Aruba was great, but it is time to get back to Rotary and work. Or is it work and Rotary? Tuesday, I visited the Rotary Club of Natick as my governor visit. The last time I was with them was their installation in June. Next year I will visit the club and watch Governor Elect Mike Ellis do the president’s installation as each year the leadership changes. Mike is getting ready for a great year. For those who don’t know, there is a lot of preparation during the E year both training and planning.Tuesday night I waitressed at the Athol/Orange Celebrity fundraiser. The meal was wonderful, serving appetizers, salad, soup, mashed potato, green beans, and prime rib. Mark Ellis did a great job as auctioneer. There should be some great pictures in next week’s newsletter. Wednesday I visited my home club, Acton-Boxborough. It was great to be home and see everybody. As much as I enjoy seeing all the clubs in my capacity as district governor, I miss my friends and club members. Rotary is a lot about friendship. My club members are working hard on a new project, a wine tasting. In the afternoon, I visited the Webster-Dudley club. The club is growing. They honored an Eagle Scout at their meeting as we got to hear of this young man’s project of sending items to the soldiers overseas. On Thursday morning I was pleasantly surprised with an overflowing room of Rotarians in Tyngsboro and in the after- noon I visited Tewksbury. They had two young scholars visiting them in a “Hats Off” program they do monthly. Thursday night, there was a Public Relations meet- ing. Jim Fusco lead the meeting as we determined ingredients for the Purple Pinky Day. A press release, recipe, and poster are all on the web site to download. Thanks Peggy Thorsen for a great press release template! Saturday, I joined the district governors elect (Mike Ellis and class) and the district governors nominee (Tom Polito and class) in planning for PETS. The presi- dents elect of District 7910 will be trained in March 2010 by this great group of people. Next Saturday is Purple Pinky Day. District 7910 clubs are getting ready for a great day of collecting funds for the polio eradication effort and making the public aware of this greatest of all Rotarian project. Some will be wearing “END POLIO NOW” t-shirts as walking billboards for this effort. I wish you all well and hope to see many pictures of your event in next week’s newsletter. THE ROTARY FOUNDATION BOARD OF TRUSTEES VOTEDThe Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees voted to establish a 100-point minimum for the transfer of Foundation recognition points, effective 1 July. In April,

The Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees voted to establish a 100-point minimum for the transfer of Foundation recognition points, effective 1 July. "The Trusteeshad consideration for all Rotarians globally who have and use recognition points," says Louis Piconi, vice chairman of the Trustees Fund Development Committee."We are hopeful that the new 100-point minimum will encourage Rotarians to use their points to foster new contributions and further support club and districtleaders in achieving fund development goals."

Recognition points are credits that donors receive for contributions to the Foundation that can be transferred among Rotary accounts. Individuals, clubs, anddistricts can transfer as many points as they have to other individual accounts to increase others' donor recognition amounts, or level of donor recognition. Asof 1 July, points may only be transferred in transactions of 100 points or more, and individual donors will be the only ones authorized to transfer points fromtheir individual accounts. Club presidents and district governors may no longer authorize point transfers for other individuals, but they may continue to author-ize transfers from their club or district accounts.

Also, as of 1 July, individual points will expire upon the death of the donor, or the death of the surviving spouse of a Major Donor. (Major Donors have con-tributed US$10,000 or more to the Foundation.) Donors begin to earn points after they qualify for Paul Harris Fellow Recognition . They accrue one recognitionpoint for each U.S. dollar contributed to the Foundation's Annual Programs Fund, PolioPlus, or approved Matching Grant. Donors receive Paul Harris FellowRecognition once they have contributed $1,000 or have 1,000 points transferred to them, or once the sum of their cash contributions and points equals 1,000.Donors may use their points to help a family member, friend, or other Rotarian achieve Paul Harris Fellow Recognition. Points cannot be transferred to a club ordistrict. Gifts made to the Permanent Fund or Rotary International programs are not eligible for recognition points. To transfer points, fill out the Recognition Transfer Request Form. The form will be updated on 1 July to reflect the changes to the Foundation recognition points

policy.

KOSOVO Gift of LifeEndrit and his mother Behrije Zhushi came to Natick from Kosovo through the efforts of Natick Rotary and Gift of Life New England, Inc., a Rotary organ-ization that helps children in need in the United States and abroad receive open-heart surgery. They returned to Kosovo Thursday. For Endrit, the sur-gery was required to fix holes in the wall dividing the right and left sections of his heart. The Zhushis came to Boston along with another family fromKosovo, The other boy, Beqir Agushi, and his mother are staying with a family in Lynn and was sponsored by the Waltham Rotary Club. He had cardiacsurgery Wednesday. The boys were the first people from Kosovo to come through the Gift of Life New England program. The decision to reach out tofamilies in that area came in part from Kosovo native Dr. Gani Abazi, who is a post-doctoral research fellow in neurosurgery at the Children’s Hospitalin Boston and a former Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar. “Cardiac surgery is not being provided in Kosovo,” Abazi said. “If these children could not getthis surgery somewhere else in the world, they would have died at home.” Abazi said he worked with local doctors to select two children who had thegreatest financial need and whose medical cases would produce the best outcomes. “We are also bringing a vision to Kosovo, that it gets its own med-ical services including cardiac surgery so that thousands of patients there can get treatment back home,” Abazi said. The Ashburnham-WestminsterRotary Club is sponsoring the Town of Westminster's 250th Anniversary Grand Finale Event, Saturday, October 24th from 6pm - 1am at the WachusettVillage Inn in Westminster.
