FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets prepared all week for the snow, freezing cold and blustery winds of blizzard-belted Buffalo.

Well, they can leave the gloves, heavy jackets and scarves at home.

After a few bone-chilling practices this week, Rex Ryan brought his team indoors Friday since the NFL moved the Jets' game against the Bills on Sunday to the climate-controlled confines of Detroit's Ford Field on Monday night.

"It's kind of crazy," punter Ryan Quigley said, "that it would be the week that we're playing Buffalo on the road — and we get an indoor game out of it."

The Jets returned from a bye-week break thinking they would have to deal with frigid conditions Sunday after a lake-effect storm dumped about 7 feet of snow on the Buffalo area since Monday. With residents digging out and many still snowed in, the NFL decided Thursday night to move the game to the indoor home of the Lions.

Ryan acknowledged that the league likely wanted to do all it could to keep the game in Buffalo to maintain the Bills' home-field advantage, but the Jets had seen the "unbelievable pictures" of the snow-smacked areas. Some Bills players needed snowmobiles to get them around as the team departed for Detroit on Friday.

"Is there an advantage to us? I'm sure it's going to be an easier venue for us to play in than Buffalo," Ryan said. "Buffalo's a tough place to play, so I'm happy in that regard, but (as) a fan of football, I would have liked to have gone to Buffalo."

With no weather worries in Detroit, that could be a boost for the speedsters on both sides such as New York quarterback Michael Vick, wide receiver Percy Harvin, running back Chris Johnson and Buffalo wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

"We might play a little faster without the snow," Ryan joked.

But for some, the prospect of a quicker-playing field makes little difference to them.

"The surface does not matter," center Nick Mangold said. "I'm slow, and I'm slow."

Added defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, who is from the St. Louis area: "I've been playing in snow for a minute back home. I'm kind of used to it and was looking forward to it. It's football."

The Jets slightly altered their plans from their early week schedule to add a conditioning session to their walkthrough Saturday. The team will travel to Detroit on Sunday and hold their final walkthrough and meetings, as they normally would for a Monday night game.

"It gives us an extra day to get our bodies right and get as fresh as possible," left guard Oday Aboushi said. "If anything, I'd think it's an upgrade not having to deal with the snow or the cold being inside."

It certainly is for the special teams unit, particularly Quigley and kicker Nick Folk, who no longer have to worry about wicked crosswinds whipping at their backs.

"I'm all for having no wind," Quigley said. "No wind, period, is great with me. It's pretty funny because Rex was saying today, 'I know that Nick and Ryan are probably the happiest guys here.' It doesn't change much as far as your preparation, but mentally, not going into Buffalo — one of the toughest places to play as far as elements go — I mean, it definitely takes a little weight off your shoulders.

"Now I can just focus on my technique and I don't have to worry about anything else affecting it. Just go out there and play."

The move to Detroit will serve as a sudden homecoming for Nick Bellore, a backup linebacker and special teams standout who played his college ball at Central Michigan. He's expecting at least 50 friends and family members to show up for the game after his aunt and uncle in the Buffalo area had originally planned to host about 30 relatives there.

"They diverted that mission to Detroit," Bellore said, smiling. "You don't really think too much about the weather for the games, but I would've liked to have played in the snow. I don't know how many other guys would have. But yeah, it'll be nice and warm inside there."

NOTES: S Jaiquawn Jarrett was a full participant after being limited earlier in the week by a calf issue. "Everybody was a full go and everybody's probable for the game," Ryan said. "No excuses. Here we come." ... Richardson on whether the Jets are thinking about payback after losing to the Bills 43-23 last month: "Yeah, you can say that. Yeah, a little somethin' — a little somethin' somethin' for 'em."

Free tickets for Bills-Jets game in Detroit Associated Press November 22, 2014

DETROIT (AP) — Are you ready for some free football at Ford Field?

Fans are being offered free tickets to the NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets on Monday night that was moved to Detroit from snow-plagued western New York.

The game was originally scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, but the league relocated it to the Lions' indoor stadium after a lake-effect storm dumped about 7 feet of snow on the Buffalo area since Monday.

The Lions announced Friday that their season-ticket holders and those for the Bills can use Flash Seats — a digital entry ticketing system — for general admission seats to the game Monday night. Fans who had tickets for the game at Ralph Wilson Stadium and travel to Detroit will be admitted with their original tickets.

The Bills also announced that full refunds will be given to all original ticket holders and season ticket members, whether or not their ticket is used to enter the rescheduled game.

The general public can get tickets beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday via Flash Seats at Detroitlions.com, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Ford Field's box office.

"We are pleased to be hosting the Bills and Jets for their game Monday night," Lions president Tom Lewand said. "While our thoughts are with the people of the Buffalo area during this difficult time, our team at Ford Field will do everything we can to be good hosts to their team this weekend."

The NFL has offered fans free tickets in similar situations in the past, including in December 2010 when the Giants and Vikings were relocated to Ford Field after the roof of Minnesota's Metrodome collapsed after a blizzard. Vikings quarterback Brett Favre's streak of 297 regular-season starts came to an end that night because of shoulder and hand issues

A wildfire in Southern California in 2003 moved a game — also with free admission — between the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers to Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, because Qualcomm Stadium was turned into an evacuation center for displaced residents.

