    From theRectors Desk

    Dear Parishioners,

What a day it was! September 27th will be remembered for a long time

by those who attended the official opening of the Parish Centre on

Church Lane, Newcastle. Nobody had an idea how many would turn upfor the occasion, we guessed there could be anywhere between 100 and200 people. Preparations were made by the catering committee to

provide food and seating for 200 people but on the day it is reckoned thatat least 250 were fed. Members of this committee did a splendid job and

heir faith was richly rewarded because, as the people poured in, so didhe food. Every possible surface in the kitchen was piled high with

food. When all were fed it seemed that there was enough left over to fill12 baskets!

As people entered the main hall 'wow' was the common expressionexpressed! Places at tables soon filled and all available chairs were

quickly occupied before Mr Pat Carey, following some complimentarywords, cut the ribbon declaring the centre officially open. Mr Mervyn

Garrett then spoke on behalf of the Select Vestry and BuildingCommittee. He outlined the chain of events leading up to this day of

celebration and thanked all those who were links in a long chain makinghe Parish Centre a reality. Mr Peter Johnston presented Mervyn with a

gift from the Parishioners in recognition of his relentless work aschairman of the building committee and Mrs Caroline Tindal presented a

gift to the secretary, Karen, who was the only female member of thecommittee and took charge of all of the correspondence for the business

of the committee, shopping for the Centre and numerous details thatneeded to be attended to. Mr Tom Fortune spoke on behalf of Wicklow

County Council before Archbishop Jackson took the floor. Followingsome words of encouragement and thankful recognition for the vision and

work carried out, the Archbishop led the assembled in prayer dedicatinghe Parish Centre to God's glory and for use in His service. The official

proceedings concluded with a specially chosen anthem beautifully sungby members of our Church Choir and the singing of the doxology by all

present. Delicious afternoon tea was enjoyed by all and parishioners

The day was a major undertaking and we express sincere thanks to all

who helped make it possible. Names are too numerous to mention but itwas a well organised event and was carried out smoothly with a real

sense of celebration and joy - heartfelt thanks to all concerned!

Now we have a beautiful facility it is our responsibility to use it wisely

and in ways that we feel honour the Gospel. The after-school club isgoing well and numbers are slowly building up. At time of writing theSunday School has had the first class and the parent and tot's group and

able tennis club have had their first experience in the hall. The Time Outgroup will meet there tonight, Tuesday, and bowls will freely roll along

he mats on Thursday. Friday will be the evening of the first harvestsupper in the hall and on Saturday refreshments will be served following

he memorial service for Mr Pat Milligan. That is just the first week!!

PINS is late for the Newcastle Harvest Services but please rememberCalary on Sunday 12th. at 3.30pm. It comes as part of the music festival

We wish Caroline Tindal a speedy recovery from her hip operation which

    God Bless,

    William
