    Being a Classroom Helper

It is very satisfying to hear positive feedback from parents about their time volunteering at school in the classroom. This week a parent expressed the enjoyment she had experienced in being in the classroom working with her daughters peer group and seeing what was going on in the classroom.

We are always looking to promote greater parent engagement in learning at school. There are many ways in which parents can assist in classrooms, and all that is required is a Working with Children Check. The application is simple to complete online, is free for volunteers and once the application has been made, most applicants can begin volunteering immediately.

Adults can help out in the classroom in many ways, from listening to students read, to working with small groups of students, or even just being in the classroom to get a sense of what is happening at school. It doesnt matter if your child is in Prep or Year 6: when parents are actively involved in their childs education, the benefits to both parents and children are great. Please see your childs teacher to find out how you can get involved.

  • Dont put you hats away yet! As part of our updated Sunsmart Policy, in line with the recommended practice, our students are

required to wear their school hats until the end of April. Therefore, all students will still need their hats for the first three weeks

    of Term 2.

    Working Together

This term as a school and as a learning community, LPPS will continue to focus on high expectations for all members of our community. High expectations provide the foundations for a positive, engaging and respectful culture that will allow us to focus our energies on teaching and learning in an environment where everyone understands and respects their rights and responsibilities and where everyone feels they belong. On the first day of term this was evident in all classrooms as teachers led students in Circle Time activities to reflect on holiday activities, reinforce behavioural expectations and set short-term goals.

In line with our school wide positive behaviours initiative, students are constantly reminded of what it means to Be a Learner, Be Respectful and Be Safe.

    Respect

It is interesting when children experience conflict amongst others they are often quick to use the term Bullying. A bully is usually someone who targets one child on a daily basis often using the support of what we call Satellites who are other children that stand around and watch or support the bully in action. More often than not what happens in schools is teasing and they are usually one off incidents. We work extremely hard to promote the value of Respect. We do not tolerate children making others feel uncomfortable or

upset. We do not accept children isolating others from play activities and we certainly do not tolerate physical or verbal outbursts. If your child experiences something at school that is cause for concern we encourage you to empower them to tell the teacher. If they do not feel comfortable doing that then we hope that you would contact us and let us know what is happening so that we can support them. We are all individuals, but the message that needs to be shared is very simple:

Everyone should be treated with respect

    Welcome

We would like to offer a warm welcome to a

group of pre service teachers from Monash

University. The Monash students are working

    alongside teachers in classrooms, observing,

interacting and helping out in a multitude of

ways. This is a great opportunity for our school

as the students bring with them, a variety of

    skills and interests.

Lost one cat by the name of Gingi. He is a small domestic short haired ginger and white male cat, 1 year old. Gingi has gone missing from Gembrook Rd opposite Wickhams Rd since Sunday 5th April. He has been desexed and microchipped with tattoos in both ears wearing a dark blue flea collar and light blue collar with the word Spoilt on it. He is an extremely friendly and docile cat who is a dearly loved family pet and very missed. Any information please call Kylie Blackney on 5961 5320 or 0487 008 423.