Jets coach Rex Ryan thought the potential of less crowd noise at a neutral-site stadium could help Michael Vick and New York's offense.

"Instead of having 70,000 screaming (Bills) fans, I would say it'd be easier," Ryan said. "I don't know who's going to be at the game." Then, he added: "I hope there are a lot of Jets fans."

Detroit Sports 105.1 radio, an affiliate of ESPN, called for fans to wear green to the game in support of the Jets — and against Bills defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who was fired last December after five seasons in which he went 29-51 as the Lions' coach.

He was carried off the field by the Bills after they beat the Lions in Detroit in October.

Using the hashtag GreenMonday, the station wrote on Twitter: "Monday, we all become Jets fans in Detroit to give Jim Schwartz some payback. Wear green and be loud."

The Lions, in a partnership with Henry Ford Health Systems, will also be operating a 50/50 raffle when gates open, with proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross of Western and Central New York Disaster Relief Fund.

Rex: Jets 'zillion ways' better this time vs Bills (Dennis Waszak) Associated Press November 21, 2014

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Rex Ryan has news for anyone who watched the New York Jets get embarrassed the last time they played the Buffalo Bills.

Forget that 43-23 loss four weeks ago. You can also stop thinking about those six costly turnovers, three each by Geno Smith and Michael Vick.

This Jets team, Ryan insists, is nothing like that one.

"Well, I know we're a better team," Ryan said Thursday. "So, I don't care about if anybody else writes it or uses it."

Ryan firmly believes his 2-8 Jets are a much-improved bunch from that mistake-laden group that came in at 1-6 and was done in early by interceptions by Smith on three consecutive possessions in the opening quarter.

Sure, the Jets are just 1-1 since, but the coach sees lots of things that suggest they're a lot better now as they again prepare for the Bills.

"In a zillion ways," Ryan said. "Almost every way."

Ryan went on to check off a few items: the team's improved communication in the secondary; ball security; good practice habits; the offense and defense being markedly better in the red zone; and more efficient tackling.

"Again, we know what it looked like the last time we played them and we got destroyed by them," Ryan said. "So, we'll see if that's the same team this week."

One big difference is that Vick is making his third straight start instead of coming off the bench. He has played two turnover-free games since mopping up for Smith against the Bills, and provided a clear boost.

"I don't know if it's a spark, but I know that we're playing better," linebacker Calvin Pace said. "It's a credit to him. Obviously, he hadn't played a lot, and when he came in and really got a chance for it to be his show, he's done well. I expect him to keep doing the same."

Right guard Willie Colon said Vick certainly provided "the spark we needed" since he took over as the starter.

"We're starting to jell and we're starting to believe in each other," Colon said. "Not that we ever doubted each other, but I think we realize that we made this bed, we've got to lie in it and we've got to play football and the main goal is to finish this thing strong."

The defense also was solid in its last game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, allowing them just three points on three red-zone possessions and forcing four turnovers after getting just three all season coming in.

New York is also still shuffling its secondary, with the cornerbacks in a competition during the practice week to start, but it has performed better. It was Marcus Williams and Phillip Adams against the Steelers, but Darrin Walls is also going to be in that mix after missing the two previous games with a calf injury.

The Jets have used five combinations of starters at cornerback, including Adams, Walls, Williams, Dee Milliner and Antonio Allen.

"It's been crazy enough and unusual enough for me to, in a weird moment, think about coming out of retirement, because I only have about one play left in me," said defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman, a former NFL defensive back. "But no, it's been different. There are years that you don't have any injuries. There's some that you have more than others and at certain positions. For us, it just happened to be cornerback this year. We've had to adjust defensively and schematically."

Ryan acknowledged it has been a challenge for him and his staff to alter the schemes on defense because of the injuries in the secondary, but also said there's rarely a perfect situation at this level. He compared this situation to one he faced while he was coaching in Baltimore, when the Ravens lost all four of their starting defensive backs one season.

"You've got to find a way to give your guys an opportunity to be successful, and that's the challenge in coaching," Ryan said. "But anybody worth their salt I think would appreciate those types of challenge and you move forward."

And that's exactly what Ryan has tried to do in this lost season. It's what keeps his team motivated, too. Not to mention a chance to make up for a poor performance.

"We got crushed by this team before, but let's see where we're at now," Ryan said. "Let's see how much better we are because we think we're a lot better and we'll need to be. The proof will be in the pudding."

NOTES: S Jaiquawn Jarrett was limited for the second straight day with a calf issue. Every other player was a full participant. ... Ryan on whether he feels for what Bills coach Doug Marrone is going through with his snowbound team in Buffalo: "I'll be honest, Doug's a good guy, but I haven't thought one second about his situation. I mean, that's the truth."

Jets get advantage with change of venue Newsday November 22, 2014

http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/jets-get-advantage-with-change-of-venue-1.9642946

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - With the Jets-Bills game rescheduled for Monday night at Detroit's Ford Field because of the snow in Buffalo, the teams were busy Friday morning adjusting their weekend plans.

It went something like this:

Jets could get grounded by snow in Buffalo

With the snowstorm finally over in Buffalo, the Bills gathered their players, getting some out of snowed-in homes via snowmobile, and flew to Detroit in the afternoon. It was the first time they've been together since Monday.

The Jets? Well, instead of practicing outdoors, they did so indoors. You know, to replicate what it will be like to play in a dome instead of in the cold. They plan to get together here again Sunday for some light conditioning drills.

