Dear Jefferson Award Recipients, Congratulations on all you have achieved and the lives you have touched. We are here to recognize your impact in communities across our country, and we are delighted to present you with America’s gold seal of public service.

You now stand alongside our National Honorees and the 60,000 change makers who have been honored through our Media Partner network, reaching 78 million homes. The Jefferson Awards Foundation believes that celebration is inspiration — and it’s your stories that move others to act in their own communities. That’s why we are thrilled to honor you and share your stories, and why we are determined to give young people who are inspired to make a difference the tools they need. Our Students In Action program is active in over 400 high schools across the country, empowering students to think big, choose their own public service passion, engage their communities, and create maximum impact. To date, Students In Action has trained over 16,000 teenagers who have generated 17,000,000 hours of service. LEAD360 hosted a Big Ideas contest for youth service projects, and tonight we are delighted to announce the 3 winners for 2016 — which will be activated and scaled across the country. Last year’s winners have impacted 9 million lives to date. Our GlobeChangers program provides mentorship and training to young social entrepreneurs — who are on average 14 years old and impact 35,000 lives. These future leaders prove just how much young people can achieve once they receive the support they need. We are also working alongside our Champions, 200 of America’s most influential businesses and innovative non-profits, who are determined to build a culture of service in every community. Each of these programs is designed to build upon your example by giving individuals and communities the tools they need to impact the lives of others. Celebrating you tonight is our way of saying thank you. Congratulations again,

Salesforce, the Customer Success Platform and world’s #1 CRM, empowers companies to connect with their customers in a whole new way. Founded in San Francisco in 1999, the company employs more than 17,000 people worldwide and reported 2015 revenue of $5.37 billion.

At Salesforce, philanthropy is baked into their culture and every new employee actually volunteers during employee new hire orientation. In 2015, Salesforce hit the exciting milestone of 1 million volunteer hours contributed by employees. As part of the 1-1-1 model, every employee has 6 days of paid volunteer time off (VTO) to give back to the nonprofits and causes of their choice. If an employee uses all 6 days, they get a $1,000 grant they can give to their nonprofit of choice.

Salesforce.org is based on a simple idea: leverage Salesforce’s technology, people, and resources to help improve communities around the world. They call this integrated philanthropic approach the 1-1-1 model because it started with a commitment to leverage 1% of Salesforce’s technology, people, and resources to improve said communities. By encouraging and enabling companies to adopt the 1-1-1 model, Salesforce.org is helping to spark a worldwide corporate giving revolution. To date, the 1-1-1 model has resulted in $115 million in grants, 1.3 million volunteer hours, and 28,000 customers.

Cindy Robbins is accepting tonight’s Jefferson Award on behalf of Salesforce. She is the Executive Vice President of Global Employee Success at Salesforce—the World’s Most Innovative Company according to Forbes, and one of Fortune’s Best Companies to Work For five years in a row.

For the first time in our history, the Jefferson Awards Foundation is honoring an entire class of individuals: The Young American Soldier. These patriots have answered their country’s highest calling — serving their country at home and abroad. Our Armed Forces are largely made up of young people — the average age of Active Duty enlisted is 27 years old, and about 85% are under the age of 35. We are proud to honor them for their tremendous impact on the lives of their fellow Americans. They embody service in the sacrifices they make to protect our liberties, and in their enduring commitment to serving others long after they hang up the uniform. The knowledge, skills, and virtues that service members possess make them uniquely capable of bettering lives in communities across our country. Whether providing food and water to those affected by disaster, mentoring at-risk youth, or assisting veterans in need of care, the Young American Soldier serves their country in numerous ways, beyond their contributions in training and on the battlefield. For those reasons, we are honored to celebrate this class of extraordinary individuals.

Cory La Roe is a native of Tampa, Florida, and an active duty United States Airman currently stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. He knows from first-hand experience the sacrifices and challenges that many service members and their families face, and he dedicates each day to making a difference in the lives of his brothers and sisters in uniform. As a regular contributor to the 2015 LEAD360 Activation Project, The Future Isn’t Hungry, Cory was inspired to bring his own Big Idea to all fifty states. His goal is to provide comfort to military families and service members by donating teddy bears and notes of encouragement. He also wants to share blank notes that military families and service members can share with their loved ones. He hopes that these comforting items can help make a meaningful connection between those who are miles apart. He is a recipient of the Meritorious Unit Award and will be featured in an upcoming documentary by One Year Road Trip. In his spare time, Cory enjoys playing paintball, surfing, and hiking.

Grace Wickerson is 17 and lives in Venice, Florida. She is the Founder of Kickin’ Violence, which teaches martial arts, self-defense and the importance of self-control to other students. As part of this program, she has recruited students to become ambassadors for respectful, healthy relationships. They have also filmed PSAs on the effectiveness and impact of martial arts, and raised thousands of dollars for fellow abuse prevention agencies. Her BIG IDEA is to distribute “survivor packs” to those affected by domestic violence. These packs will help survivors get back on their feet and know that someone out there is thinking of them. Each pack will consist of toiletries, clothing, and a handwritten note of encouragement. Grace is a first-degree international black belt in Tae Kwan Do and a second-degree school black belt. She is also the recipient of a Girl Scout Gold Award. She believes that every person has the basic human right to a healthy and violence-free life.

Will Lourcey lives in Fort Worth, Texas and is 13 years old. When he was 7, he saw a man on a street corner carrying a sign that read “Need A Meal.” Will wanted to help.

That’s why he formed FROGS (Friends Reaching Our Goals), which to date has packed more than 200,000 meals for the hungry through the Tarrant Area Food Bank, Feeding America and FROGs Dinner Club, helped pack 60,000 backpacks with food for hungry children through the Backpacks for Kids program, and helped serve over 10,000 families through the Mobile Food Pantry. It’s a kid-run organization whose purpose is to inspire and mobilize youth to make positive change. Their motto: Having Fun While Helping Others. His new BIG IDEA is Score On Hunger – a project connecting points scored in sporting events to $1 pledges or food donations to support hunger initiatives. Every point scored in a game raises a dollar – in any sport, with participants of any age. Fans, players, teams, leagues, schools, parents – everyone can participate and choose which hunger initiatives receive the funding.

He hopes that his story will inspire other youth to “be doers” and show kids everywhere that little kids can make big differences.
