I would like to applaud KPC’s participation in marking Earth Day as it has coincidently been launched with a number of considerable environment projects among which the project of recycling waste in the headquarters of the oil sector. This project is in liaison with urgent requirements aimed to make the oil sector complex an environmentally friendly building. Accordingly, KPC represented by Environment Department has stepped appreciable steps in this domain as it has initiated a number of programs to preserve the consumption of electricity and water in the complex besides maintaining periodically the systems and equipments used in the building.Definitely, the step of converting the oil sector complex into an environmentally friendly building will help achieve several strategic issues on the humanitarian and economic levels as the corporation seeks diligently to provide a convenient work atmosphere for personnel; the matter will help improve the quality of their life and performance. In addition, this will help underpin their relations with customers and increase productivity which is ultimate goal we seek to accomplish. Moreover, this will help trim down the expenditures and costs allotted for the building’s operation and maintenance to reach high-level performance.

Earth Day22nd April
Coincidently with Earth Day celebrations
KPC launches a number of substantial environmental projectsKuwait Petroleum Corporation has
launched a number of significant initia-
tives aimed to increase awareness over
the environment cases and provide appro-
priate solutions for the problems which
irk the Kuwaiti environment. Among
these initiatives is the project of recycling
waste inside the oil sector’s complex. The
project, which coincides with the celebra-
tions of Earth Day that falls on April 22
annually, is aimed to achieve some goals
that can be summed up as follows:
Preserving the natural resources.1.
Reducing the amount of waste.2.
Reducing the pressure over waste 3.
landfills.
Encouraging employees to preserve 4.
the environment.
Spreading awareness among the var-5.
ious groups of the society over the
importance of classifying wastes and
separating them as per the nature of
its kind (solid, liquid…etc).
Consequently, Environment Department
at KPC has taken a number of procedures
aimed to fulfill the abovementioned goals
and converting the oil complex into a
friendly building to environment. There-
fore, it launched awareness campaigns
that target the oil sector’s personnel to in-
crease their awareness over environment
and the hazards of waste. In addition, it
distributed modern waste boxes which are
classified as per the kind of waste which
they receive such as paper and plastic and
other items.
In fact, the project of recycling waste in
the oil complex has been launched with
other projects among which the project of
preserving the consumption of water and
electricity. This project has come into ef-
fect by replacing the traditional taps with
auto-taps to preserve the consumption of
water inside the oil complex. This pres-
ervation of consumption reached also en-
ergy which is represented in light which
is of great importance for man’s life.
Accordingly, KPC’s concerned officials
have sought the assistance of new systems
to achieve balance between the needs of
employees from energy and the need of
preserving its consumption. Therefore, it

fixed fluorescent lamps and other modern
equipments to preserve energy consump-
tion inside the oil sector’s complex be-
sides turning off partially the light after
the official working hours inside the oil
complex and depending on systems run
by the solar energy.
The diligent efforts of the corporation did
not stop at the limit of rooting the environ-
ment concepts among the oil sector’s per-
sonnel but it has allotted in collaboration
with its subsidiaries an obvious strategy to
preserve the environment and accomplish-
ing the concept of sustainable development
in every location where it launches any of
its activities whether this location is the
sea or the land. For example, Kuwait Oil
Company, which represents KPC’s arm in
exploration and production, launched the
project of the marine “reserve” which is
located four miles away south Al-Ahmadi
City. This project is aimed to preserve
the Kuwait marine environment particu-
larly the coral reefs. It is also considered
an important marine lab for the scientific
institutions and centers to conduct their
studies and marine researches.
Furthermore, the corporation seeks to in-
crease the green area through establish-
ing gardens and afforesting neighboring
areas near the oil sector’s utilities. For
instance, it launched the Japanese Gar-
den which was established in cooperation
with Japan’s government on one of the lo-
cations which was influenced by the fire
which flared up in oil wells. It also estab-
lished the natural reserve of “Spirit of the
Desert” which represents an environment
lung for the personnel of Burgan oilfield;
in addition, it is a safe shelter for the local
and migrant birds and natural soil for the
desert plants and fungal life. It plays also
significant role in controlling desertifica-
tion. Add to this is Al-Abduliya “reserve”
which has been established on 3 million
square meters to provide appropriate cir-
cumstances and natural life for land plants
and animals.
To reinforce the concepts of social re-
sponsibility, KPC and its subsidiaries
seek diligently and incessantly to partake
in launching environment awareness pro-
grams for the institutions of the civil soci-
ety on top of which universities, applied
education institutes and schools. More-
over, they hold seminars and lectures to
highlight the corporation’s efforts in pre-
serving the environment and developing
manpower in a healthful, administrative
and technical manner.

Ed Morse advises the Middle East to vary its economy to preserve sustainable developmentMedia Relations Department at Ku-
wait Petroleum Corporation organized
a seminar on the international conse-
quences of energy 2020- 2030 on Thurs-
day April 11 in KPC’s auditorium.
The seminar was given by Mr. Ed Morse
Global Head of Commodities Research
at Citigroup in New York City, and Mr.
Christof Rühl, Group Chief Economist
and Vice President of BP.
For his part, Rühl underlined the most
important developments which will
expectedly take place on energy pro-
duction in the coming years using a
scientific study conducted by British
Petroleum (BP) Company on the future
predications for the energy market until
2030, indicating the percentages of oil
production are different in some Arab
and European countries.
Indicating there ostensible differences
between the reserve and current pro-
duction of GCC countries, Iran and Iraq
from the one hand and other countries
all over the world from the other hand,
Rühl clarified that the international
consumption of energy will increase
observably within the coming years. In
addition, the world will witness a hike
in demand on petroleum products such
as gas, coke and shale oil.
Meanwhile, Morse the market of sup-
ply and demand has differed compared
to the previous years; in addition the
future refers to a new oil market in the
European countries far away from the
Middle East region after explor-
ing nearly 100 billion bar-
rels of oil in Texas, which
is considered the second
biggest state in America,
which is bigger than the
reserve of State of Kuwait. Add to this
is the reserve of shale gas in Pennsylva-
nia which is bigger than the natural gas
available in Qatar. Consequently, he ad-
vised the countries of the Middle East
to vary their economy to preserve the
sustainable development far away from
oil only, adding these countries how-
ever will be able to
keep their market-
ing share in the
coming years.

and other important minerals which
are required for the human body.
In the following few lines, we will
shed light on the most common nuts
as follows:
Pistachio: It is rich with a dioxide substance known as “Lutein”. It helps
enrich teeth and gingival. However, it is not preferable to eat much quanti-
ties of pistachio especially when the stomach is empty.
Hazelnut: It is full of multiple sated fats which protect the arterial wall. It
is rich with vitamin E, zinc, sulfur and iron. Doctors advise eating it while
feeling fatigue.
Almond: It includes big quantities of useful minerals such as phosphor.
It is full of non-sated fats which help calm down nerves and activate the
brain. It reduces the hazards of heart attacks, the percentage of harmful
cholesterol in blood. It is useful in treating some of diseases of the respira-
tory system such as asthma and chronic cough.