Yes, you could say the Jets got the better end of this deal. They know it, too.

Weather

Ryan insisted that the football fan inside him would have preferred to play in Buffalo, because who doesn't like watching football being played in the snow?

But the NFL, under pressure from elected officials, determined that wasn't possible, given the challenges produced by 7 feet of snow (the Mid-American Conference canceled the University at Buffalo's home game against Kent State altogether).

"Obviously," Ryan said, "we've seen the unbelievable pictures."

So with the NFL deciding on Thursday to move the game to a neutral site, Ryan and the Jets got the best possible scenario -- a road game indoors without any home-field advantage.

Jets

NFL: Jets-Bills will be played Monday in Detroit

As far as Ryan is concerned, there's no use denying the obvious. Yes, this is better for the Jets. "Instead of having 70,000 screaming fans, I would say it'd be easier," he said.

Although no one expects a sea of green Jets jerseys in the crowd -- "We don't have a strong fan base in Detroit, I don't think," Sheldon Richardson said -- it's also hard to envision many Bills fans showing up. It's anybody's guess how many fans of any team will show up on such short notice.

The Lions announced Friday that tickets for the game will be free to the public.

"I don't know who's going to be at the game," Ryan said.

The playing surface also is more conducive to the Jets' offensive strategy and a quarterback who likes to scramble as much as throw.

But Ryan said for every offensive player who prefers the dome setting, there are defensive guys who feel otherwise.

No doubt the conditions in Buffalo would have slowed down a Bills offense that put on a show in a 43-23 win over the Jets on Oct. 26. Kyle Orton threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns on only 10 completed passes.

Players downplayed the switch, saying their mind-set is just to do what they're told.

"I have no control over that," Nick Mangold said, "so me worrying about it is not going to get anything accomplished."

Added Richardson: "I really don't care. I have been playing in snow for a while back home, so I'm kind of used to it. I was looking forward to it."

Giants are well-aware of Jets' plight (Art Stapelton) The Record November 22, 2014

http://www.northjersey.com/sports/football/giants-are-well-aware-of-jets-plight-1.1139499

EAST RUTHERFORD – The Jets were forced to adjust on the fly to changes this weekend in their travel itinerary, which now includes not just a different time and date for their game against the Bills, but a completely different city.

Having been there before, the Giants had a simple message for their MetLife Stadium co-tenants in reaction to their game being relocated to Detroit from snowed-in Buffalo and shifted to prime time Monday night instead of Sunday afternoon:

The Jets have no idea how easy they have got it.

"Hell," Jason Pierre-Paul told The Record on Friday with a smile and an incredulous shake of his head while recalling the travel saga that unexpectedly re-routed the Giants from Minnesota to Detroit through Kansas City for a 2010 game against the Vikings.

"It was a trip from hell. Never been through anything like that before, but we stuck together, did what we had to do."

He paused before adding with another laugh: "Guess every game that gets snowed out has to be played in Detroit."

The Giants-Vikings game, originally scheduled for the Metrodome in Minneapolis, was moved to Ford Field in Detroit after the dome roof collapsed under heavy snow.

The Giants picked up the result for which they were hoping at the final destination, a 21-3 victory over the Vikings, but the journey is what made it so memorable.

The Giants left North Jersey three hours earlier than scheduled that Saturday in order to beat the storm in Minnesota the following day, but their charter flight ended up being diverted to Kansas City for the night.

They were about an hour away from Minnesota when they learned they were headed to Kansas City because a truck had slid off a runway, causing the closing of Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport.

"A little bit different," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "We were in the air headed for some place, we don’t have a hotel. We get steered to Kansas City, and we were just fortunate to find a hotel.

"And then we still didn’t know when we were gonna play, and then we got the news about the roof falling in [early Sunday morning], and all of that stuff.

"Finally, finally, a decision was made, and the thing that was most impressive about that whole circumstance with the players was, it’s midstream adjust, that’s the phrase we use, and they handled it well.

"They handled it very well and we ended up playing Monday night."

Five current Giants remain from that 2010 team – Pierre-Paul, Eli Manning, Antrel Rolle, Mathias Kiwanuka and Zak DeOssie – although Kiwanuka was on injured reserve and did not make the trip.

The game drew an announced crowd of 45,910 – 30,000 tickets were given away for free — and some fans made the trek to specifically see Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, who was injured and did not play, ending his streak of consecutive starts at 297.

Jets not complaining about playing indoors vs. Bills (Matt Ehalt) The Record November 21, 2014

FLORHAM PARK – When Percy Harvin began his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, Ford Field in Detroit immediately became one of the receiver’s favorite venues in the league.

“Definitely got a fast track,” the Jets receiver said. “For speed guys who like to get down and like fast tracks, it’s definitely one of the best environments. I liked to play there.”

The fast track is one of the reasons why the Jets were fine with the NFL’s decision to move this week’s game from Buffalo – due to the snow – to Ford Field. In particular, the offensive players are excited to play on the fast surface where weather won’t be an issue.

“I think it’s a big challenge for both organizations to get things rescheduled and get it out,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said Friday afternoon. “We’re ready to roll.”

By playing indoors in Detroit, compared to outdoors in the wintery conditions in Buffalo, the Jets will be able to better utilize their skill players Monday night.

