o, its not raining men, in case youre wondering whether this was a reference to Geri Halliwells hit disco

pop MTV where we were given a lavish visual treat of her well-toned physique and the male hunks

    surrounding her.

No, not at all. In fact, this was even better.

    This was Showtime!

ever musical variety show from Kechara House that came alive at Securities Commission Auditorium in Kuala

Lumpur on 2007 5 August. Showtime! was the brainchild of members of Kechara House Buddhist Association,

helmed by Ruby Khong as producer, with the wonderful support from Sharon Saw, Paulyne Leong, Ms. Han, Eric

    Choong and Bill Keith.

Kechara House Buddhist Association had been established in Malaysia since year 2000 under the guidance of

spiritual advisor H.E. Tsem Rinpoche of Gaden Monastery, one of six most esteemed monasteries in Tibet.

Showtime! was produced in aid of Kechara House to raise building funds for its new extension in Sunwaymas

Commercial Centre and was fortunate to have sponsors the likes of Sunway University College, The University of

Melbourne and MileStone Production Sdn. Bhd to realize its cause. Other contributors to the show included

partners such as AP Films, Event Works Sdn Bhd, Spiral Integrated Sdn Bhd, Eric Choong Kuala Lumpur, Astro

Malaysia, Bill Keith and all members, friends and supporters of Kechara House.

By 7pm yesterday, reception tables were already set-up outside the hall at the Securities Commission with

Kenny, Jae Jae, Bonita, Wendy and Paulyne helming the table while Paris came later with an American friend to

help. Across the reception area, Kechara Media and Publications (KMP) set up a small table to promote its latest

books and DVDs which included Compassion Conquers All as well as the latest DVD release, Bringing Dharma

to Home a useful step-by-step guide to setting up altars and offerings at home for the uninitiated. Wan Wai

Meng, Loh Seng Piow, David Lai, Joseph Tan, Kelvin Hong and Teh Tee Bon were on duty to make sure the

    titles were noticed!

As guests arrived, old friends rekindled fond moments while new acquaintances were greeted with a warm

welcome from members of Kechara. Ruby was seen frolicking in and out of the hall her petite size belied her

endurance and stamina in high heels! Inside, Sharon was seen busy coordinating timings with the music crew.

The organizing committee was tense all over yet excited it was only minutes away before the show would start!

Finally, the doors to the auditorium were closed. Lights were dimmed and we saw Bill Keith walking on stage

together with Dee Dee (of Jangan Ketawa fame). Both had been long-time pals and after an exchange of tickles,

we had Sharons fabulous aunt, Ong Siew Kee, doing a number on Diamonds are a girls best friend together

with her sons who flew in from Australia.. Immediately after, the crowd was wowed by the charming beauty of

Sharons mother herself. Ong Siew See made an enchanting evening to remember with her performance of

Madonnas Dont Cry For Me, Argentina.

When this was over, local celebrity singer Salamiah Hassan belted out a number titled The Look of Love. A

slight hiccup on technical support did not fetter her determination as she continued to finish off the song with

gusto. This was followed by a very interesting performance by a very young and talented person Dennis Lau on

a violin whose electrifying scores hit an instant love chord with Bill Keith that very night!

Before the guests could recover from their sensory delights, Dia Fadillah walked onto stage and belted smash

tunes one after another with her powerful voice. Eric Choong came up next the famed designers first attempt at

stage singing doing a wonderful ballad of the late Teresa Tengs The Moon Represents My Heart. He was

accompanied by Dennis Lau, who gave a modern twist to the song with his skilful play on the violin. When that

finished, Eric did a short dance number with the thirteen beauty finalists of the Miss Astro Chinese International

Pageant 2007, who were all displaying Erics evening couture wear. A special appearance by Datuk Sharifah

Aini further elevated the energy in the Hall - not many people realized she was not the real Sharifah! The crowd

After the Mandarin ballads, Sharons friend, Ooi Geok Ling popped up stage and sang beautiful renditions of

forgotten classics. This was followed by a dance performance by the IKA Fancy Dolls from the Casinos at

Macau. When they ended, our very own Kechara member and liaison, JP Thong, went on stage together with

Andee Uetz, a music composer from Switzerland whom Dee Dee took a liking to and had the crowd in stitches

with his teases. JP sang a wonderful ballad of Guy Sebastians fame titled Angels Brought Me Here. Their

combination was perfect. JPs rendition of the song was touching and we felt an emotional nostalgia pervading

the space it was sweet and dream-like, almost accappella in nature while Andee picked softly on his guitar

    strings.

chosen songs of An enchanted evening and Sway. His voice was amazing it was almost an Asian version of

Michael Buble trapped within a young Malaysian. Salamiah Hassan came back to perform some hit numbers

followed by Dia Fadillah who captured yet another enchanting moment with the crowd with her rendition of

Whitneys I Will Always Love You. The Fab Girls came next with their mime of some pop dance songs their hip

turns and twists lingered on within the imagination of some long after they had finish!

Finalists of the Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2007 and one from Mars

Finally, the show was coming to an end. The highlight of the evening was a fashion parade showcasing Bills

latest Tibetan inspired series, with Kechara House members doing the catwalk amidst the tune of Lord Setraps

invocation tune! Yes, it was amazing!

(from left to right) Datuk Sharifah Aini , Ooi Geok Ling and James Loong

We had Shin Tan, Margaret Lee, Angel Ooi, Tan Sio Chian, Chin Li, Susan Lim, Annette Chan, May Woo and

Ashley Tan and each one of them was a star in their own way. Bill was having a gay time teasing all of them,

perhaps he knew it was the only chance hed live to do so! (Beware Bill! Hell has no fury as the wrath of a

    woman.)
