Newbold & Tredington C of E Primary School and Day Nursery Creating a chance to SHINE every day Number 4 - 3rd December 2021 ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Dear Newbold and Tredington families, We can hardly believe that this is the last newsletter of 2021! With just two weeks to go, we still have lots to fit into the school day including our Christmas meal and jumper day on Monday 14th December which is a link day so all children, including nursery, will be at Tredington all day. The school’s Christmas card post box will open on Monday 6th December for children to post their Christmas cards. Cards will be delivered to the children before the end of term. As you may have seen in an email sent on Monday 29th November, Ruby Class and Nursery will no longer be performing at the church. Their performance will be uploaded to the Facebook page in the last week of term. The carol concert planned by the School Council has also been cancelled. Due to an increase in positive cases in the local area, a new variant being detected and the fact that we have a sickness bug and chicken pox making their way round the children, we feel this is the safest option. As the weather is getting colder, you may wish to send your child in with a school uniform coloured gilet or fleece to wear in the classroom as we are still required to keep windows open for ventilation. This is a message shared from the Shipston Medical centre Facebook page (uploaded on 25th November): We are seeing a sharp rise in positive Covid cases over the past week – many after a negative lateral flow test. Part of the reason for this spike is people being falsely reassured by a negative lateral flow test and therefore not isolating. We would like to stress the importance of the national advice that if you have symptoms then DO NOT use a lateral flow test as they are not reliable and give approximately 40% false negative rates. You should arrange a PCR test via GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and self isolate until you have a negative result. Covid usually causes mild cold-like symptoms especially in the vaccinated and children but the impact to businesses and healthcare due to staff absences is huge, especially with the increased demand on health services. Let’s get on top of this local rise in cases together and, if you have symptoms, protect others by isolating and arranging a PCR test. Thank you for your continued support to keep everyone safe by looking out for symptoms, testing and keeping us informed with the results. Hopefully, this vigilance will allow us all to enjoy a merry Christmas and a smooth start to the new term on Wednesday 5th January. Since September, the children in Sapphire, Emerald and Amber classes have been taking a 'walk through the Old Testament.’ Through learning actions, hearing stories and doing fun activities, the children have learnt an incredible amount. Well done!

The children wore non-uniform for Children in Need and, thanks to your generous donations, we raised over £150. Thank you!