Players such as Harvin, quarterback Michael Vick and running back Chris Johnson, who can all utilize their speed to make plays, are better suited for a game in which the elements won’t be a factor.

“We’re just happy to play, I think that’s the big thing,” Ryan said. “I think for a guy like Mike Vick, Chris Johnson, Percy, sure they want the ideal conditions, they would love to have that. I would think that on

one hand your skill players are excited, but on defense they’re like ‘ugh, where’s the snow, where’s the wind?’ There’s half of them that are really happy about it and then half of them that are like ‘ugh’.

Offensive guard Willie Colon added he was glad the game is being played Monday, compared to Tuesday, which had been mentioned. The Jets will have an altered practice week next week due to Thanksgiving and a Monday night game against the Dolphins on Dec. 1, and having to play the Bills on Tuesday would’ve complicated their plans.

“There’s a lot going on for each guy personally," Colon said. "You kind of want to have that time to play Monday, have the week, Miami is a division opponent. You want that time to get the holiday out of the way and have that preparation going into Miami. They’re in the playoff hunt and they are trying to make a playoff push themselves.”

How can out-of-market fans watch Jets-Buffalo Bills on Monday night? (Dom Cosentino) NJ Advanced Media November 21, 2014

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2014/11/how_can_out-of-market_fans_watch_jets-buffalo_bills_on_monday_night.html

FLORHAM PARK -- When the NFL announced that Sunday's Jets-Bills game would be moved to Monday night at Detroit's Ford Field because of #BuffaloSnow, it made a point of noting that the game would only be broadcast on CBS in the Buffalo and New York City markets.

But what if you're a Jets or Bills fan--or just some random person with little else to do on a Monday evening--and you want to watch the game but don't live in either market? Turns out you're in luck!

DIRECTV announced Friday morning that the league has granted permission for its Sunday Ticket package to include Jets-Bills. Which means that if you have Sunday Ticket--a subscription-based service--or if your favorite sports bar has it, you'll be able to catch the game just as you would on any other regularly scheduled Sunday afternoon, no matter where you are.

The NFL and DIRECTV had made similar arrangements in 2010, when the Giants and Vikings were forced to play a Sunday afternoon game scheduled for Minneapolis on the following Monday night in Detroit because the Metrodome roof had collapsed following a snowstorm.

Now, if you're wondering why the league and its broadcast servants partners aren't making the game available nationally like any other Monday night game, Pro Football Talk has the answer:

The league is in an awkward situation because this affects three of its television partners: CBS, ESPN and DirecTV. CBS would surely love to be able to show Jets-Bills to a wider audience than just the two local affiliates, but ESPN would cry foul because that could siphon fans away from the regularly scheduled Saints-Ravens game on ESPN Monday night. DirecTV could also make Jets-Bills available to Sunday Ticket subscribers, but that could also siphon viewers away from Monday Night Football. ESPN would love to be able to show the Jets-Bills game on ESPN2 while Saints-Ravens is on ESPN, but CBS would cry foul because that's taking a game from CBS and giving it to a competitor.

So basically Jets-Bills is Monday night football but not Monday Night Football.

FLORHAM PARK -- The Bills are in the process of heading to Detroit for Monday night's game against the Jets, which was moved from Sunday afternoon in Buffalo because of a brutal snowstorm.

The Bills aim to leave Buffalo on Friday afternoon and practice at 7:15 Friday night at the Lions' facility in Allen Park, Mich., according to ESPN.

The Lions practiced at the facility Friday morning, as they prepare for Sunday's game at the Patriots. The Lions will presumably also need the facility for Saturday's walk-through, before departing for New England.

Beyond Friday's planned schedule, the Bills have not yet released their weekend practice schedule for this game. A driving ban that resulted from the snowstorm prevented them from practicing Wednesday and Thursday. That's why the NFL moved the game not only to Detroit, but from Sunday to Monday, in order to give the Bills fair opportunities to practice before facing the Jets.

The Bills will be able to practice Friday and Saturday, and hold their regular day-before-game walk-through on Sunday. The Lions' facility will be available to them for all of those activities, according to the NFL.

Jets coach Rex Ryan said Thursday that his team planned to hold another Saturday walk-through on Sunday, in the event that the game was moved to Monday. On Friday, the Jets practiced indoors, after being outside all week, as they get ready to play inside at Ford Field on Monday.

Amid Jets' cornerback attrition, coordinator Dennis Thurman says he thought about suiting up (Darryl Slater) NJ Advanced Media November 21, 2014

FLORHAM PARK -- Lost amid the flurry of snow-related news this week (sorry, couldn't resist) is the fact that the Jets will get cornerback Darrin Walls back from a two-game absence due to a calf injury.

Walls last played Oct. 26 against the Bills, whom the Jets will "visit" on Monday night in Detroit, for a game originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon in Buffalo.

Walls got the benefit of last week's bye week, in order to help heal his calf. Still, the Jets' cornerback situation has been a mess for much of this season. In their past two games, the Jets have relied on the likes of Marcus Williams, Josh Thomas and Phillip Adams.

Ten games into the season, Jets defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman on Thursday reflected on just how crazy all this cornerback attrition has been -- from season-ending injuries to Dee Milliner and rookie Dexter McDougle, to Dimitri Patterson getting cut after going AWOL for a preseason game, to Walls' recent injury.

