Third Sunday of AdventDecember 18, 2018

Our week begins with “Gaudete Sunday.” Gaudete means “rejoice” in Latin.  It

comes from the first word of the Entrance antiphon on Sunday.  The spirit of joy that begins this week comes from the words of Paul, “The Lord is near.”

This joyful spirit is marked by the third candle of our Advent wreath, which is rose colored, and the rose-

colored vestments often used at the Eucharist.

From “Reflections on Advent”

One Last TimeOur Advent series on the infancy of Jesus will come to an end this Wednesday. Those who are attending the series agree that the DVD on the infancy of the Messiah, Jalna Jones' presentation, and the faith sharing that's included, have really helped to make the Advent season a blessed one. Please join us this Wednesday after the 6:00 Mass when we gather in Marist Hall for a light meal and shared time together. You will learn much about the infancy of our Lord and Savior.

Fellowship Thrives"This is great. It's so nice to see so many people in the parish getting together." That was one of the comments made by a parish member who was at the recent Christmas party. Indeed, it was great to see so many people enjoying each others company and taking in all the festivities. Let's thank our Fellowship Ministry who worked so hard to make it all possible. Our Fellowship Ministry will be offering more occasions for sharing time together as a parish. If you would like to be part of the ministry, please contact Bro. Roy.

Catholic Charity Collection on ChristmasIf one suffers in poverty, we all suffer. Throughout the Mountain State, Catholic Charities West Virginia (CCWVa) provides vital assistance to the forgotten elderly, the hungry children and the people struggling paycheck to paycheck. Annual contributions to the second collection on Christmas directly impact the amount of assistance and quality of service CCWVa provides in our service region of which your parish is a part.

Our New Outdoor Manger SceneWhat a great gift Sheila and Scotty McCartney have given to our parish of Holy Rosary. The beautiful Nativity scene graces the front of our church and

proudly proclaims our Christian faith and hope in Jesus our God become Man and living with us.Thank you, Scotty, Sheila and family. We are deeply grateful for your gift.

Thank You, Angels!Members of our Christian Concern Ministry recently drove to Kermit to deliver our church's Angel Tree gifts to the people there. I wish you could have seen their faces. They reflected the spirit of Christmas joy. Sister Therese Carew, director of Christian Help, was so appreciative and wanted all of us at Holy Rosary to know that she sends heartfelt thanks for touching hearts of many. Our Christian Concerns Ministry thanks you, too, for making this Christmas so special for so many. You truly are angels!

Decorating the Church for ChristmasWe will decorate the church for Christmas after the 9 am liturgy on Sunday, December 23th, so please consider staying an extra hour to help us. Many hands make light work, and if we have several

people, it should only take a little while. All are welcome.

Mass Intentions for 2019 Do you have a specific mass intention for next year? Would you like to have a mass offered for a loved one or a deceased member of your family? Please drop your intentions (plus your $5 donation) in an envelope or give it to Father Joe. Specific dates may go quickly, so act now. Please note that Cannon Law requires a parish to offer one mass each weekend for the intentions of its parishioners.
