solar energy plant. The plant, which takes up an area of approx. 2000 acres, is placed in the South of Spain close to Sevil-le. The transport project includes shipment of 40 boilers - weighing between 40 and 80 tons - from Aalborg and Shanghai respective-ly - in 5 lots during 2009/2010.The first two transports are com-pleted. The boilers from Aalborg

134 Blue Water runners and an enormous cheering crowd had a wonderful day in Gryden (part of a big park in Esbjerg) on Saturday 14.6. Our best male run-ner on the long distance (9.2 kilometres) was Peter Lauridsen, finishing with a 38.11.0 clocking, and Mette Thomsen was best female with a 42.30.0 clocking.

We have sniffed out the news about a Danish Champion among us. Steen Schou/IT department goes in for the sport of bridge, and in late April he and his team won the fine title, which also included Prince Henrik’s trophy.

As start of the summer party of our Aarhus office, the staff visited the successful exhibition ”Sculptures by the Sea”. A hired guide showed our colleagues the unique sculptu-res along the beautiful Aarhus Bay

We have for safety reasons in-stalled Card Aids/Defibrillators at the Danish offices. We are a lot of people at the offices every day and it is reassuring to know that we are now prepared for emergencies. A number of employees have atten-ded first aid courses, but anybody should be able to use the Card Aid without prior knowledge.

Blue Water’s staff in Sao Paulo have attended a meeting/course at MSC in Santos in order to follow developments within the reefer business. It was the third time MSC offered their clients an update. In addition to practical and technical details, we also got the opportu-nity to see the port of Santos.

Blue Water España was buzzing with excitement at the end of May - not least because they could now chaff their Manchester colleagues. FC Barcelona won the whole lot - the Spanish cup tie, the Spanish League and Champions’ League. There is a splendid view from the office in Via Laitana, where our colleagues watched the team’s tri-umphal procession.

Company Excursion

The annual company excursion arranged by the staff club for the staff (in cluding their partners) of Blue Water Esbjerg, Billund and Herning was held on Saturday 25.4. The day’s programme started at 1200 hours and included lots of physical activities such as team building and not least fun and trickery. The party in the evening, with plenty of food and drink, continued with dancing all night.

Jubilees

Staff RedeploymentMorten Plauborg Sørensen is after a period with Ocean Freight, Pa-ris transferred to Blue Water New York as from 29.5.

Diana Kaa completed her appren-ticeship with Blue Water Aarhus on 31.7., and moved to Blue Water Gothenburg on 1.8.

10 yearsKaren Stein worked as a substitute in our accounts department in Es-bjerg from 18.1 until 1.11.1999, when she was transferred to a permanent job in the UK/Ireland department. Once she was also hi-red out to airfreight on a part-time basis, but is now 100% back in the UK/Ireland department taking good care of the many administrative du-ties as well as claims. On the home front, Karen is an ac-tive wife and mother for her 3 x J: Jørgen, Jakob and Joakim. She also plays in Esbjerg Post Orchestra to-gether with Jørgen and is a treasu-rer in the local scouts association.

Finn B. Jensen will be celebrating his 10th anniversary with Blue Water Padborg on 1.11. Finn is our man on evening duty, trying to keep control of the foreign truck drivers in particular - who come to collect papers - and confused terminal staff trying to locate some fish.Sometimes a little Polish or Rus-sian knowledge would have been an advantage, but Finn manages to keep calm and sort things out so that the drivers can continue their onward transport. Dorthe Liebmann Knudsen served her apprenticeship with Scandina-vian Germent Service in Odense (the present DHL). Dorthe started as assistant in the airfreight de-partment of Blue Water Odense on 1.11.1999, but the job developed and soon Dorthe became an inte-grated part of the daily airfreight operation. She has since acquired the Forwarding School’s diploma degree including both road trans-

port and airfreight as special sub-jects. Furthermore Dorthe has taken refresher courses to keep up her skills within the fields of hazardous goods and airfreight. In 2006, Dor-the took over the secretarial post in the sales department and is today our local SMS expert as well. On the home front, Dorthe is mar-ried to Michael and the family also includes their two sons Kris and Kevin.

20 yearsFrank Junk joined Blue Water Pad-borg on 1.7.1989 - only 17 years old - and started his career under the management of Wolfgang Schubert - specialist in customs formalities. No one doubts that Frank is trained with order and details as important elements in the daily work, which he masters completely. In 1991, Frank was transferred to our road department in Esbjerg. Germany soon became his favou-rite destination and is today his core competence. The Germany and Benelux department moved to Kolding in 1998 and so did Frank. In 2003, he was appointed head of the department which numbers 9 colleagues.Frank is incredibly energetic and always ready to meet the challenge - and is happy to help his colleagues whenever necessary. Frank never makes mistakes - so he says!!! He always has a ready answer and he is a real joker and party freak!! A lot of people wonder how Frank can be married to Sanne - when he is already married to Blue Water. Frank and Sanne live in Kolding and have two daughters Josephine

aged 5 and Sophie aged 3.We hereby thank Frank for his great efforts and congratulate him on the occasion.

Anette Tholstrup Corell/Blue Water Esbjerg will be celebrating her 20th jubilee on 15.10. Anette originally started as a receptionist, but has over the years developed into a bit of an all-rounder and is today part of our sales administration assisting our 3 salesmen, superuser on our sales system and not least instructor on our internal IT products. Anette is a happy girl and great fun and always ready to lend a helping hand. She is a bit of a shopaholic - with a weakness for boots and shoes in particular (she is probably the person in Denmark who has the biggest amount of shoes in her clo-set). Anette lives in Varde with her husband, Lars, and two sons, Peter and Frederik, and the whole family shares a passion for golf. Anette likes to watch a football match at Blue Water Arena - especially when AFG (her native football club) is playing !

Did you know.....that Blue Water has a close co-operation with approx. 40 different container lines? Did you know.....that Blue Water is handling more than 50,000 x 20’ containers worldwide on an annual basis?

Fred Kegge/Blue Water Rotterdam - after 25 years of complaining with a smile about Blue Water, acting as a beer bottle with a swing top of his favourite beer on his head.

Nicolai Wiedeman, who served his first year of apprenticeship with Smyril Blue Water, Padborg and the recent months in Hanstholm, will be transferred to Esbjerg.

Kenneth Ruby Sørensen/agency department, Esbjerg will be trans-ferred to Blue Water Singapore this autumn. Frank Junk on the day of his jubilee.