"It's been crazy enough and unusual enough for me to have, at a weird moment, thought about coming out of retirement," Thurman joked. "But I only have maybe one play left in me. But no, it's been different. There are years that you don't have any injuries. There are some that you have more than others at certain

positions. For us, it's just happened to be cornerback this year. We've had to adjust defensively, schematically."

He is talking about playing more zone coverage, and also putting rookie safety Calvin Pryor in a deeper position, to account for cornerback deficiencies. Pryor is better when he plays closer to the line of scrimmage, as the Jets are learning.

It would be amusing to see how much Thurman has left in the tank, at 58 years old. The former NFL cornerback, who coached the Jets' defensive backs before being promoted to coordinator last year, played in the league from 1978-86, and accumulated 36 interceptions, four of which he returned for touchdowns.

Rex Ryan details Jets' final, altered practice plan for Monday night game vs. Buffalo Bills in Detroit (Darryl Slater) NJ Advanced Media November 21, 2014

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2014/11/rex_ryan_details_jets_final_altered_practice_plan_for_monday_game_vs_buffalo_bills_in_detroit.html

FLORHAM PARK -- On Thursday, even before the NFL moved the Jets-Bills game from Sunday afternoon in Buffalo to Monday night in Detroit, Jets coach Rex Ryan and his staff already had a plan in place.

Ryan and his assistants knew the crippling snowstorm that hit the Buffalo, N.Y., area might result in the game's date being moved. So they formulated a contingency practice plan in case this happened. Ryan described this plan Thursday, before the game's location or date were moved.

On Friday, Ryan said he is mostly sticking with the plan he talked about Thursday. The Jets, coming off a bye week, will hold their regular Saturday walk-through. They will hold another walk-through Sunday, as they usually do the day before games.

They will fly to Detroit after the walk-through Sunday. The Jets typically fly to games one day prior.

Ryan added one detail Friday to this altered plan: The Jets, who last played Nov. 9 against the Steelers, will do some conditioning work Saturday, something they don't normally do. Other than that, they will stick with their usual Saturday walk-through routine for Sunday games. They will do another walk-through, without extra conditioning, on Sunday.

The reason behind the extra conditioning Saturday, according to Ryan: "Just to get them going a little bit. I don't want to just sprint them like crazy, where they could be sore or whatever."

Ryan said the Jets' strength and conditioning coaches will come up with some conditioning work Saturday, so the players can "stay sharp that way."

As the 2-8 Jets prepare for their 11th game of the season, Ryan is mindful of not over-working them. That is why he decided to do two walk-through sessions leading into the Monday game, rather than hold another faster-paced practice Saturday. (The Jets held their regular Friday practice on Friday. They worked inside because this game will be held in Detroit's Ford Field.)

"We want to be there fresh and ready to roll, and we will be," Ryan said.

While moving the game to Monday night means a short turnaround for the Bills, who are scheduled to host the Browns next Sunday, the Jets will be on regular rest leading into their Dec. 1 Monday night home game against the Dolphins.

NEW YORK POST

Ryan, Jets OK with facing Bills at neutral site in Detroit (Howie Kussoy) New York Post November 22, 2014

http://nypost.com/2014/11/22/ryan-jets-ok-with-facing-bills-at-neutral-site-in-detroit/

Last month, the usually affable Sheldon Richardson sat at his locker at MetLife Stadium following the Jets’ embarrassing 43-23 loss to the Bills, too upset to speak with the media.

On Friday, he was all smiles, relishing the opportunity for payback.

“You can say that,” Richardson said. “[Got] a little somethin’ somethin’ for ’em.”

Due to more than 5 feet of snow in the Buffalo area, the rematch scheduled for Sunday on the road is now a neutral-site affair in Detroit on Monday night. Though most players said they didn’t care where the game was played, coach Rex Ryan acknowledged the obvious advantage in the Bills losing thousands of fans in what could be a lightly attended game.

“It’s going to be an easier venue to play in than Buffalo. Buffalo’s a tough place to play,” Ryan said. “I’m happy in that regards, but as a fan of football, I would’ve liked to have gone to Buffalo.”

For an inconsistent Jets offense, the greatest benefit could come from playing indoors at Ford Field, where the team’s speedy skill players won’t be bothered by the weather of Western New York, with Chris Johnson calling the move a “big relief.” The Jets practiced indoors on Friday for the first time this week.

“For a guy like Mike Vick, Chris Johnson, Percy [Harvin], sure they want the ideal conditions,” Ryan said. “They would love to have that. So, I would think that on one hand your skill players on offense are excited, but on defense you’re like, ‘Where is the snow? Where is the wind?’ ”

With an extra day of preparation and ideal conditions, cornerback Phillip Adams believes it couldn’t have worked out better for the Jets.

“It’s a perfect situation to me,” Adams said. “They might have half the fans, we might have half the fans. It’s even, so the best team is going to win the game.”

With a driving ban still in effect in the Buffalo area and many of the team’s players, coaches and staff seemingly stranded from reaching Ralph Wilson Stadium — where a bus would then take them to the airport — the Bills deployed snowmobiles to pick up several players on Friday, including tight ends Scott Chandler and Lee Smith, while wide receiver Chris Hogan tweeted that he walked to the stadium.

The Bills were scheduled to practice in Detroit on Friday after canceling practice the previous two days.

