In July 2018, Deion and Dylal, with their grandmother Karin, brought their old bikes to be fixed. It made more sense to swapfor newer bikes (kids grow fast)! The boys learned how tomaintain their bikes and we talked bike safety in the city.

There was a great wave of goodness flowingthrough Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg in2018. Through the efforts of our Board of

There have been many groups that havecome to the warehouse to help this year – wewelcome anyone who wants to volunteer. If youhave no prior knowledge, we offer the jobtraining; it’s what we do, every day.The warehouse was a buzz all year long,

receiving donated bikes, fixing bicycles andstripping unusable bikes for parts and scrap.

Fundraising We rely on the generosity of supporters to help

us through each year. Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg is 100%dedicated to the community:• 100% volunteer• 100% of every dollar goes directly to

operations

Our need now is to locate a suitable buildingwhere we can create more permanent roots.

In the past few years we’ve held CapitalCampaign fundraisers to build our nest egg for

when we find that perfect place. We currentlywork in a building that has no heat, no runningwater and is too small for our operations. But itwas a generous offer to use the building whilethe owner seeks a buyer. We could be in limboagain, which is why our search for a permanentbuilding will be a focal point for 2019. With that focus we held a Capital Campaign

fundraiser from November to December 2018. Astep into social media gave us a new way to raisemoney. In November we began using thedonation option through Facebook. This provedto be a viable resource. Then we had ananonymous donor step up to add a dollar-for-dollar matching contribution up to $5,000. Weare proud to say we met that match and thensome. For the campaign period we raised$22,354.The social media donation option has opened

the door to another type of fundraising we didnot expect. We had four individuals createfundraisers with Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg asthe recipient. Some individuals startedfundraisers in honor of their birthdays! Withother donations throughout the year, ourCapital Campaign Fund was $127,585 at theend of 2018.We are still actively searching for that new

home and we will continue to fundraise for thispurpose. Finding a building that serves thecommunity and the volunteers is a priority justbelow getting more safe bicycles out to theresidents. We sincerely thank our donors from2018 for their monetary donations, bicycles andparts donations as well as their donation of timeto help us in our mission to supply safe, reliable, affordable, and environmentally friendlytransportation in the form of bicycles.

bAs a teaching warehouse, Ross Willard, right, is constantlytaking opportunities to teach individuals and groups thebasics of bike repair.

Community service volunteers help to load children’s bicycleson the trailer to take them to York, November 2018.
