NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 1 2013
Friday 10th May
Principal’s Message
Late newsletter this fortnight because I
wanted to give feedback regarding our
Annual Charity Golf Day.
Congratulations to all for another
hugely successful Golf Day last Friday. We had
perfect weather and a strong roll up of teams who
enjoyed the golf, food and some cool beverages.
Massive thank you to Jenny for her wonderful
organisation again, to the Friends Committee for their
ongoing assistance around the day and ‘Paparazzi
Ray’ for his photography of teams and action shots
across the Merewether Golf Club greens. Thanks to
our major sponsor Bentley’s Accountants for their
contribution to the day and to Chris Dumas for his
continued support and again this year, for his ‘not so
silent auction’ highly persuasive auctioneering skills.
Other major sponsors were Harvest Homes and
Laser Electrical. The day was a massive success
with the amount raised to be confirmed in the next
newsletter. Thank you to all our corporate sponsors,
players and community businesses that donated a
range of prizes for raffles and team winners as all of
you contributed so much to the day’s success. Your
generosity ensures we can couple these funds with
Orica’s fundraising as we are completing the planning
and implementation of special playground projects
including a Sensory Playground area.
Winning team of the 4 Ball Ambrose event this year
were Antenna Wizards, 2nd place - Bentleys and
3rd place - Laser Electrical. Congratulations to all.
We were very lucky to have some special prizes for
the Silent Auction feature. A signed Melbourne Storm
team jersey was donated by Steve at Marshall
Batteries (won by Mark Smith of Lecky’s); a signed
Swans team jersey by Concrete Evidence via Chris
Dumas (won by John Green of Lecky’s) and Friends
purchased a voucher at Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley
(won by Grant Mead of Lecky’s). Lecky’s entered 6
teams all splendidly dressed in pink flamingo shirts - a
big effort and in the spirit of the day. They were just
pipped for best dressed by Grant Hewlett’s team who
were coordinated on multi
levels of attire.
I have attached photo pages
of Golf Day highlights and
pics have been posted on
Facebook, too.
Sickness
Thank you to our families who are keeping students at
home when they are unwell. There is a particularly
nasty cold / flu going around the school and broader
community, as well as change of seasons, flu and
other sicknesses are affecting many of our students
and their families. Staying home gives students a
chance to rest and recover quickly and we thank you
for your thoughtfulness, not only to your own child, but
to their peers and school staff.
Congratulations and Thank You Well done and congratulations
Virginia on 20 years’ Service
with the NSW Department of
Education as a classroom
teacher. It was a pleasure to
present you with your
certificate at our staff meeting
this week.
Kind regards,
Judy Mouthaan
Principal (Relieving)

School Attendance
I would like to remind all parents and carers that it is
compulsory for school aged children to attend school
regularly, each day that the school is opened.
Following an absence parents should provide the school
with a verbal or written explanation for the absence
within seven days. This explanation can now be
provided through our Skoolbag app or via email.
The following link will lead you to the “Compulsory
School Attendance - Information for parents brochure
prepared by the Department of Education.
https://detwww.det.nsw.edu.au/inprincipal/assets/commo
n_media/20120525/AttendanceInfoParents.pdf
Should you not have access to the internet, please
request a printed copy from your class teacher or the
school office staff.
Transition - incoming and exiting
students
We have held our Transition information sharing
meetings at Middle School for our incoming cohort and
Senior School for our exiting Year 8 students. These
meetings were valuable sharing to get to know the new
students for each site as we plan for the next stage of
the educational journey at Newcastle School.
Transition visits are underway and Year 8 students have
been meeting friends / new peers and enjoyed
participating in Zumba at Senior School. Our Junior
incoming students will begin their visits today and thanks
to Lenore for her organisation and careful planning
around this program.
School Banking Day Reminder
Don’t forget that Wednesday is School Banking day and
students should bring in their weekly deposit.
For every deposit made at school, no matter how big or
small, students will receive a silver
Dollarmites token. Once students have
individually collected 10 tokens they
can redeem them for an exclusive
School Banking reward item in
recognition of their regular savings
habits.
Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at
Newcastle Middle School.