The Jets will have a walk-through on Saturday and Sunday, with Ryan adding some conditioning work on Saturday.

The storms that dumped about seven feet of snow in western New York has melted some cold NFL hearts.

A league that has been known to grab every dime within its reach announced on Friday that the Jets-Bills game that was moved to Detroit from Orchard Park, N.Y., will be free to the public.

All seating for the Monday night’s game will be general admission.

The general public can get tickets beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday via Flash Seats at Detroitlions.com, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Ford Field’s box office.

The Lions announced Friday that their season-ticket holders and those for the Bills can use Flash Seats — a digital entry ticketing system — for general admission seats to the game Monday night. Fans who have tickets for the game at Ralph Wilson Stadium and travel to Detroit will be admitted with their original tickets.

“We are pleased to be hosting the Bills and Jets for their game Monday night,” Lions president Tom Lewand said. “While our thoughts are with the people of the Buffalo area during this difficult time, our team at Ford Field will do everything we can to be good hosts to their team this weekend.”

The NFL has offered fans free tickets in similar situations in the past, including in December of 2010 when the Giants and Vikings were relocated to Ford Field after the roof of Minnesota’s Metrodome collapsed following a blizzard. Vikings quarterback Brett Favre’s streak of 297 regular-season starts came to an end that night because of shoulder and hand issues. A wildfire in Southern California in 2003 moved a game — also with free admission — between the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers to Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz., because Qualcomm Stadium was turned into an evacuation center for displaced residents.

The Jets-Bills game will be televised in local markets on CBS. DirecTV announced Friday the game will still be available nationally through its Sunday Ticket package

Proximity and Fairness Nudged Jets-Bills Game to Detroit (Ken Belson) New York Times November 21, 2014

The N.F.L.'s decision to move Sunday’s game between the Bills and the Jets to Monday night at Ford Field in Detroit was based on several factors, including a desire to find a neutral site close enough to Buffalo so that Bills fans could attend, several people with knowledge of pregame preparations in the N.F.L. said.

A storm dumped more than six feet of snow in the Buffalo area this week, prompting the change.

The N.F.L. also needed assurances that stadium operators would be able to find staff — security, concessionaires, parking lot attendants and so on — on short notice. And it needed a stadium with a field that was N.F.L.-ready and that could accommodate television crews.

Based on that, Toronto was unsuitable because the field would have to be converted to N.F.L. dimensions, which are smaller than those used in Canadian football. MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., was ruled out because it would give the Jets an advantage, as more of their fans would likely attend.

That is what happened in 2005, when the Saints played their home opener in Giants Stadium against the Giants. Saints quarterback Aaron Brooks groused about having to travel to New Jersey, and Coach Jim Haslett noted that the Saints used the visitors’ locker room for a supposed home game.

The N.F.L. was faced with a similar situation in 2010. That year, concerns about clearing heavy snow off the roof of the Metrodome in Minneapolis caused the Vikings’ game against the Giants to be postponed a day, and the roof’s subsequent collapse caused the game to be moved to Detroit. When the stadium was still unusable, the Vikings played their next home game against the Bears at the University of Minnesota’s outdoor stadium.

The league also moved a game between the Vikings and the Eagles in Philadelphia to a Tuesday night because of uncertainty about an impending snowstorm. It was the first N.F.L. game played on a Tuesday since 1946.

In some instances, as when the Vikings played at Ford Field several years ago, doors were opened so fans could attend for free. For Monday’s game against the Jets, the Bills have said that season-ticket holders will automatically have their accounts credited for the Jets game next season. They can also request refunds.

Most single-game ticketholders will also receive refunds.

WALLSTREET JOURNAL

The Jets’ Snow Bowl Will Be Played Indoors (Alex Raskin) Wall street Journal) Wall Street Journal November 22, 2014

http://online.wsj.com/articles/the-jets-and-bills-will-play-but-not-in-buffalo-1416535657?tesla=y&mod=WSJ_NY_Sports_LEFTTopStories&mg=reno64-wsj&url=http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10474751865245904227504580289164088994740.html?mod=WSJ_NY_Sports_LEFTTopStories

FLORHAM PARK, N.J.—Thursday was a chilly, but pleasant, fall day at the Jets’ New Jersey practice facility.

Not so 350 miles to the northwest, where Buffalo was inundated with a third straight day of snow showers that had accumulated in some areas to more than six feet, with more snow expected through at least Friday.

With travel bans snarling roads in Buffalo, Bills players trapped in their homes, and no less an authority than Gov. Andrew Cuomo calling the prospect of a football game there on Sunday afternoon “impractical,” the NFL spent much of Thursday working to find an alternate location and, if necessary, an alternate day for the Jets’ game against the Buffalo Bills.

\The matchup, originally scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y., will now be played at Ford Field, the indoor home of the Detroit Lions.

“We greatly appreciate the hospitality of the Detroit Lions in hosting the Bills and this game, which will be televised by CBS in the New York and Buffalo area markets,” the league said.

Even before they knew where and when they would play the 5-5 Bills, coach Rex Ryan and the 2-8 Jets seemed generally unfazed by the situation on Thursday.

“We’d just aim our plane in a different direction,” Ryan said.

