Awarded at competitive tender, Carmelcrest undertook major refurbishment works to Cambridge
City Council’s prestigious Newmarket Road Cemetery; creating a new waiting room and information
area.
The works also included repairs and refurbishment to the chapel and upgrade works to public toilets.
The scope of works included the listed building restoration repairs and construction of brick walls,
gates and railings. Structural works included new internal and external finishes to the existing build-
ing.
The cemetery was occupied, so due to the sensitive nature of the works, members of the project
team were provided with Vulnerable Persons Training, prior to commencement on site. As a conse-
quence, they understood the importance of minimising disruption to the public and users of the
cemetery.
Following completion of the works, the Cemetery was officially opened by Mr Paul Saunders, the
current Mayor of Cambridge in July 2013 (pictured above).
As a result of our high quality performance on this contract, Carmelcrest were awarded a
‘Certificate of Achievement’ (pictured above) by the Considerate Contractor Scheme (CCS).