Page 15: NEW YORK JETS DAILY CLIPSprod.static.jets.clubs.nfl.com/assets/docs/...The NFL has offered fans free tickets in similar situations in the past, including in December 2010 when the

15 | P a g e

The Bills, on the other hand, have already missed two practices this week. In fact, as Ryan was busy coaching the Jets on the field and in the meeting room on Wednesday, Bills coach Doug Marrone was pushing a stranded car out of the upstate snow.

“I’ll be honest,” Ryan said. “Doug’s a good guy, but I haven’t thought one second about his situation. I mean, that’s the truth.”

But the NFL said Thursday night that the Bills would have the opportunity to practice at the Lions’ facility on Friday and Saturday. The Lions will be in new England to play the Patriots on Sunday afternoon.

Asked if the Bills were at a disadvantage, Jets linebacker Jason Babin said, “You never really know. I’m sure it will be highly debated in the media and by the people. Life isn’t fair, so guess what: This might not be fair, either.”

If it sounds like the Jets lack sympathy for the Bills, that’s because they do. The Bills beat them, 43-23, at MetLife Stadium on Oct. 26, a loss Ryan considers one of the Jets’ two “low points” of the season. (The other was a 31-0 loss in San Diego)

“If there’s an advantage, I hope there is,” Ryan said of facing the Bills, who have lost their last two games since beating the Jets. “I don’t know if that’s the case or not. And not making light of it, I think with the way everybody has their playbooks now on iPads and all that, you’re able to get the information to your players, and I think that’s obviously a good thing. So, you don’t really miss a whole lot that way with the new way things are set up. But, do I think it’s better to have practice time? Clearly.”

That the Bills will get in two practices and a walk-through before Monday’s game is a minor miracle considering the inflexibility of the NFL schedule. NFL games are generally played a week apart from one another, so players have enough time to prepare or recuperate from week to week. The NHL, by contrast, was able to wait until Thursday to postpone Friday’s Rangers-Buffalo Sabres game indefinitely.

‘I’ll be honest. Doug’s a good guy, but I haven’t thought one second about his situation. I mean, that’s the truth.’

But this isn’t the first time the NFL has endured a weather-related crisis. The Giants were the away team in a game at Giants Stadium against the New Orleans Saints following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In 2010, the Giants faced the Minnesota Vikings in Detroit after the Metrodome roof collapsed under the weight of snow in Minneapolis. In part, thanks to that incident, the Jets will play outdoors at TCF Bank Stadium when they face the Vikings Dec. 7 in Minneapolis.

The Jets may have avoided the cold weather and snow this weekend, but with home games against Miami and New England on the schedule in December, Ryan knows the weather will continue to be a factor.

“I think it’s good that you can get out, especially in a colder climate, wind, all that,” he said of Thursday’s practice. “That’s what it’s going to be all about these next six games, so the day was nice, a little chilly.”

As for the Bills, they’ll still have to come home to face Cleveland on Nov. 30 and Green Bay on Dec. 14. According to Babin, who is a student of climate trends because of his own history with cattle ranching, the weather will continue to be cold and wet in the Northeast.

“I grew up looking at the Farmer’s Almanac,” he said. “And according to the Farmer’s Almanac, this year is going to be bad.”

Metro New York November 21, 2014

http://www.metro.us/sports/havoc-ensues-as-weather-thwarts-jets-week-12-prep/zsJnku---AIW6VDvXviiJ6/

Baby it's cold.

While temperatures at kickoff for Sunday's Jets game in Buffalo are expected to be in mid-40s, well-above the freezing mark, the recent record snowfall in upstate New York has wreaked havoc on the Bills practice plans. The team missed two practices already this week and the game has been moved to Monday in Detroit.

The Jets have been preparing for cold conditions including blowing snow and a hard artificial surface in Buffalo. For those like rookie Jace Amaro, a tight end out of Texas Tech, he's seen and played in snow but nothing like he might see in upstate New York. He admits that the biggest factor is the gameday preparation and how to try be as comfortable as possible in the cold, wind and blowing snow from atop the stadium.

“It's the extra gear, honestly. I like to go light, I don't like to wear too much but you have to do what you have to do,” Amaro told Metro.

“I really like to keep my arms clear of cloth so I'll probably just wear a three-quarter long sleeve then some cold gear leggings. Wouldn't normally wear that.

The constriction is the toughest part. It's not as comfortable.”

Some forecasts have the potential for up eight-feet of snow on the ground in Buffalo by the time the weekend rolls around. Then with warmer temperatures on the way, there's the possibility of melting followed by flooding and then refreezing overnight. Sunday's game might not happen on time but the Jets have to practice and prepare as such.

It could be worse, wide receiver Greg Salas said. It could be raining.

“I'd rather it be sunny and nice, perfect conditions but it's not raining. I don't like playing in the rain. Snow isn't as bad but rain, that effects things and the ball gets wet,” Salas said.

“Today was cold but once you get out there and moving, it isn't so bad. Is it sunny and warm? No. But it doesn't distract you when you're practicing.”

Salas, who said he grew up in California and would regularly snowboard growing up, isn't bothered by the idea of the extreme weather in Buffalo. He said despite his familiarity with the cold that he will wear long sleeves and maybe some long tights underneath his uniform.

Some, like Jeremey Kerley “never get used to it.” The wide receiver has worn a cold-weather thermal ski mask the last two practices and sat in the locker room on Thursday with heat warmers on his exposed feet.

“You never get used to it. Nope,” Kerley said. He still had the thermal ski mask on roughly 30 minutes after practice.

His eyes grow wide and he just shakes his head. Cold and Kerley don't mix.

He said on Sunday before the game that he plans to “Vaseline my pours” in an effort to keep the heat in, a process he says will keep him somewhat warm until halftime. He will then reapply more Vaseline at halftime, in addition to using specially designed warmers for his cleats.

The man clearly doesn't like the cold. Not everyone falls into this same category.

Those in the locker room who hail from the northeast are fans of this weather, reminiscent of youth football games and touch football played in the park with friends. Some like starting left guard Oday Aboushi, are looking forward to the bone-chilling weather.

There are drawbacks, Aboushi said, but it's still football weather.

“I love the cold personally but I think for the most part, you're just not as loose, not as fluid. Takes a little extra to get the muscles ready and going,” Aboushi said.

“But I'm all about the cold. Most of us are bigger guys so we're not as affected as the smaller guys. So for us it's great.”

On the other side of the locker room sits Kerley, still with the thermal ski mask on, still with hand warmers placed on his feet. Still shaking from the cold.

Local CBS, NFL Sunday Ticket will carry New York Jets vs Buffalo Bills (Connor Hughes) About Sports November 21, 2014

http://nyjets.about.com/od/News-and-Notes/fl/Local-CBS-NFL-Sunday-Ticket-will-carry-New-York-Jets-vs-Buffalo-Bills.htm

The New York Jets Monday night matchup versus the Buffalo Bills Monday night will be broadcasted locally on CBS in the Buffalo and New York areas, along with Direct TV's NFL Sunday Ticket.

Direct TV released the following statement:

DIRECTV said today Mother Nature won't be a spoilsport for displaced Jets and Bills fans. Due to the snow emergency in Buffalo, Sunday's game has been rescheduled to Monday night and will be available to out-of-market Jets and Bills fans, who subscribe to DIRECTV's NFL SUNDAY TICKET, at 7 p.m. ET on channel 706. Fans living in the NY and Buffalo area will be able to watch the game on their local CBS station.

With a blizzard hitting Upstate New York, dumping nearly eight feet of snow in some areas, the decision was made by NFL and Bills' officials to move the game from its originally scheduled 1 p.m. Sunday start time at Ralph Wilson Stadium, to 7 p.m. Monday night at Ford Field in Detroit.

Four years ago, when snow caused the Metrodome's roof to collapse in Minnesota, the Vikings played a 'home' game against the New York Giants at Ford Field. Tickets to that game were free for any fans that wanted to attend. The NFL has not announced a ticket price for Monday's game.

While the NFL announced near immediately that the game would be carried locally on CBS, news on if Direct TV's 'NFL Sunday Ticket' package would televise the game was not instantly known. In the 2010 meeting between the Giants and Vikings, Direct TV did in fact have the game.

Friday morning, an affiliated Direct TV Twitter announce stated the game would not be televised, just to have another affiliated account say that it would be. When contacted, a Direct TV executive confirmed to About.com Sports that subscribers would in fact be able to watch the game live.

Leger Douzable, Muhammad Wilkerson have fun at New York Jets practice (Connor Hughes)

About Sports November 21, 2014

http://nyjets.about.com/od/News-and-Notes/fl/Leger-Douzable-Muhammad-Wilkerson-have-fun-at-New-York-Jets-practice.htm

Karl Dunbar came to the line and began barking out signals. He scanned the defense, looking left and right.

He then locked eyes with his starting receiver, Leger Douzable, who was matched up one-on-one with Muhammad Wilkerson split wide.

Dunbar dropped back, Douzable put a double move on Wilkerson and separated himself. Dunbar lobbed one deep and hit Douzable perfectly in stride.

Then the ball bounced out of Douzable's hands and Wilkerson began to celebrate.

"I don't know why he was celebrating! He was beat!" Douzable said, laughing. "Man, I routed him up! I just didn't finish. I gotta learn to finish better. I normally don't drop things like that, either. I'm really disappointed in myself."

The play came as part of a defensive line drill during the individual portion of the Jets' Friday practice. Dunbar is no quarterback, he's New York's defensive line coach. Douzable is a defensive lineman and Wilkerson one of the league's best 3-4 defensive ends.

Still, it didn't stop the two from having a little friendly competition.

"Well, he was trying to press me, that's a big no-no," Douzable said. "You can't press me at the line. So, I gave him a little outside fake-jab, gave him that swim and I got the outside. I told (Dunbar) I was gonna hit him with the double move at like the 20 and when I did, (Wilkerson) was done.

"The 'QB' put the ball where it needed to be. I just need to finish that play."

Back when Douzable was a senior at Alonso High School in Tampa, Florida, the coaching staff put the 6-4, 284-pound lineman at tight end for the season. Even then, he wasn't much of an option in the passing game. Douzable said he didn't catch a touchdown all season, his only score came on a pick-six.

But the lack of experience as a receiver hasn't stopped the self-proclaimed "best athlete" on the Jets from begging offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg to get him in the game on offense. Since joining the Jets last season, Douzable has made numerous pleas with the offensive coaches to get him on the field.

"They're letting (Houston Texans defensive end) J.J. Watt go out there and score touchdowns and I feel like I can be that guy for us," Douzable said. "Jump ball, I'm gonna go get it, you know what I'm saying?

"Just throw it up there for me and I got you, man."
